Good Morning Monday 26th December 2022 Boxing Day
(61 Posts)Good morning from a still dark Bristol. I can hear a robin trilling.
Hope you all had as good a day as expected, lots of love surrounding you. ❤️
Lovely day yesterday, with SiL’s family. They also had their Iranian refugee friend and his girlfriend to dinner. It made for a lovely evening.
At the morning service which was at a well publicised 10 am, any parishioners arrived for the regular 1030 service, including the accompanist! Poor SiL performed his vicar’s husband duties by being given a hastily found hymn book with music and told to get on with it, bless him.
Lots of presents. DH was a bit elephant in the room although I constantly speak of him and Philip. Mixed emotions for DD and me.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
Good morning All, I'm up early as I went to bed just after 9pm. Guests had left and most of the tidying up was done and possibly half a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses of Bailey's were stopping my eyelids from staying open
Feel fine this morning and I shall enjoy having a good look at my Christmas presents that were opened yesterday afternoon and then what with chatting , eating and drinking, were not glanced at again. I possibly may never eat again though which is a shame as there is easily enough left over for a couple more Christmas Lunch for 6! The freezers will be receiving some cooked veggies later to-day I think and also some soup will be on the boil. Happy Boxing Day.
Good morning Mick, grandMattie and GN-ers, it’s a damp start here.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Day? Ours was quiet but we had a lovely long video chat with the DGCs, they have spent much of the day Lego building 😀
I hope you all enjoy Boxing Day x
Good morning from a chilly Torbay with sunshine promised, when it wakes up, interspersed with showers. Much like yesterday.
Your day sounds like one of understandably mixed emotions, grandMattie; your tale of the emergency accompanist made us smile! At my church, the two services (9.30 and 10.30) are combined into one at 10.00 a.m. As this means incense will be used, we stayed away as, at the best of times, it can make me cough. I still have the remains of the cough which began as a chest infection six weeks ago.
We had a quiet, relaxed day indoors, with the Christmas meal turning out better than I’d expected. It was a small turkey crown (from Lidl) and was tender and moist. Inevitably, there is plenty left for us to enjoy easy meals for a few days! During the day, I was pleased to make contact with DC and DGC on FaceTime, etc., including DD1 in Australia, where the temperature was 32 deg after a chilly week.
No plans for today apart from a walk, in between the showers. I hope those who are unwell continue to recover, especially Susan56’s DGS.

Morning Mick, morning All from a dark and gloomy corner of Wiltshire
Excellent Christmas day being spoiled by our son and his daughters after a very early excited FaceTime call from our Littlest who is on the mend . An overnight stay in a local hotel will allow an easy visit to the rest of the family on our way home. We’re very fortunate to be able to spend time with them all.
Look after yourselves everyone, I hope this Boxing Day will hold some gentleness for us all.
Good morning Mick and all from the Scottish Borders. It seems mild but the forecast is for snow. maybe I have a fever!
I still have plenty of clearing up to do after yesterday's festive meal. I had tummy ache yesterday.
My DSis and DH are coming to stay tomorrow for a few days and a cousin from NZ will visit so more fun to follow.
My DMiL is moving from her house today. It's to be sold and she will move in with her DS.
The end of an era but she is looking forward to it
Hope everyone has a lovely day.
Happy Boxing Day all! Our day yesterday went well but I went to bed at ten o'clock exhausted! Will go for a walk shortly by myself as rest of household still asleep. No definite plans for the rest of the day. Oh, last night we all played Ex Libris which was good fun. Hope those who are unwell or with sadnesses have a better day
Good morning from the South Downs. Still dark but mild and dry I think. Dog still snoring, so I shall put the Teasmade on in a minute for my early morning tea.
Please to hear that everyone enjoyed yesterday.
Everything still crossed for susan’s grandson.
We had a glorious day yesterday 10 of us for lunch, and our son surpassed himself with his cooking and daughter iL with her table and house decorations. 4 Christmas trees to admire!
Lots of fun, games and laughter.
They are off to Berlin for the New Year tomorrow, but today we traditionally met as a family after Boxing Day walks, cycling etc
So it is everyone here for today. I’m doing a simple meal of cold meats, salad, cheeses, chutney and a mountain of chips.
Fruit sundaes in glass tumblers to follow.
We will have a team quiz - and other games.
So everyone, enjoy your day, keep well and active and win that quiz!!
Good morning and a Happy Boxing Day to you all. Hope your christmas day went well with good company no major arguments and lovely food. i spent the day here on my own, as we had agreed not to try and meet with the weather health etc but did speak to the family on the phone and we hope toget together in probably a fortnight as it will have to be weekend so fingers crossed for that. It felt a bit strange but from a physical point of view was a good job I did not have to go out as was really struggling with a lot of back pain and it took quite a long time to get myself up showered and dressed but anyway made it. So was able to hear some marvellous music on radio 3 all day of course and it included a totally offbeat bit of Tom Lehrer singing about an alternative view of christmas - namely never mind the present how much did it cost etc . Rather matched a lot of what you see around at present.! But it was fun to hear and if you have never heard him he has some very funny offbeat songs . Try the Masochism tango and Poisoning Pigeons in the Park! Anyway apart from that there was of course wonderful Bach Mozart and much other great music and I ended up watching the Kannu- Mason programmes last night . All very good and of course no interruptions , which is one plus for being on your own! Made myself a christmas dinner of roast duck with lots of veg and roast potatoes etc, which all turned out very well and a glass of good red wine. Bit of a struggle standing to cook it but it all tasted very good and not a great deal of washing up, which I left until this morning. It was a very mild slightly rainy day and I was determined to go outside even for a very short time. I had found 3 bags of tulips that I bought in a sale and the weather was so bad and the ground so solid they didnt get planted so I went out and managed to plant them in the little border. Not a soul about, no sound of anyone, but it was a good effort to get it done and it is a pre-new years day resolution to get out every day even if for a very short time and walk if I am able but to look in the garden every day. Still very dark outside so cannot tell what today will be like but no sound of rain and not too cold so far. Still very creaky so wont be doing a marathon today but will probably make a sandwich and some coffee and have a little drive out into the lovely countryside and enjoy that. Not up to doing any great effort here and will be keeping well away from the sales chaos anywhere . Hope you all have a pleasant day and are able to have a rest and do something you fancy doing. All the best
Good morning from a dark, dry and colder than yesterday Colchester. The sun is forecast to put in an appearance.
We had a fun, relaxed day yesterday at DD2s.
Today DH is going to watch DD1 in a Boxing Day run while I prepare food for this afternoon. Just 8 of us for a buffet and family games.
Love to all 🦩 x
Good morning all from Edinburgh, I’ve no idea what the weather is doing.
We had a lovely day yesterday. The morning was spent with DD and family, such fun opening presents with her children, they were so excited and happy with their gifts. We arrived here at DS’s around 2pm and had a quiet, happy afternoon playing with the children who are thankfully feeling much better. Our Christmas meal in the early evening was delicious and we all slept well.
Back to DD’s this afternoon to help them polish off the leftovers.
I hope all the poorly people, including the sick children, have a better day today.
This is the anniversary of my parents’ wedding in 1950.
Happy St Stephen’ s Day.
Good morning all from Glasgow. It’s still dark outside and so very quiet.
DD1 and the girls arrived for a Christmas breakfast French style. Freshly made hot chocolate, croissants and pain au chocolat followed by an exchange of gifts, a FaceTime call with DD2 and SiL in Australia, then headed back home to prepare their Christmas dinner.
We had a very relaxing day and delicious late dinner. I noticed late evening our water pressure was very low and preparing for the worst, I filled various containers with an emergency supply of water, an hour later, we had no water and still none this morning. Should be an interesting day but at least I have enough water to ensure coffee making needs will be met. Phew!
Best wishes to all for a good day and hopefully a better one for those with worries and illness.
Good Morning Mick and everyone from Hull we have a sunny day forecast.
We had the family over yesterday for present opening and later in the afternoon Sister in law and partner and we just had a buffet out. Everyone had gone by 5 so we t
Sorry about that.
We both sat on the sofa watching Christmas telly and eating nibbles and having a glass of wine. Heaven.
Today our friends are hosting so we will see our GC again over at their house. The grandchildren have been delightful and our 4 year old GD is just pure Christmas. She just lights everyone up.
Hoping for more good news about poorly grandchildren. 🤞
My poor boy in China has had a miserable Christmas laid up in bed with covid. He’s having trouble shaking it off. Good job they had nothing really planned.
Enjoy your Boxing Day everyone 🌻🎄
Just to add, that we all forgot about the presents yesterday amidst the fun and laughter, and it wasn’t until we were beginning to think of collecting our stuff and trotting home, someone said “oh the presents”!
😄😄😄
No Matt = Monday.
Good morning everyone from south Manchester. It’s dry and seems slightly chillier than yesterday. Alexa tells me it’s currently 1°C with a forecast of 6°C later.
I love Boxing Day. Always have for years, since our girls were teenagers really. I miss my mum phoning me today as she knew I wasn’t the biggest fan of Christmas Day and would ring and say “well, it’s as far away now as it’s ever going to be!”. It always made me smile.
Today we have no plans until 5pm when we nip over to pick my stepfather up and bring him to our favourite curry house round the corner from here. The Family of Four are meeting us in there and we’ve booked the large circular table.
Happy Days.
Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where there is a colourful sunrise. Everyone is still asleep except me. We had a lovely day yesterday. Opened our presents after breakfast and then DD and SiL produced a delicious Christmas lunch while GS kept me entertained with games on his Nintendo. I was not allowed into the kitchen. At all! DS and DiL are expected sometime today so we will be a bit of a houseful. No Boxing Day walk for me this year. It’s been a strange Christmas for me and I sort of want it all to go away now.
Madeleine45 I love Tom Lehrer!
Hope everyone enjoys Boxing Day in the best day they can.
Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where its 2 °C.
Its great to hear of all the comings and goings and family gatherings.
Berlin is my next favourite place to Rome. The last time we were there they found an unexploded WW2 bomb near our hotel, on the day we were due to leave. Panic reigned, as the route to the airport was closed.
We had the lovliest of days yesterday, but wee Dollie found it all a bit too much and retreated to the conservatory with her beloved papa, I know how she felt.
Our turkey crown was rather larger than expected and will also do for a fair number of Christmass to come.
The butcher's order was obviously mixed up. Streaky bacon missing, but an additional 4lbs of chipolatas!!
I have admitted defeat. 😉 I shall be spending the day in bed, my ill health has got the better of me. Mr MD, has just appeared with an unsolicited cuppa and a menthol inhalation, after I coughed all night.
He is a star. 🥰
Hoping for more positive news from Susan and Baubles.
Enjoy your day, folks.
corner I read your post and misunderstood! I thought you meant the day had been ruined by your son and his daughters. I thought you meant there’d been a family argument and I re-read it a couple of times until it clicked ... that they had spoiled you❗️ Much nicer.
😁
Good morning all from a grey North Leicestershire.
We had a lovely gentle day yesterday - apart from a lively video chat with DD2 and her family.
Today, DH is going to risk his life by sitting next to me while I practice driving. I have not driven since i went into hospital in early September so we are going to find a quiet industrial estate and see how I cope.
Have the best day everyone.
Good Morning and a happy Boxing Day all from Harrogate. No idea what the weather is yet.
You all seem to have had wonderful Christmases. Mine was slightly different. Was at DDs House Christmas Eve for the dinner, which was beautiful, she does such a great job, it’s my relaxing time! After dinner DGD just didn’t seem himself so DD2 took him home ( they should have stayed the night.) we went back yesterday morning and gave DGDher pressies which of course she enjoyed opening.
DGS arrived about. 11 am and opened his pressies. He still wasn’t quite right but he did his best. We then tucked into a feast of leftovers and Christmas cake. DGSs dad arrived to take him home. We came home shortly after to chill out!
Hope you all had the best day possible, and today will be likewise
Good morning !
A very busy but lovely day yesterday. 2 excited little ones who just wanted their older cousin to play with them and their toys. He was happy to oblige.
Everyone did their bit to help with food and clearing up. We managed a game in the evening but today will be our main day for games.
An easy lunch of cold meats, buttery mash potatoes with salads and pickles.
Hope you all have a good day and sending thoughts and hugs to those who may be finding things a bit tough.
Good morning s somerset looks set fair for today so I shall be out for a walk later, I will take in a slope or two, to make the most of it
I did have the most wonderful inclusive relaxing family day yesterday with teengers and adults, had an uplifting beautiful time with good vegan food and much chatting. I was looked after so very well, then I drove home while still light and back home to my nest and my own bed. It was a blissful day with a log fire, a guitar and not a digital item anywhere
The rest of this week will be calm and quiet as normal and I think my house walls are absorbing the lovely vibes
Good morning from still in bed here in Northampton at DS's, no idea what the weather is like as I haven't peered out of the blinds yet. Don't think anyone is about yet, but I may stir myself to go down and make a tea.
Had a strange Christmas Day yesterday, as we had had our turkey on the 24th. Opened presents then had a Swedish brunch, and then DS went off to work in London, having to drive down as there were no trains. Will be the same again today. Those of us left here spent the rest of the day watching tv, reading or just generally lazing around. Younger DGD set to and made brownies with the baking stuff I had got her for Christmas.
More of the same today I expect.....
Wishing all a happy and peaceful Boxing Day.
