XR has annonced that they will not disrupt the public any more in the attempt to get those in charge to listen

. Given that they have got the train workers, nurses, ambulance staff, driving instructors, postmen, Border Force, Old Uncle Tom Cobbley and all, to disrupt our lives for them, I’m not surprised they’re taking a break.
(Or perhaps they are striking from disrupting?)

When people start to be arrested it focuses the mind on finding other ways to get the message across.

Oh. how kind and thoughtful of them! All they have done so far is cause misery and unhappiness, people missing family funerals, hospital appointments and every action leading to an increase in the emissions they claim to wish to stop.

They have no ideas about how their demands can be met and they seem to lack any ideas how they can.

How about everyone on one of their days of action having to get to their destination on foot or bike or other non emitting form of transport. How about their supporters making a big deal of selling their cars, petrol diesel and electric. The embedded emissions in electric cars means thewre is no virtue in them.The only way they can justify their existence is talking the pollution out of city air, obviously a good thing, but at the cost of simply relocating the pollution elsewhere.

Monica I thought that it was Just Stop Oil who caused all the problems recently.
There are so many of different lots of them I can’t keep up.

The argument that EVs are worse for the environment than cars powered by the combustion engine is just twaddle, peddled by people who don't have a grasp of the facts. The embedded emissions argument is nonsense.

Buy an EV.

Their demands are that the government stop granting more Oil and Gas exploration licences. Those demands can be met by...not granting more Oil and Gas exploration licences.

Which means making the best of what we've got and investing in renewables.

If they’re expecting a big turnout around the Houses of Parliament in April, I wonder how that fits in with their claim of no further disruption to the public.

How does everybody travelling to a central point, needing accommodation and food and drink help the environment?

Better if demonstrations were organised in local centres throughout the country if you think demonstrations will change anything.

Volver can you explain why the embedded emissions argument is nonsense please? I’d be really interested to know especially as I’m not even sure what embedded emissions are. I thought the problem was the lithium battery and ensuring we have enough electricity if everyone has one.

Embedded emissions are the emissions that are created while making the vehicle, e.g. in extracting the Lithium for the batteries or manufacturing the steel the car is made from.

We have to make a couple of assumptions first; that we want to continue having personal transport such as cars, and that we will be moving to greener energy sources for electricity in the future. Of course the best thing for the environment is that we don't have any cars at all, but that is not going to be acceptable to people, so we have to find a compromise. Secondly, we could continue with non-green energy but that will add to climate change and basically mean the end of our current lifestyle.

Its also not a zero-sum game; we might need to generate more electricity to power the cars, but we'll need less fossil fuels because electricity can be generated in a better way. Fossil fuels won't go away overnight but our dependence on them will decrease significantly.

So Comparing the environmental impact of EVs with that of combustion engine vehicles over their whole life, means that EVs come out on top every time. Traditional cars might win out on the Lithium thing, but EVs win out on emissions.
