Some of the names that you ladies have chosen quite intrigue me, and I wonder the story behind them. Mine is in remembrance of both my Grandmothers.

Because from my garden in Bolton...I can see Wales...jodrell bank..Mersey estuary etc....

Ashcombe Wed 04-Jan-23 06:43:54

Ashcombe was the name of my house in school and DH oldddudders, sometimes refers to me as his “Ashcombe girlie” as we went to the same school; many years later, we met again via Friends Reunited.

MrsKen33

Because I had a preference for someone at the time.

He’s no longer the object of your affections? shock

Because I have no imagination…. Because I’m a grandma and the other half is a shortening of my name.

My GD visited most weekends when she was a baby, as my go to word when anything (sudden, unexpected or painful) happened wasn’t suitable for a child’s ears. I retrained myself to say oops, when she was a toddler and she fell or knocked herself we would go ‘oops a daisy’ that helped me to remember not to say s**t so often.

Now she’s a teenager if I bang my elbow or knock myself anything I seem to have reverted back to saying s**t.
Naughty Nanny.

It’s where I live. Hiding in plain sight amongst 41,000 residents.

BlueBalou Wed 04-Jan-23 07:21:10

I was Loupylou then a LoupyLou appeared and I asked to change my name.
BlueBalou just came into my head 😊

Eleanor Roosevelt said that women are like teabags, you don’t know how strong they are until they’re in hot water. I was dealing with a lot at the time and it served as a reminder.

FannyCornforth Wed 04-Jan-23 07:56:18

That’s a brilliant one teabag!

Thorntrees Wed 04-Jan-23 08:00:19

Thorntrees was the name of the retirement complex my Mum lived in,it brings her to mind every time I use it.

Sara1954 Wed 04-Jan-23 08:00:55

My middle name, didn’t want to use my first, it’s also the name of one of my great grandmothers.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 04-Jan-23 08:01:13

There is a sort of dance music band I admire called Leftfield. I once had an enjoyable evening chatting to the sound engineer on their first album.

Toetoe Wed 04-Jan-23 08:08:26

I was a podiatrist. One of my lovely clients called me Miss Toetoe when I visited him and his wife

M0nica Wed 04-Jan-23 08:08:51

I had another name but someone sussed me out, so I had to find a new moniker.

monk08 Wed 04-Jan-23 08:20:20

It's a play on my surname.

CallmeEsme Wed 04-Jan-23 08:40:09

Because I’ve always disliked my given name Maureen friends and family called me Mo which I liked better. I would have loved to have pretty name like Esme. I truly hope I haven’t offended any Maureen’s out there if I have I do apologise

aggie Wed 04-Jan-23 08:47:31

When I first joined a forum I had just broken my ankle , but was told it was a sprain , I walked round Edinburgh for a long weekend using a crutch I’d borrowed , got home to a message to go back to A+E , anyway I was in agony , didn’t want to use my given name as it is unique , made up a long name with Aggie in it now shortened
Reading that I’m not sure it makes sense !

LadyGracie Wed 04-Jan-23 08:50:42

After my posh Persian cat, she was the favourite of all the cats I've had.

lemsip Wed 04-Jan-23 09:03:15

JaneJudge Wed 04-Jan-23 09:07:32

henetha

I grew up with lots of hens. They were my friends, until mum wrung their necks.

this has to be the darkest response on here! smile

Maggiemaybe Wed 04-Jan-23 09:15:09

My dear dad used to call me Maggie May, and sing the (very inappropriate!) song. Maggiemay was taken, so I had to extend it a little. smile

kittylester Wed 04-Jan-23 09:17:27

Mine is a childhood nickname (and preferable to my given name) and where I live - sort of.

Nannylovesshopping Wed 04-Jan-23 09:19:06

Because I do😀

Yammy Wed 04-Jan-23 09:22:41

A local word from WW2 that my first GD called me when she couldn't pronounce granny.
