Yes, incredible is the word. Perhaps some of the US GNers will explain it to us, but I know that some of them will find it incredible too, so perhaps not.

I think I would want to know a lot more about the survey and the exact questions asked because I have seen severaal other surveys showing that the majority of Americans, in principle, would like some form of gun control, even if it is only tightened checks before buying guns or limiting the number of shots on a band used in any repeater gun.

The proportion wanting a UK type regime, or anything near it is minute, but the figure of only 22% wanting any gun control, does seem to fly in the face of many other polls

I don't think this is true.

My USA friends w/small handguns despair government not controlling long, automatic scope rifles (military and police guns in private hands).

There are surely problems: Huge population/number to opinions, many more guns than even that large population, wide open spaces with wild animals, 2nd amendment to constitution (protects the right to keep and bear arms, ratified on December 15, 1791) and the NRA.

All with some "John Wayne mentality" in the mix.

I know people who have spent some time over there. Guns abound. A lot of properties own considerably more than 1 gun. And that is in "ordinary" households too.

I think it has been their way of thinking since the American Civil War. Seems to have scarred them to this day.
They are in preparation for the next time they think they need them against, whatever government or type of government that might be.

At least, that is my interpretation.

Hithere It varies from state to state and if it was mandatory tto keep guns in a safe, then there would not be so many people with them on their body, in their cars or at hand at work or anywhere else jusyt in a drawer.

As I said, it came from our national broadcaster who tend to be very conservative in their reporting. That was the reason I was horrified. I have googled but cannot find the survey . It also depends on what they mean by gun control, too. It could be just more background checks or it could be what we did, removing them from almost everyone. I suspect the former which wouldn’t make a lot of difference.

Brother lives in USA and we have a holiday home in a different state. Neither area are under such restrictions.

Carry permits, fingerprint trigger locks, not mandatory gun safes.

To my knowledge not everyone has adopted fingerprint locks.

With a fingerprint lock that 6 yr old child couldn't have shot.
