Only 22% want tighter gun controls in the USA

This I find incredible, especially after yet another mass shooting. This was the figure given out this morning on our national news broadcaster, the ABC,so presumably it was accurate. I know a lot of Americans seem to have a bit of a frontier mentality but really, what are they thinking ?
When the gun laws were tightened up in Australia in 1996 it made a huge difference and it is rare to have mass shooting incidents here now. Don’t they look at other countries ? Perhaps they go with the thought that no one can teach them anything, they are the best and know it all already ?
