Welcome dear Kitcheners. Make yourselves comfortable. There is a tasty, virtually calorie-free buffet ready and waiting.

I’m so glad Mr Soop enjoyed a wee dram! OH has gone off to buy shoes and casual shirts. He will also drop off a dining chair at the tip, which is beyond repair. It was being used as a bedroom chair but it’s now beyond redemption. I think we hung on to it because my late mum upholstered the seat. She was good at sewing but I think I make better cakes! Our gardener is busy pruning the Shropshire Lad. I’ve just taken her out a cup of tea and I hadn’t realised how cold it was. She reckons one more night of frost and then mild again. I took another bag of things to the Charity shop this morning. It included a Jacques Vert black coat which I bought more than 20 years ago, I only wore it for Remembrance and winter funerals. Have a good rest of the day.

Hoping things are ok neine and you’re back with an update soon, take care
Llfl I’m laughing as I presume the Shropshire Lad is some sort of plant? I love gardening but I’m hopeless where names are concerned!
I’m just back from the gym, the pool towel and swimsuit is blowing on the line outside and I’ve got my cuppa so I’m happy. Don’t tell anyone but I’ve also got an empire biscuit too if you know what they are - my DD in Cambridge had never heard of them🙄
Hoping MrSoop is a little bit better today soop and soon on the road to recovery

Hello Kitcheners.I hope Mr Soop continues to improve, of course he has the best nurse.
Naughtynine Hope you have good results take care.💐

We have Number 2 DGS today.Yesterday he fractured his foot playing football. He has a special boot and crutch and feeling quite sorry for himself. He’s so athletic so the next few weeks will be hard for him. He’s been spoilt here today lots of favourite things to eat and playing on his Xbox.He may go back to school tomorrow but lots of stairs to cope with, will be difficult.

It’s a lovely sunny day but cold.Have a nice evening everyone.

It’s a beautiful rose and we’ve got three growing on the back wall.

Good afternoon kitcheners. I have dgs1 lying on the couch, exhausted after a full day playing at nursery. He had a full on crying for earlier because his jaggy toys ( stickle bricks) weren't at my house so I had to divert and pick them up. Has he played with them? Nope. Dgs2,who should be sleeping, is playing with them instead. Three quarters of an hour left and then home time. It's been a good day. Have a good evening Kitcheners

brook2704 Mon 06-Feb-23 16:09:18

Thank you llfl I’ll look it up

Grannmarie Mon 06-Feb-23 16:12:29

Good afternoon, Soop and lovely Kitchen people.

It's cold and overcast here today, I had hoped to get out in the garden to do some tidying up, but I'll wait for a sunny day.
I've been busy changing beds and making lentil soup ( with a ham hough), then chasing up prescriptions...
Everything seems to take me twice as lo g these days, time to sit down with a cup of Redbush tea and GN.smile

I hope MrSoop and MrJaxjacky continue to improve, sounds like they are both being well looked after with plenty TLC.💕💕

YiaYia, your poor wee DGS, what a shame! I'm sure he enjoyed being looked after at yours, he'll not want to go back to school.

Put your feet up, Grandmabatty, you've earned it, glad you're having a good day with the wee boys. DGS2 starts in The Big Boy Room next week at nursery, he turns 3 tomorrow. Time flies, he was born just before lockdown.

Neine, hoping and praying that you get good news soon, I'm impressed at how quickly they called you in.💕🙏

LLFL, I still have my Jaques Vert dress and jacket from DS1's wedding 20 years ago. I suppose it should go to the charity shop, I'll not wear it again ( I am no longer a size 16☹️) but I find it hard to part with outfits which have special memories.

Brook, enjoy your empire biscuit, that's a favourite of mine too!

TOYA

‘Evening All’

We’ve had a busy day. Spent a couple of hours at Wythenshawe hospital out patient department for my stepfather’s ENT follow up appointment. He has been discharged. Yay! They did take bloods too to check his levels. Hopefully all will be fine - results will be sent to his GP.

Jax I know you have nosebleeds and I have sent you a p.m.

Honestly though you don’t half see life in a busy hospital. A female patient from Styal women’s prison was brought in handcuffed to Police. One poor man who was sat with his wife, older than me but younger than my stepfather, was reading a leaflet he’d been given entitled ‘Lung Resection’. A teenage lad with his grandmother was vehemently against having an operation - he came out of the consulting room looking upset and furious. Oh dear. He might go home and mull it over I thought. Grandmother looked flustered.

The ENT doctor was lovely when we got called in. ‘Hi, I’m Emma’ she said with a smile to my stepfather. ‘Goodness, you don’t look 90y!’. He’s marvellous isn’t he? When we walked back to the car I thought how smart he looked in his well polished shoes and family tartan scarf. He stands tall and erect - no slouching. I think he’s pretty wonderful. He is gentle and one of life’s ‘listeners’. No wonder people like him.

Grandmabatty I couldn’t manage what you do without an old fashioned playpen. Does anyone use them anymore? I thought they were a godsend in the past.

cornergran Mon 06-Feb-23 19:26:49

Hope all is well neine. It’s a scary thing. It was wondered if I had cauda equina a couple of years ago, it scared me witless, fortunately the MRI showed another less anxiety making if painful issue

Pleased mr soop is slowly improving. Look after yourself too soop.

We took ourselves off to a marina for a walk in the sunshine this morning. Really enjoyed it. The afternoon has been a mix of worried text messages and phone calls. I’m honoured folk turn to me for support it’s just sometimes I wish they wouldn’t all do it at once.

Development finance meeting to come tomorrow morning, Mr C has a phone consultation from the Heart Institute shortly after lunch which will give us the opportunity to share our ever growing question list. You never know we may get some answers. Other than that nothing on the agenda

Time for feet up and a rest. TOYA.

cornergran Mon 06-Feb-23 19:29:59

Thinking playpens, urms reminded me, we had a big square wooden one. I was often to be found inside accompanied by the iron and ironing board while our first born played happily on a rug. It worked for us grin.

SueDonim Mon 06-Feb-23 20:13:57

NaughtyNeine I hope you are ok! I googled that condition and it sounds v scary. flowers

I was pretty close, then, Blossoming - only a few hundreds miles out from your actual location! grin It’s beautiful anyway.

Poor DGS, Yia I hope he isn’t in too much pain. A friend’s son once had a similar injury. The doctor gave his verdict then said ‘Did you know your son also has an older fracture in his ankle?’ ‘Err…no,’ said my friend, ‘though he did complain a bit about his leg about a month ago. I gave him a Tubigrip and two paracetamol.’ 😳 😂

Brook my GD wanted an Empire biscuit at a cafe we visited one Halloween season. She misheard what the waitress called them and now they’re known in this house as vampire biscuits. 🧛‍♀️

Urms our dd tells us the most astonishing stories from her job in A&E. People are bonkers probably covers it all! One of her patients bit her last week. Luckily, he had no teeth. 😬

I’m pleased Mr Soop was able to enjoy a nightcap. I hope he’s feeling more himself by tomorrow.

It was an odd day here, starting with my beautician’s appt being cancelled, which threw the rest of my day into disarray as it was all planned round that. We still managed some things including a visit to another dump. We’ve decided the dump that’s a bit nearer our house is a superior kind of dump so we won’t visit today’s one again unless ours is closed. grin

I took my car to dealership to get the computer system sorted. The system has been out of action for three months but their ‘tech guru’ had it sorted in about three minutes. Then a free cup of coffee courtesy of M&S vouchers and I picked up a few bits in the food dept and then home. I’ve got meals planned until Thursday so that’s a nice feeling, to be organised.

I’m catching up on various bits and bobs while MrD is cleaning the kitchen floor with his new steam cleaner, and a very happy chap he is, doing that.

Sweet dreams to you all! Xxxx

‘Boys and their toys’ SueDonim eh? Happy chappies with a bit of ‘kit’.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 06-Feb-23 21:03:33

All our children were in a playpen for their own safety at some time or another, we also had one here for the GC as when they started arriving our house was no longer child proof.

Urmstongran Mon 06-Feb-23 21:05:59

GG13 😊😊👋

GG13 😊😊👋

The Imp was and still is an extremely accomplished escapologist, it’s lockdown wherever he is 🤣🤣🤣👋

Grandmabatty Mon 06-Feb-23 21:30:41

Urms you can get very high tech play pens which slot together and do marvelous things. I pop dgs2 in his cot if I need the loo etc. GG 😂. Suedonim I am very fond of empire biscuits. I will call them vampire biscuits from now on. Grannmarie lentil soup made with a ham hough is the best.
House is tidy and I've had a shower and as m ready for bed. See you all tomorrow.

Jaxjacky Mon 06-Feb-23 22:36:00

We’ve been out at quiz night, dingbats were our downfall, but fun was had, which is the point. I had a very rude client on my voluntary phone today, unnecessary, it’s rare, most are very grateful.
Hoping for good news neine
Thank you very much Urms I’ll take that information with me in a week for my next cauterisation, sigh.
Grandmabatty you get best Grandma of the year award definitely.
I’ll wish you good people a very restful sleep.

Well I won't be para ascending any time soon (I did it aged 58 in Langkawi) but thankfully it wasn't what was suspected. There are bulges and various discs and pinching of nerves etc that will need something done at some stage. It all happened so quickly...one minute I'm chatting to the nurse on the phone and the next she is saying you need an emergency MRI within the hour. I didn't tell DOH as he was at work and I really didn't want him worrying. I drove myself to the hospital albeit carefully and was sped through the ED to the MRI and the results were with the ED doctor within the hour. I can't praise them all highly enough. I then drove to DOH's work and told him at which point it hit me (and him) how lucky I'd been and what could have happened. We were both a bit emotional!!!. Normal service was soon resumed..I cooked a gammon joint for dinner. I have been getting the large ones from Aldi and cooking it in Coca Cola ( well Aldi version). It is lush. I did leeks in white sauce and roasted potatoes and peas to go with it. DOH recovered from what might have been.. Devoured the lot. I also made some chocolate fudge brownies as a post birthday treat for him. They went down a storm too. I ached like mad after standing cooking but somehow it was all much more manageable knowing that had it been Cauda Equina syndrome and the worse had happened I wouldn't have been able to stand and prepare a meal. A very thankful Neine fell into bed last night. Thank you for all your lovely words.

soop Tue 07-Feb-23 12:57:11

Naughtyneine What a roller-coaster of a time you've experienced. What an amazing lady you are. Us lot send you every good wish. flowers

I owe you all an apology. I feel that I have neglected you during Mr Soop's poorliness. I assure you that I am grateful for all your kind comments. I shall hopefully feel more up to chatting once he's truly recovered. You are all amazing in the way you support each other. Thank you.

Urmstongran Tue 07-Feb-23 13:07:06

We take our cues from you lovely soop.
We all understand you are highly anxious about your man right now and are just hoping for better news soon. This is such an anxious time for you both. xx

brook2704 Tue 07-Feb-23 14:20:28

That’s good news neine thank goodness things aren’t as bad as could be and you received super quick treatment from the doctors and nurses. Time to breathe a big sigh of relief now and give your OH a big hug

No excuse for rude clients Jax especially when you’re helping them, I hope they didn’t upset you

Soop no need to apologise at all. Your DH comes first and you’re in no way neglecting us when looking after him. I hope he’s feeling a wee bit better soon, poor man. Sending 💐 for you and a 🥃 for Mr Soop

I’ve had quite a good morning sorting out various admin stuff - our house insurance is due for renewal but the renewal quote was quite a bit more than last year. I decided to shop around a bit, found a much cheaper quote and the existing insurers price matched it so a win win all round. So saved a bit of money this morning - although I’ll soon spend it on something else!
We’re out soon to take DGD to her after school activities and then she’s coming back here for a sleepover tonight. I’m looking forward to it especially as I knów there won’t be any bickering with her brother!
Hope grandmabatty’s nursery is going well today 😀

Grandmabatty Tue 07-Feb-23 15:52:08

Soop you have nothing to apologise for. Naught it must be such a relief that it wasn't more serious. Take things easy though . Jaxjacky thank you but we all do what we can.Thank you Brook. Dgs2 is having a little nap, after protesting. He has not been well today, after his great day yesterday. He has a cold or is teething. Dgs1 is sitting beside me eating melon slices. He had a good day at nursery and got a sticker for good listening. Just over half an hour left and the nursery will be closed! The remains of the casserole tonight with fresh mash and a mini apple pie with ice cream. I think I deserve it! Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 07-Feb-23 18:22:09

Hello all and best wishes to Mr Soop. I hope he is enjoying a wee dram or two - or a hot toddy! You had better join him, Soop! I had a good time at the WI Coffee Social. We discussed the cost of Care Homes, drowning, bouquets of flowers and the Scouts. Later I collected my two new pairs of glasses. I particularly like the spotted ones (Cath Kidson) so I’ve attached a photo! Have a good evening.
