Welcome dear Kitcheners. Make yourselves comfortable. There is a tasty, virtually calorie-free buffet ready and waiting.

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people!🥰

Soop, you and MrSoop would be very welcome to enjoy the hot tub and the Caramel wafers! I hope everything goes as well as possible for tomorrow, your dear friend will appreciate your presence and support.

Thank you, Jaxjacky, Urms and YiaYia, we did have a lovely time, we're very thankful.

Today was gentler, I find that I need a restful day after a few days of activity and long drives. I went to morning Mass and the Coffee morning. The ladies gave me a wee plate of home baking to take over to our friend who is recovering from her amputation. We had a good blether, she was delighted with the cakes and wanted to hear all about the hot tub trip. She has such a good spirit, I'm sure that will help her rehabilitation.

Then I came home and dozed most of the afternoon! 😴

Grandmabatty, I hope you had a more restful day today too! It takes some stamina and spirit to manage two energetic wee boys two days in a row, I salute you! 🏆

Jaxjacky, I hope your nose is better today and the cauterisation has been successful. I was cauterised 6 weeks after Ds1 was born, but it wasn't my nose, IYKWIM!🤣

Sar, I feel for your DGD, poor girl. DS2 had a hard time with his braces, his brother wasn't very sympathetic, called him TinGrin...until I had ' a word' with him.

Lovely to see you back, Blossoming, I hope you feel much better soon. Your Marina looks lovely, DH and I enjoy harbours and marinas.

Wishing everyone a peaceful night,
TOYA, NNGB.

Grannmarie Wed 15-Feb-23 20:32:26

Nannytopsy , congratulations on your WI appointment, well done you! 🏆

Blossoming Thu 16-Feb-23 00:38:31

Thank you all for the lovely welcome and support, as always. Today we have been shopping, Mr. B did the heavy lifting and fetching, I helped put it away. We had an enormous late dinner of baked potato, beans and bacon bits. I’m overstuffed grin. Urms my new glasses cost £750 but I love them and they are helping ease my eye problems. I have a complex prescription so the lenses are never cheap. They are Silhouette frames of very thin purple wire and so light and comfortable. Not cheap, but so worth it for me.

I hope Mr. Soop is over the worst now Soop

Goodnight, TOYA

brook2704 Thu 16-Feb-23 17:23:44

Good afternoon lovely kitcheners, I’m just at DD2s house looking after DGd and then taking her to brownies
We did the school pick up and DH has just taken DGS to football practice so it’s all go
A quiet kitchen today, will pop back later, hope everyone is ok
Hoping MrJ is better now Jax and back to normal

Jaxjacky Thu 16-Feb-23 17:42:23

Thanks brook MrJ still on 3 x a week nurse visits, I’m putting a cream up my nose regularly, it’s annoying as it bungs it up, needs must!
Went out for lunch with a friend, extortionate drink prices, one lime/soda, one small wine/soda over £11!
MrJ is off to bowls, I’ll be catching up on Maternal.
Enjoy your evening all.

Urmstongran Thu 16-Feb-23 17:44:36

‘Evening All’

I’ve just dived into the cosy bar below us. Pillar candles have just been lit on all the tables. I’ve set the table before I came down, peeled a few potatoes. Breaded haddock & ratatouille from M&S yesterday means an easy meal so I thought ‘ach, why not go down’ (to my ‘lounge’ ha!). Himself will be home soon, wanting to watch Man. Utd match. For now, this little oasis is bliss. I truly believe having ‘me’ time makes me more amenable to going with the flow with family/friends when required, as my little treats counter balance.
Well, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it!
😊

Urmstongran Thu 16-Feb-23 17:47:00

This is my ‘lounge’.
Fancy joining me for one?

brook2704 Thu 16-Feb-23 18:01:19

That does look good Urms if I was closer I’d definitely join you for one!
Hope it’s not too uncomfortable Jax and not for too many more days

Grandmabatty Thu 16-Feb-23 18:32:01

Good evening Kitcheners. Urms a cosy place to chill. Jaxjacky that sounds difficult. I wouldn't like to put cream up my nose, but I suppose needs must. Grannmarie yesterday was quieter but difficult to see my friend deteriorating so quickly. Today I made myself go to art class and was glad I did. I started two acrylics and one pastel. I wish I could pace myself but I've no patience. I took out a chicken curry from the freezer and it was very nice and spicy. Tomorrow I've promised dd to have dgs2 for a couple of hours in the morning. I will try to get to Aldi first. Brook it sounds like you had a busy day grandparenting. Nannytopsy hearty congratulations on your role. I'm sure you will be excellent. Has Muse stopped posting? I liked to hear about her new house. Have a good evening Kitcheners

dustyangel Thu 16-Feb-23 19:44:42

Good evening everyone, it’s lovely to catch up with the last few days postings.

Grandmabatty your coping abilities with two small boys are amazing. I still remember having a lovely gentle meander home from playgroup fifty odd years ago when a lovely lady stopped her car as she thought DD1 had been taken ill, when in fact she’d cast herself dramatically to the ground because I wanted her to get back in the pushchair as the traffic was getting dangerous.

Sorry to hear you’ve not been too good Blossoming. I hope things improve now.
My sympathies to whoever it was that was itchy, I’d better not risk looking back to check or I’ll lose this. I shall be able to collect my blood test results from tomorrow, hopefully to help diagnose the cause of my own strange rash and itchiness.

I’d love to join you Urms but having been out to lunch again today and having a very sociable few days ahead of us I think I’d better abstain tonight. It must be lovely to have such a pleasant bar on your doorstep though.

Both daughters and their cousin, are arriving tomorrow early for a long weekend. They will get three full days and hope to be able to see both the children’s carnival and the main one which starts on Sunday. Only DD1 has seen it before. I hope the weather stays good for them, and for the people taking part. It can be very chilly for Brazilian style dancers going round on a float.🥳🥳🥳. Hopefully DDs will have some photos that I can show you.

cornergran Thu 16-Feb-23 20:45:02

Hello everyone. Budge over in the bar urms. It looks lovely and I could do with a lift of my spirits.

Another day with much of it spent on long distance calming, harder today as I’m spitting feathers on our goddaughters behalf. Long story short, a review of her Mum’s weekend scan and x-rays yesterday highlighted what appears to be a hip fracture. One hip was eventually replaced last year after a fall from bed, this is the other hip. An urgent appointment was secured at the fracture clinic this afternoon, excellent we thought until the hospital transport didn’t turn up at the Home. Our goddaughter was forbidden from providing transport, deemed not to be safe. Our poor goddaughter was waiting at the hospital and dissolved into tears. Clinic staff were very kind to her, once they understood the appointment and transport was rearranged for tomorrow. Please everyone keep your fingers crossed. There’s a worrying sense of deja vu about this as the first fracture was initially missed.

Your long weekend ahead sounds superb, dustyangel. Hope there will be photos.

Goodness, I went pale at the price of your glasses blossoming, I do know it’s worth it if you need them but I’m thankful my prescription is more straightforward. They do sound smart.

I hope tomorrow isn’t too difficult soop. Will be thinking of you all.

Not long now jax.

Mr C is on daily covid testing prior to an angiogram on Saturday. More crossed fingers needed please as parking for that hospital is proving almost impossible to secure. I’m very anxious driving there. I’ll cope of course but I can feel the stress building already. I keep repeating it will be fine. And of course it will be.

Have a good evening everyone. TOYA.

Jaxjacky Thu 16-Feb-23 21:11:12

No wonder you need Urms to bagsy you a seat corner, what a catalogue of events. Fingers and toes crossed for Saturday and your goddaughter’s Mum.
Sounds like fun dusty definitely pictures required please.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 16-Feb-23 21:36:22

Hello everyone. I’ll have a gimlet please Urms. I’m in Kew lying in granddaughters bed - she’s in with her mum and dad is on the sofa! They go to bed early here. An uneventful journey down. The M4 was practically empty. It looks to be a busy day tomorrow. Elder son and his partner are both working. My daughter is turning up around 10 am. We will take granddaughter/niece to Kew Gardens and have a wander, buy some honey marmalade and have an early lunch. At some point we have to watch a gymnastics display. After dinner I will drive daughter back to West Oxfordshire where she will stay for the weekend. Apparently the decorating is finished but OH hasn’t put the furniture back yet. He said it all looks good. Have a good evening.

SueDonim Thu 16-Feb-23 23:42:12

Just a very quick dash into the Kitchen for me. I’m currently in Yorkshire, having driven all the way from Scotland today without once getting lost! grin. We’re visiting dd2 for a few days and spent a lovely evening catching up, not hav8ng seen her since Christmas.

TOYA. Xxx

Blossoming Fri 17-Feb-23 00:02:40

A quick visit from me also. Hope you’re having a great time SueDonim, I used to regularly drive from Lancashire up to Aberdeen, it’s quite a slog! I don’t drive anywhere these days.

Goodnight all x

Nannytopsy Fri 17-Feb-23 00:28:43

Popping in late as usual! We watched a pretty dull Question Time in order to watch Newscast and it wasn’t on! 😡
DS, StepDGS, DGS & DGD came for dinner which was good fun but so noisy! We have a couple of quiet days then DD & DGS2 are with us for a few days. We are having a shopping trip to Cambridge next week - I am so out of practice at shopping other than supermarkets!
I hope the weather hasn’t been too awful for soop and the other Scottish grans. Here it’s just a bit damp.
Sleep tight everyone

Charleygirl5 Fri 17-Feb-23 09:49:50

corner I cannot believe this is a repeat performance for your friend. I remember what happened last year and it is sheer negligence. I am assuming it is the same hospital that refuses to spend money to x-ray somebody her age who has fallen.

Try not to worry about the drive tomorrow and I hope Mr C sails through it.

It is 12C here today, I hope it is not the calm before the storm.
TOYA

brook2704 Fri 17-Feb-23 12:11:06

Hoping things are sorted for your friend today corner and your goddaughter is less anxious. Also hope tomorrow goes ok for your DH and the journey and parking goes ok, try not to worry
Well done with the long drive SueD hope you enjoy your family time
Hoping the visit to Kew is going well Llfl, I’ve only ever been once and thought it was a lovely place
I’m off to Tesco soon for a few things for the weekend then picking up DGS from school. He’s having a sleepover and then if the weathers not too bad he’s off out hiking with granddad tomorrow
I’ll be in Cambridge in a couple of weeks nannytopsy visiting DD1 and family. Love the shopping there and a meander along the river!
The wind seems to have dropped quite a bit and the sun has come out, still cold though so no chance of gardening today 🥶

Sar53 Fri 17-Feb-23 12:41:50

Hello everyone, I hope Friday is being kind to you all.

My washing machine has just given up, I think a bearing has gone. It's not worth repairing as it's about 6 years old so a new one is on the cards. We will go and have a look tomorrow and hope it can be delivered early next week as I am away from Friday for a few days.

Youngest DGD has gone down with chicken pox, poor love. She has been off school this week for half term and probably won't be back next week. My daughter has recently started a new job three days a week so a bit of a headache for her. Hopefully SIL will be able to work from home.

We went out early this morning to Lidl to get the shopping. I noticed that my usual box of t-bags had gone from £3.95 to £4.79 in price, wow.

A nice bright sunny day with a little wind. I hope all you grans up north are not being blown away.

Blossoming Fri 17-Feb-23 12:43:57

Cornergran I went pale too! They really do make a big difference though, in addition to other problems my right eye was developing a droopy eyelid. It is now back to normal, the ophthalmologist did say that the new lenses would help though I didn’t really understand why. Something to do with field of vision. I’m sorry to hear your friend is once again going through a horrible experience. Hope all goes well on Saturday.

I will pop back later to catch up with you all x

soop Fri 17-Feb-23 12:53:52

Yesterday's funeral and wake was well attended. There were tears and laughter. Our pal's Mum would have approved.

I haven't yet read through all your recent messages. That I shall do after lunch. Bless you all. smile

soop Fri 17-Feb-23 15:23:44

So far. So good. Although I haven't yet fully acquainted myself with the comings/goings/doings of you lovely lot. Sorry. hmm

I have been trawling through every listing for used compact cars.

At one point, I logged on to a site and alarm bells rang loud and clear. Warning of an "infiltrator". MR Soop has joined me. We are about to check out a n interesting small car.

Back later.

BladeAnnie Fri 17-Feb-23 19:15:04

Good evening lovely people from the East Yorkshire coast where we are celebrating Mr BA's birthday 🎁🎊🥂. Very quietly celebrating I hasten to add 😂. But I think we are both ready for a weekend of rest away from our usual life and this lovely little lodge will suit us perfectly 🥰. Hoping everyone has a good evening. TOYA 🌷🌷

cornergran Fri 17-Feb-23 21:08:58

Hello everyone. If someone would tell me where today has gone I’d appreciate it.

Thank you all for your kindness towards our friend. I’m sorry to say there was a repeat performance of cancelled transport today. On hearing this from the fracture clinic our infuriated goddaughter spoke to the transport call handlers, pleading for their help. Apparently the original crew were redirected, another crew was then redirected to our friend. All well and good but that meant another patient somewhere was without transport. How sad.

Another X-Ray and an MRI followed showing a right sacral fracture. Meant not a thing to me, charley will undoubtedly know, Google indicated it’s very painful. Huge relief that no surgery is required but sadness if it means more pain. It’s hard for her to understand why it hurts as it does.

Our goddaughter phoned to tell me the outcome and that she and her Mum were sitting in an empty discharge lounge hoping transport would turn up. That was 5.45. As I’ve heard no more I assume both reached their destinations safely. There had been a strong reminder that our friend has very fragile bones, on being told she should not be allowed to fall our goddaughter was for once speechless. As she said - how?

Our friend was very grumpy indeed, she was in pain and needed to lie down not sit in a wheelchair. We did have a bit of a chuckle when I suggested she had a blow up suit to protect her bones. Dementia is a foul illness, it has stolen much of her. Now and again we can connect in humour which is wonderful.

A late very happy birthday to your husband bladeannie. Enjoy your break.

Hope the car hunt was successful soop. Probably my least favourite thing to be doing.

I’m ok about the drive in tomorrow, it’s the lack of accessible parking that bothers me. All will be well, it has to be! Its a very early appointment, the alarm is set for 5.30, yes am so we’re off to bed very soon.

Goodnight all. Sleep well.

brook2704 Fri 17-Feb-23 21:09:02

Oooh that sounds good BA what a lovely way to celebrate MrBAs birthday! I hope you both have a really enjoyable weekend
DGS is just about asleep here, DH wants to take him out hiking tomorrow so I’m just hoping the weather isn’t too bad as they’re both looking forward to it and it’s been postponed once already. I’ll be staying warm at home..🤣
Hope you can find your ideal car soop, it’ll make such a difference
Hope your DGD isn’t too poorly with chicken pox, Sar and your SiL can work from home whilst looking after her
