Welcome dear Kitcheners. Make yourselves comfortable. There is a tasty, virtually calorie-free buffet ready and waiting.

Hi all! I had an overnight stop in London - glad I allowed an extra 24hrs given the weather today.

About to take off for Chicago - I’ll be seeing DS1 this evening. It’s also dd2’s birthday so we’ve had some online family chat this morning. ❤️

Take care! Xx

Jaxjacky Wed 08-Mar-23 12:24:18

And you Sue 👋

Naughtyneine Like you, I feel the need to make a note of the activities of that lovely lot who breeze into the kitchen, and without as much as a by your leave, share such fulsome and interesting posts. It is a serious challenge (for a lady of my age) to keep fully updated. wink

Yia Bless you. The migraine and vertigo attack must have knocked you for six. Please be gentle with yourself.

Blossoming Golden daffodils are a joyful reminder that Spring is about to make an entrance. Yet we must prepare for 'the beast from the east' to be a buggeration.

Urms I am seriously impressed. Your weight loss is remarkable. I must Google Orlistat.

brook Us lot would, if we could, join you for a day or two in sunny Spain. Enjoy every moment and experience. Photos, please.

Jax Your daughter has sustained a very painful injury. The sooner the tendons are repaired, the better. It is bound to take time for her hand to fully heal.

Thank you, Grannmarie for your eloquent post.

peli The photograph of the beach scene is wonderfully tranquil.

SueDonim As I type, you are high in the clouds. I can sense your excitement as your anticipate the reunion with family members many miles from home. Enjoy!

Hello Soop and everyone. I’m snuggled up on the sofa wrapped in a blanket, which I purloined from British Airways and reading a book on medieval London. It has been snowing all day but isn’t settling. I should have been going to the Local History Society this evening- a mere five minute walk - but it has been cancelled. OH is about to make a pot of tea which I’ll have some of my Barmbrack with. He’s cooking dinner too. Pies, mash, peas and gravy, I made the decision today to stop volunteering at the nearby interesting house. I’ve done so for several years and enjoyed it, but I am doing lots of other stuff too so thought I would stop. I sent an email to the volunteer organiser, but haven’t heard back yet. It’s International Women’s Day. I think the world’s women have a long way to go. Sadly. Have a lovely evening.

Grandmabatty Wed 08-Mar-23 18:36:35

Good evening Kitcheners. Ladyleftfieldlover you sound very cosy. Suedonim have a wonderful trip. It sounds awesome. Peli that looks so tranquil. Grannmarie such a sad occasion but carried out with love. Jaxjacky such a pity about your dd's hand.
I visited my friend today. I don't think it will be long. Anyway macaroni cheese for dinner tonight. No snow here yet but it's expected tomorrow evening. Have a good evening Kitcheners and stay safe

Urmstongran Wed 08-Mar-23 19:32:07

‘Evening All’.

It’s been bitterly cold our way with just a few flakes of snow at 2pm but soon stopped. We’ve eaten roast chicken legs, coleslaw and tomatoes so that was quick and easy to assemble.
#lazygran

We are warm, contented and sated.
I feel tonight for the many who are not so fortunate.

brook2704 Wed 08-Mar-23 19:43:55

That’s such a shame about your DDs hand Jax, I hope it’s not too painful and she doesn’t have to wait too long for her operation
Grannmarie it sounds like a very memorable and beautiful service for your PPs dear mum, how difficult and sad it must have been for him though
We’ve had a really good day here in Cartagena, it’s a lovely place. DH who is more into history than me is in his element and has thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Roman theatre and other Roman ruins throughout the town. We walked up to a castle on a hilltop to enjoy the beautiful views. The weather is warm and sunny but with a bit of a cool breeze. We bought takeaway gourmet sandwiches for lunch and sat at the waters edge watching the boats in the harbour. We’ve been on our feet all day but now we’re back in the apartment and cooking up some pasta for dinner.
I’m sure they’ll miss your volunteering work LLFL, but you can only fit so many things in. When I took early retirement I started volunteering at the local National Trust property but then the DGC came along so I too had to give it up. I’m sure they’ll understand
Hope everyone is keeping warm and cosy in the snow and ice. DD1 in Cambridge says it’s like a blizzard there so we definitely came away at the right time!
Soop if only! ❤️

brook2704 Wed 08-Mar-23 19:45:23

Grandmabatty 💐

Jaxjacky Wed 08-Mar-23 20:19:54

The funeral sounds very apt, but poignant Grannmarie.
Look at that sky brook, nothing like that here today.
We had a light sprinkling of snow first thing, then rain most of the day, cold too, miserable. So, little done, apart from a kitchen clean and some TV catch-up.
Enjoy your evening.

Doodle Wed 08-Mar-23 20:54:16

Sorry I don’t post much but I am reading.
annsixty so pleased to hear about your DGD. Good news indeed. Glad you are getting out and about a bit more now.
Ladyleftfieldlover please let me know when you are next in the kitchen for a baking/cooking session and DH and I will gladly pop over for a tasting session. It all sounds delicious.
Poor Mr Soop’s head. I hope he’s feeling a bit better today.
Urms well done you. That’s a great weight loss.
Grandmabatty sorry about your friend. It’s a shock when it happens to someone you know.
Brook we’ve been to Cartagena. Isn’t the Roman theatre amazing and the castle. Mind you the castle is a bit of a walk 🥵
Jaxjacky sorry about your daughter. That sounds painful.
Suedonim have a fantastic time.
Been to Gp surgery today. Third day running. Can’t fault their care of DH. 22 years post heart bypass his heart has decided it needs a bit of a service.
Hello to everyone not mentioned. Hope all those who are poorly are on the mend soon

Blossoming Wed 08-Mar-23 20:55:10

Good evening dear Kitcheners. Hope your journey went well SueD. LadyLFL our dinner was almost the same! Mr.B went to the little bakery and bought pies, which we had with peas and gravy. That’s probably why I haven’t lost weight like Urms, who is doing extremely well. Lovely picture Brook. It’s snowed on and off today, but it’s very windy and it didn’t settle. It’s so very cold though, so no walk for me. Just pottered about doing a few little jobs. I’m snuggled up in my Oodie now. What a sad occasion for your PP Grannmarie but a fitting tribute. I hope it brings some comfort to see how loved she was. Hope the family are doing well today Jax, they really have been through the mill. Sad to hear about your friend Grandmabatty. Early night for me, the cold does not do me any good! TOYA

Urmstongran Wed 08-Mar-23 21:38:22

Ah Blossoming check back to last night! We had pie and peas!
A little of what you fancy does you good ... occasionally. 🤣

Grannmarie Wed 08-Mar-23 21:56:28

Thank you for the kind comments about our P.P.'s Mum's funeral.

I'm thinking of our dear friend who was taken back into hospital today, she has been home for a month and recovering well from her amputation. I took her out in my car for the first time on Friday, and she was well and in good spirits. The nurse was visiting this morning to dress the bed sore she came home from hospital with, was concerned about her so contacted the doctor who arranged an ambulance. Thankfully her daughter was with her today, she's keeping us informed.

Grandmabatty, I'm sorry about your dear friend. 💐

Thank you for the photo, Brook, I love historical sites. The first Roman site I visited was Pammukele in Turkey, amazing amphitheatre and I remember being quite moved by The Tomb of the Gladiators. Enjoy your adventure!

TOYA, NNGB.

Grandmabatty Wed 08-Mar-23 21:59:56

We have snow! It landed quite gently and without a fanfare. It's still snowing and lying. Who knows what it'll be like in the morning. Brook I hope you are using your Spanish! I'm still plodding along, learning it. Blossoming are you still on the Gaelic? Doodle take care. Off to bed now.

annsixty Wed 08-Mar-23 22:16:47

Good evening all.
We have had several flurries of snow so fine you could hardly see it, all dry now.
What a lot of adventures, Chicago, Cartagena and all points in between.
It is 4 years since I had a holiday and I truly don’t miss the planning, packing and airports.
I have let my passport lapse.
I have enjoyed two nights breaks in London twice and other places more locally, they suit me fine.
I enjoyed coffee out with a friend today and she took me to Aldi, the first time in about two years.
I don’t think I have missed much.
Got home to a message from my friend I was having a Chinese takeaway with on Saturday, she has Covid.
Like me escaped it for two years but it has caught up with her now.
She is feverish, can’t get warm and was awake all night coughing.
I will stay well away until she is better again.
Sleep well everyone and take care.

cornergran Wed 08-Mar-23 22:38:47

Goodness me, everyone is very busy. Mundane here, all routine except I had a quiet hour watching snow land on the conservatory roof, melt, slide down and repeat - several times. Quite hypnotic.

Two small wins. A fitter sorted our stuck front door in just a few minutes, hooray, and the technician in Halfords sorted the argumentative dash cam. Both very kind and their skills free of charge.

Goodnight everyone. My best wishes to all. A hope that holidaymakers have fun times and poorly people feel very much better soon.

hulahoop Wed 08-Mar-23 22:56:39

It's snowing here in Yorkshire .we spent a lovely early evening with DD and GC it's her 40th she has got some lovely things .Spoke with son his burns are slowly healing .I am another who will have to make a list of all your happenings .Hope you all have a restful night.

Nannytopsy Wed 08-Mar-23 22:57:52

That’s unlucky for your friend Ann but you have done well. Lots of space in the kitchen tonight, with all the holiday makers. We go to Tenerife next week, which we are really looking forward to. The suitcases are on the spare bed and everything is being washed and ironed. I always have to get everything ready, then pick out what’s needed. It means we come home to full wardrobes too!
We had a chicken, ham, leek and mushroom pie, topped with a thin layer of potato slices tonight, which kept the carbs down. It was very good and we have enough left for tomorrow.
Result!
Sleep tight everyone 💤

peli Thu 09-Mar-23 00:31:19

Grandmabatty: Such a sad tome for you, I'm so sorry.

Brook: Thank-you for sharing that photo - more please : )

cornergran - that hour watching the snow sounds v cozy & relaxing!

hulahoop: I'm v glad to read the lovely update on yr sons' burns!

Another "walker" out enjoying the beach w/ me, lol. I passed a whole crowd of his mates holding a noisy "convention" further along the sand!

Naughtyneine Thu 09-Mar-23 08:56:31

Morning everyone. I'm up and about early as I'm going home today. My work has had to be cancelled as the van carrying the product crashed on the M25 in the snowy conditions and the boxes spewed across the motorway. Luckily the driver wasn't hurt badly. I'm looking forward to being in the cottage again. More baby lambs have arrived since I've been away and I am back on the rota for feeding of the orphans. How life changes in what seems a blink of the eye ...if anyone had told me a year ago that I'd be wearing torn jeans and yard boots and relishing being part of farming life Is have laughed and said they were mad. I haven't gone as far as not wearing a bra or make up yet. ( I don't think I'll ever go that far).
Grandmabatty... I'm praying that your friend has a peaceful passing.
Hulahoop...Good news that your son is improving...may it continue to heal well.
Ann... Lovely to read your positivity post about getting out and about...and I hope your friend gets well soon.
Granmarie....I hope your friend is back home soon.
Your funeral sounds a wonderful if sad celebration. Your PP gave a priceless last gift to his Mother.
My funeral was a real celebration too...I came away uplifted at a life well spent and lived and loved to the fullest. I went out with my friend ( his daughter ) and my other friend last night (Thelma,Louise and Vera we call ourselves). We had a lovely catch up and are going to plan a girlie? weekend away soon. It's 20 years since we did our first Thelma, Louise and Vera tour to Glasgow (we all wore badges) and our sides hurt from laughing so much. We went to Mr Singh's all dressed in the same outfits and they thought we were members of an older girl band. We laughed till we cried.
Happy Times.
Have a happy day everyone wherever you are....

Blossoming Thu 09-Mar-23 09:27:42

Good morning lovely Kitcheners. I’m sat up in bed drinking tea and watching it snowing outside. I had a bad night so not planning on doing much today. Hope you’re soon back home in your cottage Neine, are you driving home?

Naughtyneine Thu 09-Mar-23 09:51:42

Hi Blossoming..yes I am... I'm going to take it steady and will probably stop at Solstice services on the A303.... There is a big Home Bargains there and I spotted lots of pansies etc when I stopped there last week....so the boot will probably look like a mini garden centre by the time I get back home. 🌸🌹🌺🌼💐

annsixty Thu 09-Mar-23 10:06:44

Naughtyneine I cannot say just how much I admire you for embracing the changes in your lifestyle when you must ,at times, be breaking inside.
You and your OH are very lucky to have found each other and I wish you much happiness in your future together.

Blossoming Thu 09-Mar-23 10:56:24

Safe journey Neine, hope the visit to HB is good. I agree with annsixty, you always sound so positive with a real zest for life.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 09-Mar-23 11:36:45

Morning dear kitcheners, I cannot keep up with everyone’s news, sorry 🌸

I am presently hiding in my kitchen with a buttered hot cross bun and a latte after a rather stressful food shop in Aldi with DH. He insists on using the self checkout, 9 times the assistant had to come and sort him out . Then his phone rang he missed the call and somehow managed to redial as they were ringing him again, he got so flustered and cross, I tried to assist then it was my fault…

Sorry for the rant, I love him dearly, unfortunately he is not finding aging easy and I worry about his cognitive abilities.

(((Hugs))) to all in need.
