St Valentine…..did you get a card or gift?

Over 30 years ago on this day I gave birth to our second child our first son.
My husband left the hospital at 4.00 am and returned at lunchtime with a courgette in a brown paper bag, he said the flowers were all outrageously priced because it was Valentine’s Day!
Never been quite sure why a courgette, it remains a mystery.
Since then I have always told him not to bother despite our finances being in much better shape now!
It is now just our sons birthday but perhaps secretly I would like a card, flowers or a little treat😉

Sadly I have no one to buy me a gift/card today. But no matter.

NotSpaghetti Tue 14-Feb-23 11:53:48

I love the courgette story ❤️
Something quite lovely about that! flowers

NotSpaghetti Tue 14-Feb-23 11:55:03

I would have always looked at courgettes with a great fondness after that. 😊

No. I told MrP not to waste his money. We don't need a special day in the year to know that we love each other.

My son arrived at 8.00 a.m this morning with a card and small gift....he does this every Valentine's.
I'm very lucky.

My Gran always used to give me a Valentine's card. Signed 'Love Gran.' No mystery!
Found a card and box of chocs had been left for me by a secret admirer. DH looking smug wink

dogsmother Tue 14-Feb-23 12:14:26

Yes, both but I only gave him a card ( a little grudgingly ) as I knew he would be full on for me. He’s much the romantic and I’m not really.

Nothing but the husband has just spent 3 days on bed with norovirus so he’s forgiven. 😁

OH forgot for the first time ever! So he ran upstairs and found a card in his stash of cards and wrote one for me. Later he is popping to Waitrose to buy their £20 Valentine meal deal. He feels extra guilty as I’m having to get up so early to let the decorators in. He can’t because of his medication side effects. True. I bought him a card and chocolates

Not telling. Happy Valentines' day to all those grans who have no longer got someone to share it with. This is another occasion that can hit the wrong spot. flowers

Auntieflo Tue 14-Feb-23 12:42:32

No. Neither of us exchanged cards or presents. I did send a card to our son and DIL though, as it is their wedding anniversary.

notgran Tue 14-Feb-23 12:53:11

We exchanged cards as we have always done and as is usual his is more thoughtful with a lovelier message than mine to him grin

sodapop Tue 14-Feb-23 13:02:30

Roses for me today but no cards from either of us.
Love the courgette story sago grin

twinnytwin Tue 14-Feb-23 13:04:20

Yes, a card each and a Valentine meal deal for later. We spoke a while ago about using the old cards I've collected over the years, instead of buying new for Christmas, Valentines Day etc and he agreed. However, when I mentioned it a few days ago he said he'd already bought me a card so I went and got him one too. He also bought me a Christmas card so obviously exchanging new cards does mean something to him, even after 30 years married.

Grammaretto Tue 14-Feb-23 13:23:01

Sometimes we would recycle the cards we had kept from years ago.
DH was much more romantic than me.
I had forgotten today but sat in his favourite spot in the green house to drink my morning coffee and felt his presence.
The sunshine was a big bonus.
Hope you enjoy the day whatever you do. smile

Sending love to those missing their loved ones.

I got a card and some chocolates. I think DH realises he is fortunate (?) that I am still around.

NotAGran55 Tue 14-Feb-23 13:33:54

No cards here as we don’t need a commercial day to waste money on.

silverlining48 Tue 14-Feb-23 13:36:44

Not even mentioned it apart from noticing it’s been on r4 for what seems a lot. It’s enough to say we have been together 57 years.
Sending love from me too to those who are missing their special people. flowers

B9exchange Tue 14-Feb-23 13:42:44

I am intrigued by the corgette, has he ever explained? grin

We celebrate 50 years on Friday, his secret admirer always gives him a card and small chocolate present as does mine, but nothing more. We are off tomorrow to South Africa for the actual anniversary, getting very excited now.

For those for whom today is hard, we are all thinking of you. flowers

silverlining48 Tue 14-Feb-23 13:49:23

Congratulations on your golden anniversary B9 enjoy your holiday.

Yammy Tue 14-Feb-23 13:51:48

Lots of us are feeling for you and others today tanith and crossing our fingers we will still be in the same place next year as we are now.flowers

SueDonim Tue 14-Feb-23 13:53:22

We don’t give each other cards/gifts nowadays. We still wish each other a happy Valentine’s Day, though. ❤️

It’s also the anniversary of my grandmother’s death, when I was a small child. I have just the vaguest of memories of her.

Witzend Tue 14-Feb-23 13:57:33

No card, but three! boxes of chocs! Naturally dh will help me to eat them - and just as well.

I got him a card, but forgot to get anything else.

MawtheMerrier Tue 14-Feb-23 14:02:44

Like Tanith and many others on this site - no, for obvious reasons.
However, if anybody was expecting one from me who happens to be looking in -
