Do you remove engagement ring when doing messy work?

I love jewellery, but little has sentimental value for me. My first engagement ring was a sapphire and diamonds in yellow gold with a very wide wedding ring. I then decided I preferred white metal, so that called for a new thin wedding band and an emerald and diamond engagement ring. Then we were burgled and a few pieces taken, so I ended up buying a new (expensive) emerald and diamond engagement ring to replace all the others. Fifteen years ago we went on a Nile Cruise and I didn’t want to take the emerald, so I bought a diamond set wedding band which I now wear all the time. (In Egypt our bus was attacked by bandits, so it was a good buy!). I do all jobs wearing that, but I do take my watch off, but that’s another story.

I can’t understand when people wear rings with stones in them whilst making pastry or bread etc. The stone settings are probably full of gunge so rather unhygienic.

Wedding ring hasn’t been off my finger since we married. Engagement and other rings with stones aren’t worn around the home or at the beach, always been the same

Wearing niether at the moment. my engagement ring fell apart and is being remade and my wedding ring had to be cut off and is being made larger so that i can take it off.

When on, I only take them off when needed for medical or other reasons, otherwise I wear them all the time. Mind you I do wear rubber gloves for heavy cleaning and also gradening gloves. Blow the ring, it is my skin that cannot cope with harsh chemicals and gardening.

Keep both on all the time regardless.

I do take my engagement and eternity rings off when baking gardening etc. They are too precious to get clogged up with all kinds of unpleasant gunge.

Having been in a career where only a wedding ring was allowed at work, I seldom wore my engagement ring. I have both engagement and eternity rings on a ring tree in my bedroom. They are worn when I'm going out and I need to dress up, otherwise that is where they live.

I can’t get my wedding ring off, and don’t take my eternity ring off if I can help it. I have a habit of putting things “in a safe place” and then forgetting where they are! For the most part I make pastry in my food processor so only the left hand is pressed into service for any mixing or kneading required. I wear gloves for gardening. Periodically I soak my ring in warm soapy water and then carefully clean the back of the stones with a soft paintbrush. Seems to do the trick.

I’ve found a dab of toothpaste on an old toothbrush works well for cleaning gemstones - slightly abrasive, but won’t cause damage.

I never remove my wedding ring. I have no other rings, I married at 16 - no money for engagement ring.

I rarely wear my engagement ring, just for very special occasions, but never remove my wedding ring or eternity ring.

I do love jewellery and have always varied the rings that I wear. I have a "substitute" wedding ring with is a very narrow platinum band that works better with some of my rings than the original gold band.
My mother was horrified that I took my wedding ring off, but I think that many people took theirs off during Covid when they had to use hand sanitizer all the time. I know I started to get dermatitis around my rings then.
My original engagement ring vanished when I took it off when cooking, I think it was stolen by a delivery person who had to carry things through the house. My second one was stolen in a burglary. Makes me wonder whether it would be more sensible to have less jewellery and never take it off!

No I don't and wouldn't. I know alot of people do take them off. I know I'm ultra protective of them now. Always was however more so now

Since my husband passed away 5 years ago I also wear his wedding ring under mine, with my engagement ring so I'm even more protective of them now

I don't have an engagement ring but wear my gran's one with my wedding ring. I take them off only when working with pastry or some similar sticky dirty job. Gardening - I wear gloves so don't take the rings off.

I take the rings off now and them to dip them in jewellery cleaner.

Hardly ever wear mine don't like it much!

I dont wear any rings, I have both a wedding ring and engagement ring but got out of the habit of wearing them when I was working in a packing shed for years. Too dangerous. Now I just cant be bothered and to be honest I am not a jewellery person

Didn't have one first innings. Do have a whoppa second innings and take it off!! I also have several rings in every colour to match with outfits etc so chop and change but only wedding ring present when gardening/spring or autumn cleaning and anything dangerous!

I never wore my engagement ring during lockdown and had e a job remembering to wear it now! Try to remember to wear it if going out, but never did wear it when baking.

No. That's how people lose them.

I did exactly same and claimed on insurance! All lost when kitchen ripped out, .......about a year later I found them all( had small solitaire for my 21st by then!)safe in a Peter rabbit egg cup rarely used!!! Btw #1 spouse never bought me replacement anyway , he blew the money on a new lense for his very expensive camera so glad I found them!

No i have been married 45 years next week and never take them off. Lately i have been wearing rubber gloves for the dishes, but i have a jewellers cloth and shine them on my finger. They still look good after all this time

Footnote: along with four or five genuine pieces ,I have several dress rings or faux, all real gold but I always remember Joan Collins saying she woke takes just in case she were mugged , she'd gladly hand them all over z knowing that they were worth next to nothing!!! Talk about last laugh , I too don't fret about damage or loss with the fakes!!
