1. My eye wipes, drops and cream that I bought for my sore eyes are finally working. They feel much better
2. My DG, who came round in a strop after a telling off, left with a smile on her face.
3. My eldest DD seemed optimistic and in good form in a phone call, despite recent problems.

Just finished reading Portrait of Clare by Francis Brett Young as recommended by you back in February.. It is one of the best books I have read for a very long time, and I read a lot!
The descriptions of the countryside and of a woman’s life at the beginning of the 20C has had me spellbound, and I couldn’t put it down. It even took precedence over Gransnet!

So I’m very grateful for your recommendation.

It’s a long book, but so worth it. I have the lovely blue backed Severn edition which was in my inherited MILs’ bookcase from the beginning of my marriage and I only took it out this year.

I’m now going to order more of this very underrated writer’s works. He’s ruined me for others I have picked up recently, including the designated book group read🙄
It’s interesting that many fine writers like F.B.Young, so popular in their day, just go out of fashion.

I ordered the book from my local library and there was a sticker inside which said that novels by this author and of other popular fiction from that era were available in the university library’s Readership and Literary Cultures Collection. So obviously very valued!
I shall certainly try Dorothy Whipple too.

Today? A quieter day

1 Thank goodness we don't live in a country where there is long-term drought 🌧

2 I sat in a dry conservatory listening to the rain, thankful I didn't have to go out

3 A friend rang reminding us of a lunch date tomorrow

Yesterday I went out with an old friend who is down here on a visit after moving away a couple of years ago. She brought her new husband down to meet me.
We all went to a very nice pub by the sea and had a long chatty lunch catching up with all our news. It rained a lot.
A quieter day today with visits from my granddaughter and then my son for dinner later. Sunshine today.
Meeting the old friend again tomorrow. Rain forecast.
Just thinking how lucky I am to have these lovely people in my life.

Just chanced upon this lovely thread. That can be Gratitude 1 for today!
Gratitude 2 is for a day of lovely weather for a change
And Gratitude 3 is for the energy I had to get the grass cut and the washing out by 10am, with the reward of a sit down by the pond.
Lovely to look back on a day with gratitude.

I give thanks for my lovely family, having dinner with one of my daughters tonight.
The first daffodil is blooming and so is the camellia- it is sunny today but still cold.
We are going out to lunch with a couple of newfound friends, always nice to be with someone new.
My granddaughter had a bad car accident but walked ( or crawled) out of her vehicle unharmed.

My fourteen year old car got through its MOT.
A large single beautiful rose bloomed from a rose bush I put in yonks ago and had given up on.
I wrote a poem.

My DH made a lovely dinner and was on the table when I got in.

A good friend loaned me a lovely Hobbs dress to try on for colour and style for my mother of the bride outfit next year

Buried the hatchet with someone at work I'd previously had words with
