'Queen Camilla'?

Why can't people accept that this is just how it works (as foxy says)...

“Queen Camilla” is the appropriate title to set against “King Charles”. All former Queen Consorts as far as I know have been known as “Queen” plus their first name.’

Alexandra, Mary, Charlotte, Caroline etc were European royalty. The Queen Mum was Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon it is true, but you can’t pick and choose because you think Kate is “more Queen-like” or whatever

Are royals not aristocrats? I don’t make a distinction between the two.

As for Catherine being more “queen- like” than Camilla, that is just my personal impression.

Many, if not the majority of the so-called Aristocratic Families descend from the fourteen distaff children of King Charles 11 (The Merry Monarch!). Both Diana and Camilla have ancestory from there.

Camilla's great grandmother was Mistress to Edward Vll - so does that make her 'artistrocat' enough for you????

To all of you slagging Camilla off , you must all be as white as the driven snow and have never made a mistake . Half the things Camilla is accused of is only known by disgusting people listening into what should have been totally private phone conversations. The idea of "aristocracy" is based on a conceit. The Greek word αριοτος 'aristos' means 'the best' so the implication of aristocracy is that it is rule by people who are superior. You will not convince me that any member of the hereditary peerage is in any way superior to me, certainly not by dint of accident of birth alone. As somebody who is keen on photography I did admire Patrick Anson, 5th Earl of Lichfield, whose studio was next door to a primary school where I was a governor (footballs tended to end up on his roof followed by the sound of little feet retrieving them and I did chat with him quite often, but I respected him for his acquired skill, not for his inherited genes.

Anyway, it's almost certain that all of us with any English ancestry at all are directly descended from Edward III (or was it Henry III? One medieval warlord is pretty much like any other medieval warlord to me. They both had plenty of mistresses and lots of children anyway and are known to have at least one attested living ancestor). Also, it's even more certain that everybody of western European ancestry is descended from Charlemagne. So what price "the best"?

[I'd like to make clear that I have never had a Greek lesson in my life so I'm not pulling educational rank. I went to a bog-standard comp and I do have O-level Latin but Greek wasn't on offer. I taught myself a little Greek in order to better understand the New Testament.]

My opinion, and it’s only that, is that Camilla supports Charles to the hilt and makes him a better King that he would otherwise have been.
As for all the fanatic royalists, on here and other places, why are you disrespectful in not using their “proper” titles, eg Kate, which the PoW has said she is never called, instead of the Princess of Wales? Maybe it makes you think you know them personally? We none of us know them.

It's not "disrespectful" at all, LOL! We're chatting on social media and for the sake of brevity some of us use their familiar names - we're not serfs obliged to doff caps and speak in reverenced tones when mentioning royalty!

The Princess of Wales might be called Catherine now but she was definitely Kate when William met her at university.

Camilla being called Queen is what Charles always wanted and was not going to settle for anything else. Queen consort is long winded so using King Charles and Queen Camilla is an easier option. Many people in the U.K still hold Camillas past and her
involvement with Charles when he was married to Diana against her. King Charles obviously wants to please his precious wife and he is not bothered what anyone else thinks.

Nevertheless, Charles is pretty sensitive to the public's response. Remember how irritated he was when people were keener to see Diana than him. Judging by the BBC's royal correspondent it seems that they're trying out the name. How will he feel if people ignore them and the coronation? The Palace PR machine will be on overdrive.
Charles did well on his German visit. He'll be hoping the coronation will be a triumph. I reckon it will be relatively muted compared to his mother's although the TV will have a field day the public might not be that bothered.
Oddly, OH is furious about Queen Camilla! I'm amazed he can be bothered.

If ever there was a case for using non-gendered language to clear up the murkiness, it's this one. Especially since British monarchs at least are no longer leaders of armies any but the most notional sense (the last UK monarch to lead an army in battle was George II at the Battle of Dettingen in 1743).

Let's just call the monarch, if we are going to have one, the king and the king's consort the queen. So we could have just moved on from King Elizabeth and Queen Philip to King Charles and Queen Camilla and being done with it.

You think that's daft? I suggest that's only because it feels strange you've spent all your life assuming that a king must be male. It's a linguistic nicety, not an absolute rule. Remember that the late queen was also Duke of Lancaster, not Duchess of Lancaster, because a duchess is the consort of a duke not a female duke.

Let anybody here who has never said anything in intimate pillow talk that they wouldn't want splashed all over the newspapers cast the first stone.

I find it very interesting that Julie Burchill, of all people, the number one Diana fangirl, wrote at the time of the Camillagate/Squidgygate revelations that the intimate Charles and Camilla exchanges had an earthy sexuality whereas the Diana/James Hewitt tapes revealed a naive, childlike and curiously asexual aspect of Diana's nature. I never could stand Julie Burchill personally but I thought then and still think that that was a shrewd assessment of the two women.

I'm all in favour of Queen Camilla. I think she's great and an asset to Charles. They seem very happy together.
