Typical Gransnetter

Years ago there was a "census" of gransnetters (not compulsory!) and once the answers had been counted up, the results were put on the forum. It was interesting. I wonder whether the answers would be the same today? Also, would people be as prepared to answer honestly as they were then?

It would be interesting to see an updated census for Gnet. Despite the participants would be self selecting there should be a good many participants as Gnetters are not shy of expressing their opinions and interests.

Years ago I used to have a job as a pollster and had to ask a lot of questions door to door ( it was job number 3 at weekends when the kids were at private schools). The obvious lies many told were an absolute eye opener. For example, asking a group of drunk blokes holding beers in their hands if they consumed alcohol- the answer was, ‘no’. I wrote down what they said and had a bit of a laugh.

Nanna, there must have been something wrong with the poll you were doing when the responders told deliberate lies and these were recorded as facts.

I think in a proper questionnaire the responders are asked a variety of questions to the effect of detecting lies.

You have my sympathy. In asking a perfectly ordinary question, (in my opinion), you have been shot down in flames by the 'know-it-all', 'take offence at the drop of a hat' brigade all trying to outdo one another with their virtue signalling

Well I can safely say I don't read any British papers because we can't get them here! I'd just have to read the Daily Mail out of sheer curiosity, though. Is it really that bad? I am going to google it....

Can't you get the Guardian online? It does report Australian news!

Having been on GN for about 5 years I can honestly say none of you are typical. That is to say you are all very different and interesting.

I am not your typical gransnetter, I don’t have any grandchildren and I am an immigrant!

I do feel very sad whenever I read the bereavement and estrangement threads. Or when the poster said their adult children never bother to contact them. Being on GN made myself realised how lucky I am that my daughter still talks to me.

My daughter has been saying how lucky we are as a family, to have survived the pandemic and to be able to cope with the current cost of living and housing crisis when there are so many people struggling right now.

Fanny so funny enjoyed that can agree with a few as a young 63 year old who loves smooth radio shops at M&S and aldi. And is still working😏fab post though!

I think the average gran is 70 years plus.

I’m 78 and don’t fit any of that criteria.
