Nailbrushes - a thing of the past?

It occurs to me that no families of the younger generation appear to have nailbrushes. Am I alone in owning one, even though it's not in daily use?

I have 3 on the go one in the bathroom two in the kitchen one for me and one for scrubbing potatoes.

I buy mine from Tesco, I like the single row of bristles on the back, they get right in there!😁

I have nail brushes in the kitchen and bathrooms. My latest brushes came from Boots, but are available in several local chemist shops.
My daughter, middle fifties also uses nail brushes.

I hear that Care homes and hospitals do not use nailbrushes for patients.

Alioop Tue 11-Apr-23 19:19:31

I used one of mine today after being in the garden.

I have always had nail brushes in the kitchen, the utility room and the downstairs cloakroom. Indispensable.

Communal use of nail brushes would be unhealthy in care homes /hospitals.

Obviously. They don’t encourage people to have their own.

Me too! My nails get in a right mess after gardening, despite wearing gloves.

I have one at my kitchen sink, one in the downstairs loo and one in the bathroom. I also have 3 manicure sets, one down by where I sit during the day and one in my bedroom and the other is in my handbag. The most used item in them is the end of the nail file for cleaning out my nails....how the heck do they get so dirty so often?

DillytheGardener Tue 11-Apr-23 20:42:49

I have a nail brush in every bathroom, (gardening necessitates it). DS1 and dil (in their 30’s) have them as they are both artists and get mucky hands. Ds2 who works in an office (late 20’s) doesn’t use one.

We have one near each sink. Essential after gardening or doing any dirty job.

Not something as a thing of the past for me. We have them in both shower and bathrooms, and also in our travel toilet bags.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 11-Apr-23 21:34:21

We have a couple of wooden ones with natural bristles.

NanaDana Tue 11-Apr-23 21:39:02

We have several, and they're in regular use. I've noticed them in our Son's and Daughter's bathrooms too. Ours are wooden, rather than the plastic ones.

Four in use here, one each in the shower caddy, on the bathroom basin, in the kitchen and utility room sinks. I couldn’t make pastry without scrubbing underneath my nails, before and after.

Auntieflo Tue 11-Apr-23 22:05:08

We have one at each sink/basin. The only trouble I found when buying a new one was that are not as stiff as they used to be.

Revolting things. They just sit there harbouring germs in my view.

Can you tell us what you use instead to clean ingrained gardening dirt in your nails and nail beds dogsmother? If there is an alternative I’d love to know.

I have one somewhere. I use it mainly in the summer if I’ve done some gardening, which is very rarely these days.

Cabbie21 Tue 11-Apr-23 22:33:08

I have three, like most others, in bathroom, downstairs loo and by the kitchen sink, for vegetables. The bathroom one is also used to scrub any mess from teeth cleaning on the wash basin. I pop them in the dishwasher when they need washing.

Hetty58 Tue 11-Apr-23 22:34:32

I do a lot of gardening, so have one in the downstairs loo. My daughters, though, prefer to wrap a baby wipe around a nail stick or tweezers. Their nails are longer than mine.

LadyGracie Tue 11-Apr-23 22:45:54

I use them and frequently put them in the dishwasher.

Mollygo Tue 11-Apr-23 22:48:55

2 Kitchen 1 for potatoes, 1 for gardening or other dirt under nail jobs.
1 in the bathroom.
Ours are made of bamboo. DDs recommended them to me as that’s what they use.

I one read a tip suggesting that you scrape your nails down a bar of soap before gardening so that no dirt can get under there. I don't do much in the garden, that's DH realm, but I always wear gloves.

I have nail brushes at all wash basins and use one every day to scrub my cuticles in the hope that it will soften them so that I can push them back and get tidier nails, but after 50! years I don't think my nails will ever grow or be pretty. They never grow long enough to gather any dirt under them.
