Due to my AF, I have cut back considerably.
Wine brings on my AF but the odd G&T I can get away with.
Gutted!
That’s why I gave up red wine. I’m fine with a G&T or a couple of glasses of dry white.
I suppose I ought to change my username. 😩🤣

Does it hit the sweet spot. Are you over or under? Does it matter to what you want to do in the future? I am restricting my alcohol intake. The person I would like to be goes running at dawn. The person I am chills out and carries a glass of wine round my garden in the evening. Where do you fit in?

I have just checked the bottle of cider - it is 5.1 units for 750ml.
I drink one every night! And have for years… that is more than double the recommended unit’s.
I’ve never really bothered to think about it before….😮
I definitely used to drink more than I do now, I find I sleep badly, and it slows me up too much now the next day if I have more than one glass of wine, so it’s not worth it. There’s definitely no doubt that lots of people drink way too much though. According to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, older people tend to drink less alcohol than younger people, but even so 1 in 5 older men and 1 in 10 older women are drinking enough to harm themselves.
That’s a lot of people!

I dont drink but our wine racks are always full and we have a booze cupboard that many a pub would be happy with. Before Covid we'd have people drop in without warning and we like to be able to be hospitable .On top of that we have around 4 GALLONS of home made Marsala ,that we made in our last house ,we moved here in 1989 .I've given some away and use it for cooking but it hardly seems to go down .It was 5 gallons originally .Most people we know have really cut back on alcohol
Beware… it can and does go off as we found with some of our wines in our wine cellar.
I’ve cut back a lot and am now below 14 units a week. It’s a very easy habit to get into but can be a very difficult one to break.

I don’t believe that! No Young people I know could afford a trolley full of booze like I see older people with.
Shopping with my son last week and this lady was on the same route as us. Her trolley was full of booze and little bits like bread, milk and a few veg. Her face was bright red like she drinks too much.
I drink as much or as little as i fancy, and as for counting units, forget that, enjoy life.

The cider we sometimes share a can of is Old Mout 330 mls is 1.3 units. Kiwi and Lime.
Some dishes beg to be accompanied by a nice glass of red. A bottle will last me well over a week though. I don’t drink white wine and rarely drink spirits. My favourite drink is Guinness, and the zero alcohol version is very acceptable.
I will have a cider at lunchtime with friends or maybe prosecco, but don't drink at home on my own

Surely that’s her business? 🤔

I don’t think you read it properly - if one in ten older people is causing themselves harm by drinking, the lady you saw was no doubt one of the one in ten? I’m more inclined to believe the RCP than anecdotal evidence of your supermarket experiences though.
I seem to have just gradually gone off alcohol. If I'm out for lunch I'll have a small glass of wine but often don't drink it. I enjoy various fruit juices with M&S raspberry lemonade a favourite.

I was thinking the same, merlot. How awful to be judged by the contents of one shopping trolley, and a complexion that could be down to any number of things.
I believe young people are drinking less nowadays.
I have a glass or two of rose most evenings while I am cooking. DH has a couple of cans of Fosters in the kitchen with me We catch up on our days, watch the news and chunter!!
I was ill for 3 months and can't express how pleased I am to get this bit of normality back.
We only drin when in company- so way under recommended amount.
I am really concerned that the next generation are over on a constant basis, and think it is normal - because they all do it.
so glad you are feeling much better kitty.
I have a small glass of cava and an inch of red most nights. I always remember our first GP here in France saying you could give up wine, cream and cheese and live longer, but it would feel like a very long time. 😂
Just in case you are not aware:
"https://www.gov.uk/drink-drive-limit" ....The limit is significantly lower in Scotland - I like a bottle of 'Muriel' on special occasions. Muriel is a lovely red wine and also happens to be my mum's name!

I think that’s correct if my young adult grandchildren are anything to go by.
They don’t drink as often as we did when we were their age but when they do they tend to go for a stronger, more expensive tipple. We would never have been able to afford cocktails or shots even if they’d been available in the local pub.
There will always be drunken youngsters staggering around town centres on a Saturday night but I don’t think it’s any worse than it used to be.
I love a glass or two of red wine. We have a large wine rack full that we get delivered. I’m trying to lose a little weight so have given up alcohol now through the week. I realise it’s just empty calories and I sleep better without a glass of wine. But I do love it.
I love a cocktail, a G&T and a glass of wine.
At 85 I am not going to change and it really can’t shorten my life by much.
Only when I'm out for dinner or there's a special occasion - so hardly ever. I like a cider or glass of wine. There's no alcohol at home, though, as my friends and family all drive so can't indulge.

I have a unit in the evening , sometimes another half glass at the weekend. I’m noticing friends who drink a lot being fit n happy. Others, like my lovely husband who drank little ate well walked etc died far too young. If you don’t enjoy a glass of wine or s g snd t, thsts fine but let those of us who do, enjoy ourselves
Well said Iam.
Absolutely Iam
I enjoy a drink with family and friends, I am not harming anyone and am healthy and happy.
Walked regularly until my 60’s , can’t do it now but enjoy life when I can.
