To me it will depend on the degree of ‘wokery’. If that includes having to use terms like ‘birthing person’ instead of ‘mother’, and various euphemisms for ‘woman’, then I’m happy to be un-woke, but still (I hope) kind, caring, and lacking in prejudice towards LBGT people.

You've just made that up Witzend because someone has misled you about it. That's not what "woke" means at all.

Insult or compliment, woke means exactly what the person using it intends.

I've posted on a few threads about this. When it comes to being 'woke', I'm firmly with the inimitable Kathy Burke, who said: “They’re calling you ‘woke’ if you call out bad things, basically. If you’re not racist, you’re woke. If you’re not homophobic, oh, you’re woke. Be woke, kids. Be woke. Be wide awake and f***ing call it out.”

The word 'woke' simply means being aware. However, it has been hi-jacked by those seeking to impose their ridiculous ideology on the rest of us. Sadly, too many people are only too eager to be seen as trendy and happily embrace their nonsense without considering the true agenda behind it all.

I don’t like the connotations of that word and don’t use it. Like many others I know I’m involved with a food bank and have done quite a lot of voluntary work over the years. It’s the right thing to do although I wouldn’t normally discuss it. It’s surprising how many people help in various ways but never speak of it.

White privilege doesn't mean that every white person is living an easy life.

It means that in general, white people never have to contend with discrimination based on the colour of their skin. That's all.
