Coronated!

'Coronate, meaning' 'to crown'. is a very old word in use from 15/16C. It's fallen by the wayside, apart from in botany, but is a genuine word, not made up.

And guess why Americans use it? Because American English is closer to 16th century English then current day Queens English.

I do not care what word is used the Ireland, Scotland and Australia. The post was talking about, and judging a word used IN the US.

Actually, yes, the world has been watching King Charles being crowned.
Some lovely Americans have been in the crowds here and interviewed on TV.

Dickens I didn’t realise that ‘toileted’ was used anywhere other than Primary Schools.

As a TA I spent a lot of time making sure the kids were all toileted before we left the school building to go anywhere.

I’m sure that someone (a KA?) will be there to ensure that KC has been toileted prior to his coronation.

(And also to make sure that he doesn’t mess about in the boys’ toilets)

Or throw wet toilet paper on the ceiling, squirt everyone entering with the water fountain, lock the doors from the inside and crawl under. To top it all drink the liquid soap they certainly had to be toileted quite a few times before their mother came for them.
I've been there as well Fanny and made sure everyone was toileted!!Surely someone would remind KC before he got into the carriage.

Do Americans not understand the difference between an adjective and a verb when using the English language imaround?

Well, I'm really going to put the cat amongst the pigeons when I admit that since coronated was first discussed on Gransnet after QE2's death, I have grown to quite like the word, and it now comes to mind sooner than crowned when I need the appropriate word.

Watching today's crownation hasn't changed my mind 😉

Oh believe me imaround we did watch him be crowned and we loved it. The whole thing was extremely moving and people from all over the world came to Britain especially to be part of it. Good on them because it was absolutely magnificent.
