Well I thought I would start this thread for those who are going to sit back and enjoy the day.

At the beginning of my life -I was 6 years old, I was at Hyde Park Corner under a policeman’s cap, in the pouring rain, now at 77 I am at home in front of the television.

I shall enjoy every minute of it. Just watching the guests arriving.

Love the Gospel Choir.

The gospel choir made me cry

“made in Italy in the late 6th century, and it may have come to Kent in 597 with the mission directed by Pope Gregory”

St Augustine brought it to these islands.

I would love to be watching but unfortunately I’m working. We hoped our shop would close for a couple of hours so we could see the ceremony but owners weren’t prepared to lose takings! I shall have to make do with the highlights when I get home tonight!!

Anybody who claims our country is racist is so wrong. We have a beautiful black lady taking an important part of the service, we have an Asian PM doing a reading and doing it very well and we have a small black choir performing a lovely hymn and looking very happy to do so.

Oh wonderful plain song

Foxygloves Sat 06-May-23 11:41:42

Loved the Gospel Choir too!
It’s a lovely service - I don’t really remember Queen Elizabeth coronation in 1953 as I was just 5 but have recently seen so many newsreels of it etc that it feels familiar. But how stuffy and remote it all was. I feel genuinely proud and emotional because the King is doing his best to be one with us. He can’t help the accident of his birth but I genuinely believe he is going to do everything possible to serve his people - all of them, all of us 🤴👸. 🇬🇧

It transports you back through the ages

The plain song I mean

We also have Floella Benjamin (through the round window) bearing part of the regalia. (Can’t see Humpty or Hamble though, perhaps they’re in a back row.)

Willing to bet that numerous people who swore they weren’t remotely interested and would be in the garden or walking the dog are somehow just happening to be watching .

And now ‘Zadok the Priest’.

Bliss!

Well if they aren't, they're missing out on an amazing spectacle. History in the making, and you most definitely don't need to be a Royalist to appreciate it. I'm not, and am frankly surprised that I'm finding it all so moving.

Love Zadok! Can still sing it by heart.

The most moving thing for me so far has been the Greek chant, in honour of Prince Philip.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 06-May-23 11:57:36

Look at that robe! Blimey

Lexisgranny Sat 06-May-23 11:58:07

Very impressed with the way Penny Mordaunt is carrying out her role. I think her dress and headband are spot on - just a touch of uniform about them. She must have been holding that sword for about three quarters of an hour,I’m sure it was a strain in her arms.

Just what we said! She so looks the part and is doing her job perfectly.

She must have been practicing and working out to do it. She has been incredible

She may not have got Party Leader, but she got the best job - both when Queen Elizabeth died and at Charles’s proclamation etc and now.

That is quite an ordeal I think.

Thinking Charles looks absolutely exhausted. Hope he gets through it all today.

NanaDana Sat 06-May-23 12:11:02

Amid all the ceremonial, just reflecting upon what a lengthy ordeal all this must be for a 74 year-old Charles. Yes, he appears to be healthy for his years, but it still must be a challenge, both physically and of course emotionally. He'll be drained by this evening. Then of course, both he and Camilla will have to attend the Coronation concert from 8 p.m. this evening, when I'll bet that all they'll want to do is to put their feet up. Tough job.

I guess he has to be 100% focused throughout.

FannyCornforth Sat 06-May-23 12:15:49

I’ve got a bracelet like Camilla’s!
