Thank you Charles (What did you do today if you didn't watch?)?)

Just wanted a thread for those of us who are not watching every minute. It's a lovely day up north and I've a line of washing out. I also decided to spring clean my sitting room! So thanks Charles, I uncovered 2 missing socks, 77p in change, several pins, some hair elastics and a load of dust!
What have you done if you aren't glued to the TV?
Think I'll go for a walk now.

Cleaning the windows and vacuuming the bedrooms, just stopped for a cuppa. Will potter in the garden later.
My first and probably last coronation, but I’ve no interest in it.
I did put the tv on and caught sight of Johnny Thompson - now that made the day!

I worked all morning. 3 students, 3 lessons. I hadn't intended to work this Saturday, needing one off for once, but... needs must.

It's nice and sunny here so I might put the washing out now.

I cleaned the inside of my car and had a vacuum around the house. Now cooking lunch and doing some prep for tonight's dinner. Sunny and happy here in Northumberland.

I saw the last one. Well some of it! Seem to remember I got bored and went to sit in the porch and play with the coronation ball I'd been given. It was too wet to go out. There were tins of toffees and biscuits being passed around by the family who had gathered around our (very new) TV.

Watching but have issue with some of the things said ...

"we see active love in the care of our most vulnerable"

"that you be a brave advocate for those in need"

"deliver the children of the needy and crush the oppressor"

Many of our disabled, including myself, went all inter with no heating as we couldn't afford it! The 'oppressor' is our current Govt who care not one damn about the vulnerable and needy. A great spectacle which will have done the tourism industry good, but ....

I was out to lunch with my son and GC but here in Gibraltar they are waving the flag big time, huge screen playing BBC coverage and after we'd sat down for lunch realised it was also being shown on their large tv. I was asked by a local gentleman if i found it emotional!! NO not one bit. I did explain the actual crowning to the children but they were only mildly intetested.

I've done some work admin and emails. I've got the coronation on, but am dipping in and out, and watching the more interesting bits. My work will ramp up in a week or so, so I'm preparing the ground - setting up folders and filing background documents in readiness.

There is a local park that we started going to in lockdown and have used it for every royal event since. It was a lovely day (North here too) my dog had a lovely time in the dog run, watching him run and play with another dog made me smile. So yes thanks Charles smile.

It has been tipping with rain all day. What was the alternative to watching tv?

nadateturbe Sat 06-May-23 14:08:20

Some essential food shopping. Now back home with fibro pains from lifting. Must be nice to have servants.

Its glorious here Monica.

I have watched some of the ceremony but we are having renovation work done. I will watch it later in the mean time I have potted up tomato plants. I'm just having a break from making mugs of tea and coffee.

I had a lovely natter with my hairdresser and went to the gym and popped in the chemist on the way back.

It must have been a 10 miles round trip and I saw only

One decorated house
One decorated pub
4 decorated shops inc hairdresser low key

and no one mentioned the coronation although I expect some customers at the hairdressers might. There was a city centre "do" but I don't seem to live in a town where its a Big thing.

Its been sunny and R3 has some great music on now.

Well indeed nadateturbe..... In the chemist it was remarked that some of the coronation money might better have been spent on the NHS.....

Wyllow3 Sat 06-May-23 14:20:32

Netflix, Monica, a curious but rewarding series called "The Queens Gambit".

About chess.

nadateturbe Sat 06-May-23 14:35:35

Oh well, Wyllow3 my OH very kindly heated my wheatbag in the microwave. 🙂

HettyBetty Sat 06-May-23 14:39:34

Tipping with rain here but walked the 7 mile round trip into the city to do a few errands. Bumped into a friend and had a good natter, went to thank the Republic demonstrators who were having a jolly time although angry and concerned about their colleagues in London.

Meeting friends later for a meal, I doubt very much anyone will mention the king-a-me-jig, it's not really of interest to anyone I know.

Been a lovely day here only a couple of brief showers but mostly sun and not cold so ….
I sorted my daughter s garden out in the morning then walked to the supermarket this afternoon to do a shop and get some flowers ready for a visit to my close friend tomorrow whose been in hospital for a couple of weeks with a broken hip she’s all mended (shame it was her good hip would have been a quick way to get her bad one done)

Watched some this am, but out all afternoon enjoying a coronation celebration in the village where we are staying. Thank heavens the weather is glorious.
May catch up with some more highlights later with our hosts.

Beechnut Sat 06-May-23 17:59:06

Watched the Coronation, then did some sewing including five lengths of bunting for anther celebration.

Serendipity22 Sat 06-May-23 18:01:18

I watched it all then went out to visit a friend who's birthday it is today, she is 91, but when I got to the care home she was in bed sick....

I felt more sad at her being ill birthday or no birthday than I did of missing out on celebrations....

I came home and washed my hair..

It's worth it for me as I'm rather housebound! I just liked the idea of the royal allusion in "the Queens Gambit"when its about chess.

J52 Sat 06-May-23 18:45:26

Went to the butchers then the bookshop. After that did some gardening. After lunch watched a film. Had lovely day.

I flew back to the UK from abroad. I booked my flight to deliberately avoid the back to back TV coverage of the Coronation! I've chatted with people of various nationalities, some of whom expressed having a King and Queen is outdated. I wonder how long it will be before some countries in the commonwealth will want to cut ties with King Charles and become a republic. Jamaica are currently considering this.
