Good Morning Sunday 14th May 2023
(67 Posts)Good morning from a fine corner of La Sarthe where another sunny day is forecast (at last!)
That sounds like a lovely day out, Mick, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Yesterday, we were delighted to see the temperature reach 20 deg as we set off for Lidl in Bonnétable, our nearest town. Another pleasant surprise was to be spoken to in English by the cashier! The young woman seemed pleased to converse and the exchange provoked smiles from nearby customers. DH copes well in French (Moi? Un peu!) and doesn’t expect to be spoken to in English in this rural area, apart from at the vets, where one practitioner from Italy does!
Later, sitting in the garden was a pleasure and possibly contributed to a better night’s sleep for us both with fewer coughing bouts.
The photo shows a roundabout near here, regularly decorated to reflect the time of year.
Every blessing, especially to those in pain or distress. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a misty, cool South Yorkshire. Enjoy your trip today Mick - it sounds lovely. Cooking a family lunch yesterday was tiring but it was lovely to have company at the table. SiL put my new hover mower together and GS cut the grass. DS is coming down today and we are going out for lunch at a favourite pub, after which I have a covid jab booked☹️!
Ash good to hear you’re both feeling better; that’s a very jolly roundabout!
Have the best day you can folks.
Good morning everyone from a dull start to the day here on the east coast of Fife.
I had a hellish day yesterday
My twin sister who lives with me started a fight because of our new cleaner saying she’s not very good but I believe I can train her up to do the work in a professional manner.
She’s only 17 but eager to learn.
I also had hay fever and these antihistamine tablets the doctor prescribed for me made me very sleepy all day thankfully I’m feeling much better today and I’m off to church where I’ll find peace and solace
Have a good day all
Good morning from a misty Bristol. (I keep on having to rethink my “E Kent” daily!)
Lovely roundabout, Ash and less coughing. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Your little day trip today sounds interesting, Mick.
I went to the church weekly coffee morning yesterday, where I met several people and learned about activities. Unfortunately near the end, I sat next to a lady who was fascinated by the sound of her own voice. I volunteered to help serving the coffees. Today, I shall do the same for the post-service refreshments. Church at 10 today.
Heard from DS1 who will be back in less than a fortnight. I can’t wait to see him. He was so helpful after his dad died last year. At least this year his visit will be happier.
Still knitting a nativity from my neighbour. Done the wise man and the shepherds…
Can’t really empty any more boxes until the work in the flat is done, and the furniture changed, but it’s looking a bit less cluttered.
Happy Sunday all; Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩❤️
Good morning from the South Downs - no idea what the weather is like. Yesterday it was glorious in the conservatory but go outside and what a cold wind! So consequently I made an unenthusiastic start on cutting back the Montana but gave up pretty quickly to retreat into the house. The plants hate this cold wind and are looking battered and bruised especially the hostas, poor things - I feel their pain.
Today I will attempt another gardening session, but must clean out the fridge and oven first.
Enjoy your trip mike - we spent an autumn week last year in The Forest of Dean walking and enjoying the autumn colours.
ashcombe I’m always embarrassed not to be able to speak the language of the country I’m visiting, to any great degree, especially when so many have made the effort to speak English. And as for them expecting us to speak to them in their language when visiting the U.K.!! That would be a miracle.
Well enjoy your day one and all.
Mushroom pithiviers for supper (bought puff pastry🤭)
Good morning all and it’s a grey start to the day.
We are travelling up to our cottage by the sea and then meeting friends for lunch at a lovely pub/ restaurant along the coast from us. They are staying nearby for a week and another couple are coming up for the weekend.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone 🌸
Good morning from a very misty village on a Wiltshire hilltop, chilly too.
Yesterday I weeded a border in my front garden and planted an unwanted hydrangea from a neighbour, that’s been in a tub for several years. She’d cut it back to a few inches high and I honestly thought it had died! Let’s see how it goes.
DH took dog for a long walk; as usual he moaned about how she likes sniffing everything, I honestly don’t know what else he expected 🙄, she loves sniffy walks.
I finished knitting a sock and started the second one.
It was a cold wind yesterday, it didn’t warm up until about 5pm so I didn’t sit outside- hoping for better today.
Off for a dog walk shortly, then more gardening I think.
Enjoy the day !
Good morning from a brightening Sefton though a cloudy day is forecast.
A lovely sunny afternoon yesterday spent in DS1's garden with both sons & their families & friends .... a bit of an impromptu garden party. DSiL2 & GD2 popping round this afternoon whilst DS2 is at his am dram rehearsal.
Have a good day all.
Good morning, s somerset weather will be fair from lunchtime, it is dull and foggy right now
What a glorious sunny and uplifting day it was yesterday, I was really busy but uplifting is the word on which I ended the day.
A cat had scrabbled my newly sown carrot and beetroot seeds, disappointing but I have now covered in net and finally decided that I would, in future, only be growing raspberries in that patch
Today is a rest day, planned around the archers and downton. I have been doing a lot of spinning, I have an aim and a lot of beautiful fibre. I am moving around often and stretching my fingers.More knitting than spinning today, interspersed with some light weeding,to preserve my hand joints
Have a good day
Morning from cloudy S Hampshire, enjoy your trip Mick, glad you’re feeling a bit better Ash, the roundabout is pretty.
You sound a bit cheerier gMattie, I’m pleased.
Garden today, the weeds never stop.
Enjoy your day 🦩🦩.
Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset looks bright, there’s the possibility of sun later.
Mr C began putting skirting boards back yesterday while I caught up with some admin. An enjoyable lunch at out little garden centre, of course some plants had to come back with us. Some planting in the afternoon in warm sunshine before a long chat with our friend over the bridge. We’ve arranged to take her out to lunch on her 80th birthday in a few weeks.
Family coming to eat with us later, they will move the fridge freezer back into its place and sort some other furniture moving. Some more skirting to go back first. Nearly there then.
Sounds a good family weekend greyd. Who decorates that very cheerful roundabout ash? Excellent idea. Pleased you’re both in the mend. Enjoy your day mick, sounds a good one. You’re quickly becoming part of a new community grandmattie, pleased for you. Hope today is less stressful multi.
Wishing you all the best Sunday it can be.
Good Morning from the sunny Cotswolds.
Had a lovely day yesterday with family and a bit more today.
Happy Birthday Marydoll 🎂🎉
Enjoy the train ride Mick. We did that one a few years ago but no afternoon tea.
Have a good day all 💐🌞
Good morning from a grey skied Colchester. The forecast sun didn't materialise yesterday. DH and I joined a local history walk in the afternoon and the wind was quite chilly. We hope to do another free Jane's Walk this morning.
Roast chicken tonight.
Love to all 🦩 x
Good morning all from a sunny Black country, have put the towels in the wash love to be able to hang them out.
Mick that sounds like a lovely day out enjoy.
Happy birthday Marydoll I think I've got the day right 🎂💐🍷.
Shall not be doing much today my knee is painful and swollen don't know what's causing it but did not have a very good nights sleep so will rest up and see how it goes.
Best wishes for anyone celebrating, safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.
Enjoy Sunday everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.
Good morning all from the Angus coast. The mist this morning (yes, still here!) Is much lighter than yesterday and in fact the sun is breaking through and there's a patch of blue! Sorry to have been such a moan yesterday - it just really got to me that I am being deprived of one of my favourite times of year with its lovely long evenings. The sun did eventually appear - at 5.15 (I looked at the clock!) - thank you Ekwa.
That sounds a great trip out today Mick, and lovely that your sister stayed overnight. You must have had a wonderful gossipy time!
Karma you always sound so busy and productive!
Glad your coughs are slightly better Ash. I know what you mean about us and foreign languages. I asked DGD how they had got on speaking with the Estonian dance group - "It was fine. They all spoke English!" Is it because we're an island nation that we've never felt the need to learn languages other than our own?
Today I may have a big cook-in after going to the butcher's and greengrocers yesterday. It's always good to have things ready in the freezer for the days when I can't be bothered!
DD and DGD are driving up home later today in the hire car, so I have my fingers crossed for that. Then on Tuesday we are all going to Dancing GD's End of Year Show, something to look forward to.
Have a good day everyone and may the sun shine to ease the coughs and aches and pains x
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where its 8°C, with rain forecast.
Today is my birthday and I plan to do nothing. I awoke to an e birthday card from a longstanding GN friend. Thank you my Sassenach friend, though how you knew is beyond me! 🥰
DH has given me some lovely jewellery and gifts, but as I went to dispose of the bag, I found a pair of earrings, which he had missed, at the bottom. 🤭
Yesterday was so busy, I am very tired today, but not complaining. DH and I have hacking coughs, so a gentle day is probably for the best.
The weather was glorious for the Communion and much to my delight, some of my former colleagues, greeted me with such affection. I was introduced to some staff I didn't know and one said, I have heard all about you, you are still a living legend. I think that may have been a compliment, despite the fact I was always cracking the whip, at the behest of the HT! 😉
I also saw Dollie at the Vigil Mass, who spent the whole time, cuddling in to me. That just made my day. One of my ex colleagues, who is also a friend was there, so we had a good, old natter and catch up.
Today, Babydoll is visiting, as is Dollie. I'm so excited at having my three best girls (DD included) here!
I am not supposed to know this, but DIL1, who is a fabulous baker, has made me a birthday cake. DD let it slip on holiday last week. I shall act suitably surprised. 😉
DH and I always tried to speak Italian on holiday, because we need the practice and more importantly, it is good manners. However, on many occasions, we have had locals wishing to practice their English on us.
Years ago, I was shopping in C&A in Berlin what else would I be doing? and DH asked me what the long conversation, I had with the cahier, was about.
I replied that she thought I was German and asked for the equivalent of my post code. I was so chuffed, because I thought my German was quite rusty and it was pretty obvious, that I was a tourist..
I hope you enjoy your trip Mick and you and your sister have a better day, multi.
Also, fingers crossed, GMB had a gentler day yesterday.
Enjoy your day, everyone.
The early mist is already lifting and a sunny morning looks likely. Church twice today, this morning being a Rogation Sunday service in a farm yard. Otherwise I need to apply myself to my current book club book or I won’t have it finished in time for the discussion at the end of the month. Hope you have a good day out, Mick, and that everyone’s plans work out successfully.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° with patchy cloud. The forecast is for showers.
Ash a very cheerful roundabout. I'm glad to hear you are both feeling better. Mick enjoy your trip. It sounds like a good day. Grandmattie it seems that you are slowly making headway. I absolutely hate living in a jumble of boxes. Once the work is done, it'll make a difference. Marydoll a happy birthday to you. Monk rest that knee. Ice pack?
Yesterday was a scorcher here, relatively speaking. All washings done and hung out on the line. Housework done, mostly. Then dgs2 came round and we had a few hours of mayhem but I wouldn't have it any other way. I visited mum in the early evening. She has been moved ward to one which is more appropriate and my initial impressions are not positive. However I'll bite my tongue for now.
Today I'll clean the windows are there are wee handprints decorating most of them. I'll roast a chicken and do a very small ironing then I'll visit mum at some point. Have a good day all
Wishing you the best birthday marydoll. 🎂🍸🎈
Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve light grey cloud, hopefully brighter later
Enjoy your day out with your sister mick it sounds good
Pleased to hear your both a bit better Ash, the roundabout looks pretty
Yesterday was a lovely warm sunny day here so I was busy gardening all day. No plans yet for today, possibly meeting up with DD2 but will see.
Wishing marydoll a very Happy Birthday! 💐🎉🎂
Hoping everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Taichinan and Ash I love languages! I have amassed a few, French, German, Italian and Russian. I'm currently learning Spanish. I was the Russian speaker on a school trip and managed to make myself understood. I was very chuffed about that too.
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. Happy Birthday 🥳 MD!
I have to pop over the road first thing and hand over a pile of WI stuff to one of the committee who said she’d take it to the meeting on Wednesday . I won’t be there. I’m driving up to Kew later today for a few days to look after my granddaughter. I will say goodbye to my brother and his partner who are going back to Australia tomorrow. I will see them in August at number 3 niece’s wedding. Have a good day.
Good morning from Shropshire where the sun is already shining🌞
Happy Birthday Marydoll🥳🎂🍾🥂💐
I had a lovely day with DD yesterday. We tried a new Italian restaurant which we enjoyed. We enjoyed the play as well.
DGD stayed over and stayed up to watch the Eurovision with grandpa.I went to bed early and read. They are both still fast asleep.Today we will take DGD to her swimming lesson and then to a party. We will pop into town while she is at the party then all back to DD’s for tea.
Hope you had a more restful day yesterday Grandmabatty💐
Have the best day you can everyone🦩
Good morning from a misty North Leicestershire. The sun seems to be trying to break through.
Not much on the cards today - roast beef for lunch and packing up a parcel for DGD2.
Had a disturbed night as a police search helicopter was flying in circles round the centre of village including over our house. Apparently 2 teenagers jumped into the river and only one got out. FB tells me they found the other boy but not how he is.
