Naked pair enjoy meal in non-naturalist pub.

I just realised the title should say naturist not naturalist.
When I saw this on Mumsnet, I instantly thought of Stephen Gough, the “Naked Rambler”. He was arrested/imprisoned for being naked whilst walking, so what’s the difference between him and this pair?
If I’d been in the pub with my immediate family, I know our initial reaction would have been to laugh. But I can also guarantee we wouldn’t eat there again.

Had I been in that pub I’d feel a bit yuk at the thought of bare arses on seats. 🤢 Maybe the publican gave them a newspaper each to sit on.

Absolutely, the hygiene aspect was my first thought! The second was what if my grandson with severe autism and other co-morbidities was there. His reaction would be a lot more blunt and I wonder how much sympathy and understanding would be given to that? We constantly try to educate him as to acceptable public norms..... hands down trousers is very nice but should be kept for private times.... covering our genitals is polite behaviour towards other people.....all undressed bodies are normal but most people cover theirs out of a sense of privacy or modesty. He much prefers to go naked, would that be widely accepted in public? Even in the depths of winter?

I believe nudists carry towels with them when they go to restaurants, etc for hygiene reasons - and possibly to protect themselves also, imagine sitting on plastic seating - especially in hot weather.

Thing is, if they carry these towels around and visit a couple of establishments... do they, erm, sit on the same side of the towel each time, or turn it over to sit on a fresh bit putting the previously-used side on the seat! 🤢

I can understand walking around on a beach, in a field, on a nature trail, etc - and enjoying the fresh air feel on the body, but I cannot for the life of me see the point in carting around a towel in a back-pack with all the other things you need like wallets, credit cards, etc, just to go and sit squashed up at a table - indoors. And, if they have to go to the loo during the meal, they'll possibly be traipsing past your table which will be the same height as their bums - squeezing past it - yuk!

They seem like a couple of self-indulgent plonkers to me. And the pub, instead of boasting its 'inclusivity' credentials , should've asked the other diners / patrons if they minded... if they really want to be inclusive. They're plonkers, too.

If they are ‘exhibitionists’, which I’d assume that they are, then they get a sexual kick out of exposing themselves.

And maybe to children in particular.

SueDomin It was considered in Scotland that being naked in public is automatically a breach of the peace.
He was given ASBOs and then obviously broke them by being naked in public.
I think exceptions were made as in if he needed to strip off - eg at a hospital. I know they wouldn't let him give evidence because he was naked.

So its ok for these people (mainly the male) to expose his genitals (if this is what he did) walking round etc.

But!!! yet if another male was to "expose himself" or walk round town with his willy hanging out, then he would be arrested!

Naturist or not, why one rule for them.

I wouldn't want to go on a pub or anywhere else with nude people about, there are places for them to take up their activity.

No doubt they will be standing naked on trains, buses with
a plaque demanding their rights next.

These 2 had no thought for young children or even adults who don't wish to see other people naked.

Maybe a stint on "Naked Attraction" might full fill their needs.

Exactly! It's not at all hygienic to have their bare bottoms on seats. I always think the same with naked cyclists.

I though indecent exposure was a crime.

Genitalia is genitalia, regardless of whether they're exposed by a flasher in a train carriage as happened to me as a child, or a nudist walking into a pub.

Wayne Couzens exposed himself at a MacDonalds drive-in but it seems it would have been OK if he'd gone inside and eaten at a table.

It's common decency not to go naked in public, particular an indoor venue.

This was on Jeremy Vine show yesterday, with some phone in comments, which were very funny. Especially the story about the soup!

I'm feeling quite mixed about this and don't quite understand why.

I hate to see men walking about with only shorts on in the summer - that, to me, is only for the beach. Yet somehow walking about naked feels like a right to me if they are doing no harm.
As to restaurants - I wouldn't want to eat where I could see bare chests at all - not even the men-in-shorts type (presumably the rest of the body is under the table anyway).

- Then there's the sweaty thing... I don't like the idea of potentially sweaty bodies directly on public seats anywhere to be honest - My gym has hot beds round the pool and I have seen visitors go to lie on them straight out of the sauna (which I find a bit yuk) as there are showers and towels available for guests.

I have also seen naked women sit down occasionally in the changing room at a different pool and I've seen naked children on picnic benches in the past.

I don't think I'd be bothered if they were standing at the bar... but... I don't want other people's bodies on "public surfaces" so what's that about? Why don't I care about arms on the counter or hands on a table though? I know this should be wiped but it's still a body part on a public surface.

I'm fairly careful with hand-washing and don't even touch public door handles if I can help it. I hate touch-screens and keep a sanitiser in my car for after a shopping trip.

Yes, nudists will carry a towel to sit on for dining (even in nudist restaurants apparently) I've looked this up before... but I've no idea which way is "up"! I'd prefer it if their towel had an up-side and a down-side - even on outside seating such as a park bench.

And no nappy changing on picnic tables but letting babies have a run naked is ok (if well sun-creamed up!).

Why can't a pub or any establishment ask them to leave. Surely there's a law on public decency. Apart from the hygiene aspect, I don't want to look at a pair of self indulgent naked idiots. I would have been tempted to throw a tablecloth over the pair.

I agree with the hygiene comments, wouldn’t want to sit on a chair after either of them.
Otherwise, I don’t think I’d be bothered, maybe find it amusing, even if I had my grandchildren, I wouldn’t be outraged, they all know what the human body looks like.

PS I don't want yo see naked babies running about, babies wee and poo when they want.

I have to admit I am a little confused. As I understand it if a man "flashes" himself at me (or a child) while sitting on a train - is that not considered a crime? But the above situation is not.

Can anyone imagine that their children would not have been reduced to helpless giggles at the sight of these two? Far from any sort of ‘shock’, I’m sure that would have been the case with mine.

Exhibitionism, I did my share of skinny dipping as a teen, topless on the beach, these days it’s dangerous - others would fall over laughing.
Most venues would refuse to serve them on dress code grounds, this pub obviously needed the publicity.
