For DM and Boris haters he is going to be writing a weekly column in the DM!

Smileless2012 Fri 16-Jun-23 16:09:40

If the DM want to pay him to write, and people want to read it why does it matter?

Soroptimum Fri 16-Jun-23 16:13:00

Dottynan

I might just start buying the mail on Saturday

And I’ve just decided that I’ll stop buying it 😂

Whitewavemark2 Fri 16-Jun-23 16:13:09

It will be quite a spectacle over the next few weeks and months as he takes on the Tory Party. The splits and divisions will be laid bare.

Smileless2012 Fri 16-Jun-23 16:14:25

It will be his truth.

Soroptimum Fri 16-Jun-23 16:16:19

Please see my question on Ask a Gran forum 😉

Casdon Fri 16-Jun-23 16:24:42

Whoops, he’s done it again.

The rules clearly don't apply to him, do they.

Did anyone ever say no to him when he was a child?
Rachel? Are you on GN?

Dottynan Fri 16-Jun-23 16:46:08

Soroptium. Whoops I forgot to put a big smiley face on mine

I can accept comments about BJ possibly lying as he was apparently sacked for lying by The Times, but some of the snobbery on here is awful. Frequently from those who profess to be socialist too.

Because he writes lies and his lies have been very influential.

If every one of his columns came with a 'This is a work of fiction' warning it might be OK...

What snobbery is that, maddyone?

Dislike of people being fed lies is snobbery?

maddyone Fri 16-Jun-23 16:50:52

…I’ll stop buying it

I might download it. It’s free online.

maddyone Fri 16-Jun-23 16:55:02

No Maizie it’s not. Comments about the intellect of DM readers, for example about his use of classical quotes. My husband has a Classics degree too, and frequently refers to routes of words etc. I’m just wondering how many on here making disparaging remarks have a First Class degree in Classics from Oxford University. Many things BJ is, but stupid he is not.

^For DM and Boris haters...^

... haters, hate. This is such emotive terminology.

I do not like Boris Johnson nor trust him - for all the reasons many others have enumerated. But I do not hate him - and would even defend him if he was being attacked for the wrong reasons. I don't join in the ridicule about the way he looks, for example, because I believe that is shaming him for something he basically can't help.

I also think the DM is a megaphone for all sorts of dubious ideologies - sexist, racist... all on 'mute' of course. But I don't believe all those that read it are racist or sexist - people read the paper for different reasons. My NDN reads it (she's not online) because it's "compact" and she likes reading about celebrities.

Can we temper the rhetoric a bit? Hate is a very strong emotion... people kill because they 'hate'.

I'm not surprised BJ is going to pen something for the DM - I think he's on a mission, and true to his form, he will blame others for his own failings and probably tell us that he's a victim of a witch hunt and a deliberate attempt by his colleagues to reverse Brexit. He's a flamboyant personality and writes cleverly, and he will garner a lot of support,

But... I do not hate him just what he stands for, and his duplicity. He believes he's been stabbed in the back - but will ignore the fact that he's also been one of the back-stabbers previously.

Being critical is not hatred.

Exactly.

I think the snobbery of suggesting members of GN are less than discriminating in their choice of reading matter.
And that from somebody who has frequently been known to quote or post links to the Mail Online.
Or perhaps that doesn’t count?

maddyone Fri 16-Jun-23 16:57:46

Thanks Foxygloves
At least someone could see what I was saying.

maddyone Fri 16-Jun-23 17:03:17

I don’t like the use of the word haters either. It’s frequently used to describe posters who dislike the things Harry and Meghan have done. It shouldn’t be used about people who read the DM, or dislike Boris Johnson, or dislike Harry and Meghan. It shouldn’t be used at all in my opinion, but I’m not the language police so I suppose it isn’t up to me. It’s deeply unpleasant though and makes me wonder about the user.

Iam64 Fri 16-Jun-23 17:12:21

It’s been increasingly clear the DM is pro Johnson. He’s keen to earn lots of money so they’re a match made in heaven.
Johnson will continue to lie, obfuscate, paint himself as the victim of a witch hunt and use his influence to work against Sunak. He’s totally lacking in ethics or morals, believes normal rules don’t apply to him.

Having a first in classics is insignificant. I’ve not seen any posters accusing Johnson of lacking intelligence, just lacking decency. Callistemon, he grew up with an emotionally abusive, neglectful father. His mother developed mh problems, no doubt exacerbated by Stanley Johnson. Being told No occasionally or frequently wouldn’t repair the impact on his developing personality caused by the parenting which combined with his over developed sense of his own importance to give us Boris Johnson

GrannyGravy13 Fri 16-Jun-23 17:13:04

I agree Foxgloves and maddyone

This kind of remark too:

He'll probably have to limit his vocabulary for DM readers, no Latin tags

As if all non-DM readers are intellectually superior and all have at least a first degree in Classics
😀

If DH buys it tomorrow, strictly for the TV guide of course, I'll have to scour it for Boris's column.
I need a laugh an a bit of cheering up 😂

Callistemon21 Fri 16-Jun-23 17:17:02

and ....

Casdon Fri 16-Jun-23 17:18:48

Boris did not get a first class degree by the way, he got a 2:1.

I always thought he was a better journalist than a politician..

When he could remember not to make stuff up!

Callistemon21 Fri 16-Jun-23 17:20:44

By accounts I have read he was very fond of his mother so I cannot understand why he wanted to honour his abusive father with a knighthood.
Perhaps it is telling, though, that he is still that small boy trying to please a bullying parent.

I meant a first degree before they went on to a Masters and PhD in other subjects more useful to today's world.
