For DM and Boris haters he is going to be writing a weekly column in the DM!

Thanks Casdon for the reminder, a 2.1 . Didn’t Stanley say he got a first in classics - so would be an excellent PM

Callistemon, I suspect you’ve got it there, the small boy still trying to please the bullying father

I think its clear that the owners of the DM will take an anti-Sunak stand and major decision as such have been made.

Taking him on is de facto saying we don't care about his previous lies and racism in his newspaper writing life, nor his record of lying to parliament and integrity: feel a weary sense of here we go again: the non elected forces at work in our democracy (owners/opinions of newspapers behind the scenes) wielding power.

Iam64 Fri 16-Jun-23 17:25:11

That’s a dispiriting byt accurate comment Wyllow3

Boris did not get a first class degree by the way, he got a 2:1.

I meant a first degree before they went on to a Masters and PhD in other subjects more useful to today's world.

It was maddyone who said it was a first class degree. He doesn’t have a Masters.

Callistemon21 Fri 16-Jun-23 17:31:39

Perhaps we should buy the Radio Times instead
On principle

His first column is in the Daily Mail online now. It’s a good read and is about weight loss injections and how they didn’t work for him. A very truthful account.

Mollygo Fri 16-Jun-23 17:48:14

Looks like I won’t need to buy the DM to read the column. It’ll probably be quoted on here, thus spreading any lies BJ does put in.

MiniMoon Fri 16-Jun-23 17:48:54

My DH buys the DM, but only on a Saturday for the TV supplement and I like the puzzles. I don't think either of us actually read the paper.

The ultimate oxymoron? “Truthful” and “ Boris “ in the same sentence? gringrin

Okay! Not what I’ve heard but I defer to you. Nonetheless any degree from Oxford is worth a Masters. I know this because my son did get a First Class degree from Oxford (not Classics though, Jurisprudence ) and he told me. It’s hard to get into Oxford and hard work once there. It isn’t for the faint hearted. You can call BJ whatever you like and I won’t argue, but lacking in intelligence he is not! And I have seen posters make that claim in the past. They’re just wrong.

Wyllow3 Fri 16-Jun-23 17:59:11

MiniMoon the Independent on Saturday has a good TV guide for the week and pages and pages of puzzles. It doesn't "over dramatise" news or take a party political line. Middle ground
I like it as it has snippets of all kinds of interesting news inc positive bits.

Wyllow3 Fri 16-Jun-23 18:03:56

Intelligence doesn't bring wisdom, nor integrity. Indeed, it can be used in malicious or harmful ways.

I was a scholarship girl at Cambridge from a Tech High School and met the equivalent Bullingdon club types who feel entitled and frankly don't give a damn for anything but themselves.

If the DM want to pay him to write, and people want to read it why does it matter?

Because it has a huge influence on some people- it's not about what they read, it is how it influences the way they think, and the way they judge and treat others, foreigners, immigrants, asylum seekers, single mothers, those in need of social/financial help, and so on.

I know Foxygloves, two members of my family went to Oxford too (Jesus, as for most of the Welsh), it’s tough to get in for sure, and they are both academic. Boris definitely got a 2:1, although apparently he was not happy about it. A first degree from Oxford has high status, it isn’t equivalent to a masters from elsewhere though, my family members both went on to do a Masters, then one a PhD, he didn’t leave education until he was 28.
I’ve never said Boris was lacking in intelligence, but that’s a very different thing to integrity.

Casdon Fri 16-Jun-23 18:08:48

PS he said David Cameron was a girly swot because he did get a first!

He was stitched up, it won’t do the people who did it any favours though, they won’t get onto office again. Same with Schofield, he was a very big irritation, he and Holly, acting like a couple of naught teens. He lied because he had to. If it were a straight man and a younger woman, no one would bat an eyelash. Not a fan of either but I dislike back stabbers more.

25Avalon Fri 16-Jun-23 18:15:44

I have read so many nasty comments on GN over time regarding DM and Boris so I used the word haters for those people - in inverted commas might I add. It was very much tongue in cheek.

Who do you think ‘did it’ Allsorts?

Smileless2012 Fri 16-Jun-23 18:26:21

That very much depends FP on whether those who read what he writes, read it because it's inline with what they already think/believe, or if they're entire thought process is based in what BJ writes, which I very much doubt.

Thanks, primrose. I went and read it on the strength of your recommendation.

It was certainly more interesting than the constant pusillanimity spouted about him on GN.

No, I'm not a Boris fan and don't read the DM much though, to be fair, over the years I have read an article or two that I thought was good after coming across a sensible person's recommendation.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 16-Jun-23 18:36:24

Boris certainly isn’t lacking in intelligence but I suspect his dislike of detail and his enjoyment of socialising combined to ensure he didn’t get a First. An opportunity thrown away, just like the job he always wanted.

OK, own up! Who’s been googling. 😂😂

HousePlantQueen Fri 16-Jun-23 18:50:20

Well I hate Johnson, I hate liars and I hate traitors. I wish him ill. As to his silly column in the Daily Mail....how the (self proclaimed) mighty are fallen. Silly writing for silly readers.

maddyone Fri 16-Jun-23 18:51:32

I know I was wrong, so I apologise for that. I don’t know why I thought BJ got a first class degree, but for some reason I did, but I was wrong, he got an upper second class degree or 2:1 to most of us.
I did say that a degree from Oxford is considered to be equivalent to a Masters, and I said that because my son told me that and he went to Oxford. I will check tomorrow if that only applies to first class degrees or all degrees from Oxford.
So I hope that clears everything up.
