I’ll record it all and then can fast forward through the rubbish bits of it, of which there are always quite a lot.

There have been some great acts on in the past which I have really enjoyed. Paul McCartney, Barry Gibb, Dolly Parton and who could forget Shirley Bassey in her evening gown and wellies.

Callistemon21 Fri 23-Jun-23 09:57:38

Paul McCartney was just terrible, an embarrassment, sorry, Kate1949

Loved Dolly 🙂
I hope Elton will be as good as last time we saw him live.

I've always wanted to go to Glastonbury but not sure I could cope with the crowds and it would have to be luxury camping.
I will watch some of it, pick and choose the bands/people I want to see.
I've been to Twickenham and Cardiff to watch rugby internationals, Wembley to watch football and Wimbledon. I used to be a season ticket holder at Crystal Palace. I love music and sport.
My eldest daughter has been to Glastonbury in the past and still goes to smaller festivals.

My brother and his wife lived just outside Wells in Somerset and for years were given free tickets by the Eavis family to compensate for the disruption. They often acted as stewards to help out as well. I used to be so jealous. They absolutely loved it.
Today they live in Wells centre no free tickets anymore and my brothers health not too good but they can site in the garden and still hear the music.

No, i just don't buy into all the hype. But each to their own. Enjoy

Visgir1 Fri 23-Jun-23 10:31:09

Yes I will watch.. Tried twice and never got lucky with tickets.
Did IOW festival a few years ago, loved it.

My Nephew was lucky this year to get tickets.

Interesting experiences, I’ve not been to Glastonbury, but twice to Download, was Monsters of Rock, IoW festival and Garock in France.
No test match, but one day internationals and I used to have a season ticket for Southampton FC, before I got an allotment.

That made me smile Jaxjacky, as I’ve now reached the point where if I go away for more than two days I worry about the plants not being watered!

I would rather stick white hot, sharp objects into my nether regions...

Looking at the line up there’s also a Glastonbury University where Alice Roberts and Janina Ramirez are speaking. And a debating area where Nazanin Ratcliffe is speaking. Those are the areas that I’d love to go to if I wasnty too old and creaky to attend. I remember when Tony Benn used to do Glastonbury every year, too. I don’t know how they organise something so huge. Another thing on my bucket list that I’ll never get to do is Burning Man. And I used to ask a friend of mine to take me to Cropredy on his boat but he never would sad. I might get to Southwell next weekend to see the Morris Dancing but won’t be going to the folk festival. It used to be free online but I think you have to pay now.

Damn! I missed the Foos. Forgot they were on and was watching Gogglebox. 😡

dragonfly46 Fri 23-Jun-23 22:22:27

Yes I shall be watching - would hate to be there but loved smaller venues in my youth. Will be watching Louis Capaldi and Elton John but missing George Ezra, Roxy Music, Queen and many others.

Claretjan Fri 23-Jun-23 22:30:09

I will watch on TV. Looking forward to seeing Cat Stevens on Sunday.
Pink Cosmos I had a ticket for Knebworth in the early seventies too but didn't go. I can't remember why!

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 23-Jun-23 22:44:55

I haven’t been to Glastonbury but will watch bits on the television. I went to the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival when I was 17. The one with Hendrix, Joan Baez, Doors, Ten Years After, Emerson Lake and Palmer… My sister went to Knebworth when Led Zeppelin played. I was so jealous but I was living in Seychelles at the time.

Press Guide on the remote, choose BBC2, press back and pick up Glastonbury 21.00 - 22.30 and you'll find the Churnups 🙂

I disagree Callistemon. He can do no wrong for me. He's 81. The crowd loved him and so did I. Ok the voice wasn't great but he's an icon. In my opinion obviously.

merlotgran Fri 23-Jun-23 23:03:01

Thanks, Calli.

I used to like him Kate 🙂

The voice has gone - time to give up.
It's not age, some still have great voices in their 80s.

I thought PM’s set was good thanks to the support from his mates. He would have been awful on his own,

I suspect Elton will do the same.

MayBee70 Fri 23-Jun-23 23:12:13

I’m not a great Paul McCartney fan but thought he was brilliant last year. As were The Pet Shop Boys. But they were both removed from catchup quite quickly. I’ve never liked Foo Fighters. I don’t find any of their songs very memorable. Sparks with Kate Blanchett were brilliant.

glammagran Fri 23-Jun-23 23:12:21

The last music festival we attended was the Green Man in 2018. In 2019 I’d developed a dodgy hip so we said we’d sit that year out. Then Covid hit and now we realise the time has come to call a halt. End of an era. 2 elder children have never attended one. DD1 darkly said she’d consider it if there was a 5* hotel in the middle. DD2 has been to Reading festival and would go to another but cost too prohibitive atm.

Kate1949 Fri 23-Jun-23 23:13:17

Well its different points of view. Not sure why he should give up if he enjoys it and people pay to see him, which they do. He never had a great voice, just an OK one but what a songwriter.

They’ve played together for a long time, haven’t they, and were very tight knit.

Kate1949 Fri 23-Jun-23 23:17:21

Yes they can afford to surround themselves with the best musicians and backing singers.

Yes, he needed support so it was better.

I'd be surprised if Elton needs others to support him.
