Anyone beenw; there this year, or festival’s you’ve been to/going to?

TiggyW Sun 25-Jun-23 00:09:55

Don’t forget that Axl Rose is 61! He’s doing ok. He’ll be getting his bus pass soon.
Slash has to be one of the best guitarists ever - along with Richie Sambora! 👍😎
Trivia fact - apparently Slash’s mother had an affair with David Bowie.

Thank goodness it's over. I've had it on because I saw them many years ago and used to love them. It was horrendous. However there was a moment of joy when a young chap in the audience was filmed trying to get his lighter to work. Trying being the operative word.

I had such a crush on Axl.

There's now a topless singer on. I rather like the song. Great voice. But I can't stop looking at the nipple plasters.

Christine and the Queens. I've done some googling. Fabulous performance.

Best act I've seen this year.

We've had it on the tv. Guns n Roses were good but some of the other artists not to my taste. Bit odd the girl with the nipple plasters...what's that all about. Looking forward to Elton John tomorrow.

Christine and the Queens brilliant, I enjoyed the energy Guns and Roses brought to to the stage, Slash magic as ever, Axl not so good.
I'm not a Rick Astley fan but his set with the blossoms was very good.

Don’t forget Tony Iommi!

We watched Jacob Collier last night, I think on BBC4. He was wonderful. A 28 year old from Finchley who was at Royal College of music and signed by Quincy Jones while he was there. Can play many instruments and writes songs, often jazz based, with complex harmonies and key changes. Really good pianist. His backing group, particularly the 3 lady singers sang difficult harmonies beautifully. Had never heard of him before!

kittylester Sun 25-Jun-23 09:55:32

DH is a huge Jacob Collier fan - I must remind him.

Bridie22 Sun 25-Jun-23 10:34:09

Let's not forget Hendrix!!

I'd have loved to see GnR at their peak. Slash still has what it takes, but I think Axl should have bowed out gracefully some time ago.
I think it's unfair to criticise Lewis Capaldi. Anyone who saw the recent documentary about him would realise just how much he is struggling with various issues, from his mental health to his Tourettes. He's very likeable and down-to-earth and you could clearly see how much love and support he was getting from the crowd. I don't think he'd want to let anyone down if he could help it.
And I thought Lizzo was amazing - her music isn't normally my cup of tea, but god can she entertain a crowd. She was phenomenal.

Looking forward to Elton tonight, hope we get to hear all the old songs though!

Deedaa Sun 25-Jun-23 14:13:43

I wonder if a crowd of grannies with lap tops is the target audience for any of these artists grin

I did criticise him because he has been letting his fans down and will let down more, money saved now lost; perhaps it is his management company or agent who are to blame for pushing him into committing himself to such a schedule when he was clearly not fit.

No, I didn't watch the documentary, to be honest I'd scarcely heard of him until I knew young relatives were talking about going to one of his concerts.

I've heard of Peter Capaldi!

Callistemon21 Sun 25-Jun-23 15:31:40

money saved now lost
Money hard saved, spent on tickets, train/bus fares, accommodation now lost.

Norah Sun 25-Jun-23 15:34:42

We'd much prefer RIAT at our advanced age.

I think that’s a strong possibility.

Do you have any understanding/experience of mental illness? From reading your previous comments on this thread, I’m guessing not.
It was heart warming to watch the crowd step in to help Lewis Capaldi through his set but heartbreaking to see such a genuinely talented young man struggling but doing his best not to let down his fans. LC’s performance will, I hope, have given encouragement to millions of young people battling mental illness.

Callistemon21 Sun 25-Jun-23 15:46:06

Yup.

As I said, he should not have been there or booked n for any gigs if he is not well.
Unfair on him, unfaircon his fans.

Jaxjacky Sun 25-Jun-23 15:47:05

What is RIAT Norah please?

Definitely. Many of the headlining acts are from the 80s and 90s. Elton John has been knocking around since the 70s. We have grown older to their music!

Glastonbury is not just for youngsters. In fact most of the youngsters I know aren't particularly interested in it!

nadateturbe Sun 25-Jun-23 15:55:50

Cat Stevens 🙂

Pushing him into all these gigs when he clearly is not up to it at the moment will only make things worse because he'll feel guilt now, too, merlotgran.

We seem to be enjoying though!

Lewis Capaldi is hilarious on Tiktok.

The reactions to his beautiful but terribly sad song/ video, Wish You the Best have made me decide I'm not watching the video.

An old postman and an old dog will only lead to heartbreak

Watch at your peril

kittylester Sun 25-Jun-23 15:59:20

We went to lots of Elton John concerts in the late 60s and early 70s. He even turned up himself to some of them.
