Living in the moment

I read this recently and thought how appropriate it might be for those of us with health worries, poorly or even fading loved ones -and of course our beloved pets who have no concept of tomorrow, just now, today.

“ We may not have tomorrow, but we do have today, and life is oh so very short. So please- come sit with me now and let us share these precious moments we have together.”

Foxygloves - a lovely quotation, thank you.

Thank you. Good to remember the shortness of life!

👍🏻😘

Agreed.
I think we need to appreciate what we have in the here and now, while accepting that we can't control it.

Thanks.
Another death announced this week in our U3A . She was so fit too and younger than me . ..

I do believe you should live in the day, but I tend to be a worrier, never about my health though as I know how fortunate I have been.

Lovely quote, Foxy.

Thank you Foxygloves. This brings tears to my eyes when I think of all those now gone and life was too busy to just sit and take time.

Judy54 Sat 01-Jul-23 14:30:23

Yes so true Foxygloves Yesterday is history tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift that is why it is called the precious present. Possibly a Chinese proverb. We do indeed have to share precious moments together. Thank you for your lovely post.

If only I could bring back time, change things, or stop worrying about tomorrow
I do try

Thank you for sharing this. I try to capture the moments in my garden by smelling the flowers and breathing in the time scent of day from the hot dry smell of sun to the after smell of rainfall. Beautiful.

Thanks Foxy. Today may be all we have. We

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 16:06:36

Pressed too soon. (How ironic.)
We have all failed to remember that in the busyness of life I’m sure.

DH was taken from me far too soon. We were always rushing around with children and work and we had 'no time to stop and stare'.
Treasure each moment.

We found my friend and neighbour dead in bed 2 weeks ago,he was 51.
Although he was born with spina bifida ,and a wheelchair user he was otherwise well, norhing conclusive found.
An abrupt ending,a timely reminder to spend each day as though it is your last RIP Jim

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 17:52:34

I remember your post about that. I hope you and Jim’s family are coming to terms with such a sudden loss. It is not for us to know the hour …
RIP Jim.

Thankyou GSM

Chin up and KBO friend. 💐

It is hard, isn't it, to balance enjoying a busy life and stopping to cherish what we have.

Very thoughtful post, Foxy.

Primrose53 Sat 01-Jul-23 18:26:54

We have been trying to do just this recently. Husband’s health has not been good the last few years so I MAKE him come out and have a walk/meal/drink/holiday. He is quite happy doing jobs at home but I tell him they will still be there when we get back.

Callistemon21 Sat 01-Jul-23 18:29:12

Yes, thank you Foxygloves

We must make sure to keep in touch with family and friends and not keep thinking "I'll do that tomorrow".

My mother used to say "Tomorrow never comes because when it does, it's today".

Primrose53 Sat 01-Jul-23 18:32:12

We know too many people who have gone too soon and not done half of what they wanted.

We knew a man who worked at the same place since he was 15 until he retired. He was a workaholic and thought the place would collapse without him. He was planning all the things he was going to do when he retired including travelling. He retired and was dead from a massive heart attack within the week and within a very short time nobody mentioned him. As we always say, nobody is indispensable but he thought he was.

Grammaretto Sat 01-Jul-23 18:41:24

That's so sad Primrose but I'm sure he's remembered even if a cautionary tale.
DH died nearly 3 years ago and I miss him but at least we had a few years together when we hoped the chemo might keep him for us a bit longer, and it did.
We didn't call it a bucket list but we did several things we'd always meant to do.
No regrets.
