Distasteful TV adverts

I agree speki4eyes. And the thing that worries me about the incontinence pads advert is that it sends a message that this is normal for women. (unless very elderly). It isn't normal and medical help is needed. Instead of buying the pants, first consult a doctor and get treatment.

Totally agree, I complained to the ASA about the organic tampons advert where someone says they are 'a bloody mess down there' it's disgraceful.

I just don't want to see the ads for pads showing drops of blood there is just no need for it.

Watching the women's test match one afternoon last week, at one point, literally every ad break had the erectile disfunction advert (the one with the beautiful tango music). I had no problem, I was watching alone, but I was hoping my son was watching with my 7 year old DGD...

It's positively cringe making in the incontinence ad when she's sitting on somebody's shoulders at the concert. There's also the Irish actress sitting on the loo trying to sell more incontinence products - is it necessary?

We never see adds as we record all programmes with adds and then flash past them when we do watch .

I agrée with you Blondiescot, if there was less embarrassment there would be more discussion, sometimes encouraging people to seek help for easily sorted problems, or medical intervention for more serious issues.

We do. But you'd be forgiven for believing that men don't suffer from incontinence because I don't see any adverts aimed at them. A male relative of mine was quite relieved to discover that there were incontinence briefs designed specifically for men. He had no idea, and suffered in silence because of it until I pointed it out to him.

I entirely agree with the OP. I do not want to see anything that relates to bodily functions. We are all aware of how bodies work so don't need to be shown it in graphic detail. I find these adverts disgusting. Like everything else in my opinion, advertising has gone downhill in recent years. Sometimes I wonder if it's a deliberate attempt to shock or embarrass. I agree with the poster who was watching TV with a child - it is very awkward. If this sort of thing needs to be shown then at least make it after the watershed. But preferably not at all. And I am actually put OFF the product rather than buying it.

Agree about " the bloody mess down there"' It's totally unnecessary and offensive, it surely was thought up by a man. I thought we had an Advertising Standards Agency to vet these adverts and decide whether they are suitable or not. I don't see adverts for incontinence pads and portable urinals for men, which I think proves my point!!

I don't worry about the mention of bodily functions etc although some ads are unnecessarily graphic I think. Why is it always assumed though that incontinence only affects women. There are products available to men but this is never mentioned in the advertisements.

good point re doing the pelvic floor exercises however - there is one advert set in a yoga or pilates group, and the teacher flashes the pads at the end, and it's the very place they would have been doing pelvic floor exercises!

But in general, adverts that show matters that previously there has been shame and individual suffering about is a good thing when done well. Reminds me of my Nan, who was ashamed even at a gurgly tummy and would apologise profusely - all so unnecessary.

This TAMPAX advert during one of the "Britain's Got Talent" shows raised a few hackles.

I don't think we should be over-coy about these things but I do cringe at the 'street culture' approach to advertising such products, just to show the "with-it" credentials of the company.

My 8 yr old gson was told off at school a while back.

He does have ADHD so he says what he thinks!

Also hate to see all close up adds with people who are eating or have food in their mouths, there is one where a woman licks the tomatoes ketchup off her arm, then shows her big open wide mouth eating, and the one that used to show KFC finger licking good....yuk yuk

I'm glad that we Brits aren't as uptight as we used to be , but I hate the ads for incontinence pads and the one that shows blood from periods .

As for erectile dysfunction -admittedly it's an amusing one , but it's on far too early .
