Distasteful TV adverts

I know I should post this somewhere appropriate but the sheer effort of finding something relevant is tedious.

I just want to vent about the Kleenex advert where a young woman openly sneezes into the lens of the camera. I have a horror of people sneezing without a tissue or handkerchief and this advert sickens me so much that I have to look away or switch off.
Also the one for incontinence pads where the actor claims to be "releasing her pee, letting it all go!"
Do we really have to be disgusted by these gross and offensive adverts, which in my case, only make me vow NEVER to buy that product?

My grandson was with me a couple of years ago and whilst watching The Chase an advert came on for medication for piles. He said to me ‘Nanny. if you get an itchy bottom you can use that cream’ 🤣

Love it! 😂

I worked for 43 years in residential home for the elderly where nany of them had to wear incontinence pads and pants and I can state that these pads will not absorb 12 hours of pee.

I should also like to add that urine is not a bit like water and actually smells but there is jo comment in any of those adverts about that.

I fairness, I don’t think that ad is targeted at fully incontinent women - just someone who has stress incontinence when exercising/coughing/sneezing.
Not an ad I care for, but I suppose it serves a purpose and I’ve seen worse.

One of the adverts that I cannot stand is people shaving their armpits! Please no!

... what's with the silly advert where a man has a mouth on his forehead... and is talking to it?

I don't even know what the advert is promoting, I jus stare at the stupid face and try to work out what on earth possessed anyone to think this kind of grotesquery is good material...

I once emailed a television station because they were showing a quite erotic commercial during family viewing time(after school and early evening). At one time there were rules in place, but I believe they are gone now. But apparently there was quite a bit of outcry over said ad, and they moved it to a later time slot.

I talked with friends the other day about this subject, we all agreed adverts have become dire. Give me a witty one any day.

Witty requires talent and that costs

There is a dreadful ad for Lucozade. They are trying to be 'down with the kids' in most of these adverts now. Two teams of basketball players start leaping crazily round the court as if they're high on something. Presumably that's what Lucozade does to you so goodness knows what they put into it. I remember when it was something your mother bought at the local pharmacy when you were off school with the 'flu.
What annoys me is that Lucozade is a British brand so why does this look like an American ad?

I guess the Lucozade isn't gross or offensive, just very annoying! But I agree there are too many offensive ones featuring pee, poo and blood, doing things which should remain in the privacy of your toilet.

Yes Chestnut glass bottle, mysterious orange cellophane wrap.
Made you feel better just looking at it🤒

The problem is if the sales figures go up post shocking ad. the company will be encouraged to make the next ad with even more shocking images.
If the figures go down, the same reaction.🤔🙄

The woman with her ‘bulky pee pads’ who is ‘just letting it all go’ is beyond ghastly.

Going down the disco😂😖

A while ago people complained that sanitary towel ads showed a blue liquid, and said it's time to be realistic about the fact that women bleed when menstruating.

I do think I prefer the blue liquid, though.

Cumbrianmale56 Mon 06-May-24 19:29:57

I think we can do without advertising for certain products, particularly when people are eating or children are watching. It's embarassing and distasteful.

She definitely is, and although not in the least bit precious or prudish about bodily functions I don’t need to see “Poonami”, blood, urine, sweat or people’s armpits close up on my TV! Also I don’t care about people’s impotence issues nor do I want to see sex toys! Perfectly capable of finding out about all these things as, and if, I need to.

I worked for 43 years looking after people who were incontinent some doubly. I heartily dislike the way these adverts treat it like the way when one says I can hardly get my pad off tbe floor as if its a laugh and a joke. I can assure you from someone who has to clean up when some one who cannot do anything about it needs changing. It is not a joke.

Deedaa Thu 16-May-24 20:05:20

I record most of the stuff I watch and fast forward through the ads but, on the rare occasion when I do have to sit through the ads, I can't imagine being tempted to buy anything. There don't even seem to be any nice cat food ads now and I'm certainly not going to buy a new kitchen because someone shouts at me.

What about the man in the bath discussing funeral plans with his wife ! She is coyly hiding behind the half open door , while ringing up !
Probably thinking they’re never going to need it !

Ali08 Fri 17-May-24 05:19:21

Wait til they start showing us how to put a condom on 🤣🤣

I think adverts are taking over these days.

Isn’t it dire! I’m sick to death of all the funeral plan ads especially the smug Derek with his Sun Life policies.🤦‍♀️

I cover my ears and look away when that woman in the office farts. Think it’s an Andrex one but never view it to the end. I thought it was about taking her dog into work and it pooed on the floor, but as I say, I never watch all of it….
