Starting by saying that it was too tedious to go to the sheer effort of finding a relevant place to post this complaint was not a good start. Frankly I don’t care if it helps folk use a tissue or sort out minor incontinence. On the other hand maybe I am mildly irritated by posts to trigger more moans!

You might not have noticed - but we are also having a bit of fun with these adverts.

Thank goodness I record everything so that I can watch when I want to. Not seen any of them. I hadn't realised the ads were so awful, as I usually fast forward through them. If I want to know where to get something, I'll Google it.

I agree with you all. I don't want to see or hear about letting urine go or seeing someone sat on a toilet going on about pads or tampons! As you say, these people really need to see a dr or nurse practitioner. In adverts now, anything goes regardless of time of day!!

Some people may feel that as the subjects of these adverts are. ‘ normal bodily functions ‘ it’s fine to demonstrate them on tv, but I’m sure they would still choose to perform the needful in a public toilet with the door closed, rather than having people watch.

Advertising Standards Agency is there to complain to.

One tip I was given years ago was that if anyone tries to intimidate you verbally, just stare at them as they spiel away and imagine them sitting on the loo.
We all have to do it; it is a great leveller 😁

I've just, today, seen an advert for Viagra - the woman was sitting at her computer (on a Zoom call perhaps?), the man was behind her, in their kitchen - doing thrusting movements with the vacuum cleaner. Shortly afterwards, she's at the computer again, hair all messed up, and he's in the kitchen, vacuuming but looking pleased with himself.

The one for recycled toilet paper (just can't recall but it has a horrible name) that shows nothing but female rear ends. Do males not use toilet paper?

Hate them. I don't want my 6 year old granddaughter (or, for that matter, my grandsons) having a vision in her head of her Grandma peeing herself. Or does she really need to know about periods and erectile disfunction at her age? I don't have any hang ups about bodily functions but there is a time and a place. Age of innocence no more. They see too much too young.

No-one actually showing anybody taking a sh** in an advert!

Interesting range of views here. Personally, I think there is a big difference between the bad manners aspect and the genuine public health ones. I don't like gross eating depictions, or sneezing into camera. But making clearer statements about menstruation and incontinence and products which can help is, for me, a good thing. I guess that's also true for erectile dysfunction but I dislike the ads. I wonder if the advertising standards on these topics could do with a review?

My male relative was so relieved when I told him there were specially-designed incontinence pants for men - he had no idea... and I only discovered them by accident whilst I was waiting for a prescription to be made up at the pharmacy and riffled through the nearest shelving whilst waiting - where I saw them piled up in packs.

Because he wasn't aware of the product, he thought it was highly unusual for men to suffer from incontinence and felt a bit miserable about it. Now, he realises that it is in fact not at all unusual, and has cheered up no end!

But the advertising industry gives not a fig about such things. But there's a market there that's being ignored.

On a lighter note...there used to be an advert for constipation which always featured a woman. Obviously men don't have that problem!

I'm assuming the thinking is that the advert will "go over their heads" and only adults will understand the scenario. Which it might well if they're only around 4 or 4 years old. But older children, like your granddaughter, are more perceptive - and certainly curious.

In fact, it's really a rather ridiculous time to show the advert - it's when most people are rushing around, home from work, getting kids to bed or preparing dinner, etc. It would make more sense to air the ad later in the evening when the adults might be sitting down to watch the TV!

Hope Netflix don’t get ads, it is good to watch films without constant interruption. We used to pay for Foxtel but then they got more and more ads so we cancelled it. Anything you have to pay for should be ad free I reckon.

I think someone already mentioned Kevin Whately (Lewis) doing Equity Release ads, but what irritates me even more is to hear him talking as if he’s actually a bona fide employee of the company - he refers to ‘we’ - do they think we’re completely stupid?

Same happens with some other ad - IIRC Joanne Lumley and those cruises to Antarctica.
At any rate, I find this aspect especially irritating.

Dislike the pee pants ad where the women to to a concert and one is sitting on man's shoulders. Don't think any woman needs graphic (blood) pictures or a woman sitting on a loo. Hate ads with children being handed something by an adult and just taking it and running off. Surely ads could have them saying thank you. Gambling ads are appalling and I think they should be banned. Daisy, daisy, daisy ad makes the girls in ad look silly. But there are some very good ads out there. Particularly like some of the animal ones.

Actually that one where she’s sitting on his shoulders makes me giggle. I always think what a shock the poor bloke would get if she’d forgotten to wear her ‘pee pants.’ 😂

My grandson was with me a couple of years ago and whilst watching The Chase an advert came on for medication for piles. He said to me ‘Nanny. if you get an itchy bottom you can use that cream’ 🤣
