I’m watching a sore place on my leg. It bleeds and seems to be taking ages to heal. I’m giving it another week and then will send a photo to the doctor. Better safe.

welbeck Thu 06-Jul-23 17:48:37

if it's been more than 3 weeks, do it now.

Just over a week so far🙂. I have had a very treatable form of skin cancer on my face which was treated very easily indeed - although I am very grateful to the scientists who developed the cream. Brilliant stuff.

I can’t say much more than I already have on the subject but I’m glad yours went well.
Here’s mine

Well done. I had similar removed from the side of my nose a couple of years ago. I was well numbed up so didn’t feel a thing. However, the swelling that evening was so astronomical I had to cancel a couple of outings. I would have put people off their food!

MCSshop, that is great news!!!! Thanks for sharing that .

My father had a few of these removed from his back and face, with no disfigurement or recurrence, and that was over twenty years ago.

I had a BCC removed from my cheek about 20 years ago, the scar was very neat and soon settled nicely into a crease aka a wrinkle! No further issues for me either, thankfully.

I’ve had a few basal cell carcinomas removed over the years.
Worst was on nose and as I don’t have a fleshy nose the surgeon said he might have to take skin from behind ear to graft on nose. However, I was delighted that he had just enough and no more to do the job. Very pleased yours went well.

Worth making your appointment now. I have similar on my leg and am currently awaiting my “2 week wait “ fast track appointment which I have next week 5 weeks after GP request. Think mine is a SCC

BCC is the safest carcinoma to have

BCC was a secondary cause on my mother's death certificate.

She refused treatment and it ate away half her face, encroached into her eye.

Please don't take any chances. safest carcinoma, is an oxymoron!

If you have had one BCC, sadly you are more likely to have another one. So, do not take any chances, if in doubt, take a photo and send to your GP.

Quite right. They used to be called Rodent Ulcers because they eat away.

I used to work with a woman in the late 70s who had returned from living in South Africa where she got badly sunburned. Over a very short period of time I witnessed the rodent ulcer going from a small mark to a massive oozing hole in her nose.

I’ve had 5 removed from my nose, ear and shoulder. It looks like I may now have 2 on my calf.

What is even sadder is my mother was a ward sister and knew exactly what is was, but was in denial.

Having spent five years of my twenties in the tropics, I have loads of sun damage which has included a malignant melanoma which was safely removed by the plastics department of a leading cancer hospital. Last year, three BCCs were removed (all at the same time) by the plastic surgery consultant of Macclesfield hospital. Now it's factor 50 for me.

inishowen Fri 07-Jul-23 12:17:40

I went to my GP a month ago with a new mole which bled. I'm now on a waiting list to see a dermatologist but thanks to NHS I could be waiting years.

Grannyjacq1 Fri 07-Jul-23 12:26:34

Having lived in Malaysia for 3 years as a child in the 60s, in those pre-sunblock days, I have recently had suspicious 'lesions' removed. The two on my legs turned out to be non-malignant - something called a keratoacanthoma which is supposed to be found on old men's heads, apparently! Now one on my shoulder is under investigation - biopsy and excision scheduled for the end of the month. It's probably fine - but always best to get these things looked at and removed if necessary.

Cagsy Fri 07-Jul-23 12:27:04

My sister has one on her nose too, waiting for surgery for months, but she knows it’s not dangerous at least.
