Another rant.
Group to which I have belonged for many years meets monthly; has few rules, but the understanding is that once a dates are fixed, which they are well in advance, it is not fair to ask for it to be changed because it clashes with other engagements. (this happened frequently in the early years usually from the same members, until it was agreed it was unfair.) People are asked to make their own choice between which engagement they prefer to attend. We rotate the days of the week for meetings in order as everyone has other commitments: choir, book group, leisure classes, tennis etc etc.

Now two members have arranged to go to a concert on the date of the next meeting and pleaded for the meeting to be rearranged, as they particularly want to it as well. Co- operated with the first suggested change, to the previous day, although didn't approve; opened a second email an hour ago to receive a message announcing the first change didn't suit some members so it has been rearranged again, and 'as you are the only one who can't make that date which suits everyone else unfortunately you will have to miss it'. No suggestion that the two who have broken the unwritten rules make a choice.

Can't believe how furious I am. Nothing to be done, but so angry.

Eazybee, I understand your frustration. I remember ranting on here a few years ago about my book group cancelling the day before, and bumping the meeting back by a week. I was hosting that time, and had already baked and booked the evening off since I was working a night shift. I was pretty ticked off...

We've come to an agreement since, that we do our best to stick to the set schedule. If we have very low numbers available, then we will just have a longer meeting the next month.

I remember a buffet-style restaurant in Malaysia which charged for food left on the plate. I think there was a flat rate for the food, and you could go back for more if you wanted, but if you left any you had to pay extra.

Oh I approve of that! Except they'll have to excuse me cutting any fat off if it's not crispy grin It's the one aspect of buffet type restaurants I dislike, too may people pile their plates as high as they can and then don't eat it. Not keen on those people who take 'extras' from the breakfast buffet to be squirrelled into bags to provide lunch either, but at least that's not wasteful.

My rant is a conversation with a Dr on the phone last Monday, when he said I need a gtn spray for angina, and if it didn't help with my chest pain after 10 minutes, to call an ambulance.
When no prescription was passed to the pharmacy, I enquired with the surgery. It seems the Dr had forgotten the conversation with me and did not fill out the prescription!!
Of course, no apologies!!!

Rosie51 Thu 14-Sep-23 19:44:01

Oh eazybee that's disgraceful! How they can say that to you beggars belief. Everyone bar those two could make the original date, it should have stayed there. I can understand your anger, you must feel very frustrated!

Doodledog Thu 14-Sep-23 19:48:09

Oh, that angers me too, eazybee. How hard can it be to keep a diary and stick to your commitments?

I run a couple of social/activity groups, and one works smoothly. We agree the date of next meeting at the end of each one, and if someone has something on we just move the date. It's always something that can't be changed, as people know the meeting date and don't agree to random social engagements, so it's wedding anniversaries, holidays, daughter's 21st - that sort of thing.

The other group is also monthly, but the date is always being changed, often at the last minute because one of the members has accepted another invitation knowing that it clashes. It's so disrespectful, as the host of the meeting has often gone to a lot of trouble, and the rest of the members may have refused other offers to keep the night free. I would just say 'sorry you'll miss it, see you next time' but the other members are more conciliatory than I am and prefer to rearrange then moan later.

The overwhelming incompetence of this Tory government and Sunak's predecessors as PM.

Taichinan Fri 15-Sep-23 18:57:16

Oh I agree Grantanow and would add the totally inept opposition.
I am so thoroughly disenchanted with the lot of them that I shall not bother voting in the next election - and that from the granddaughter of a suffragette! Oh, don't get me started!

UPS have sent me an invoice for £5 for printing an invoice. How do they expect to get paid if they don’t send me an invoice? Will they now invoice me for printing the invoice for the printing of the invoice?

As someone who rented for a number of years my rant is about people (usually neighbours) who are paying a mortgage and think they are a cut above renters.

No you are not a cut above renters. Unless you are mortgage free you have a huge debt which you are paying off to the bank/building society and that doesnt make you any better than me. I dont hesitate to tell them this.

Neighbours who go whingeing and snitching to the LL about matters which are not actually a breach of the tenancy are likely to get ignored by the LL. Anti social behaviour - unless you have lots of hard evidence - is very difficult to prove.

Rosie51, at a hotel in Cuba, years ago, there was actually a pictorial sign forbidding food going into bags! The only place I’ve ever seen such a thing.

They could have done with one of those in a Prague hotel we once stayed it - dh and I watched, metaphorically open mouthed, as four very smartly dressed middle aged people* at a nearby table transferred a mass of food from table to their bags - rolls, ham, cheese, pastries, yogurts, fruit - you name it. They did keep glancing round to make sure no waiter was watching.
*not Brits, thank goodness - I’d have died of shame!

My rant is the cost of gluten free products.
My son has coeliac disease and has to eat everything glutenfree.
His wife is wheat intolerant so she too eats glutenfree food.
They gave two teenagers who are always hungry.
They are a low income family and still have to somehow find the money for gluten free food.
Surely the government can help in some way.

You used to be able to get a prescription for gluten free flour and bread, staple foods, I think, geordiejoy but nothing which is considered non-essential.
I'm not sure about pasta.

As long as you have gf flour you can make a range of recipes. I use cornflour anyway (usually gf in this country) for sauces etc.

Callistemon21 Sat 16-Sep-23 20:01:36

If the boys don't need gf it's worth buying ordinary pasta, bread etc for them as it's cheaper.
Separate butter dishes, of course!

Callistemon21 Sat 16-Sep-23 20:02:08

And a separate toaster with a cover and strict instructions

A horrible yappy little dog over our back fence that barks and whines from about 7a.m. to around 5.30 pm every Thursday - presumably the owners leave it out all day. I don’t know the people, never clapped eyes on them but I wish they would leave the thing inside.

Can you report it to the Council or to the Dog Pound?
It can drive you crackers, we had one near here, not yappy but it barked all day every day for years as they just threw it out into the garden while they went out to work. Occasionally a neighbour would take it in for a while.
Then they moved, thank goodness!

Hell yes!
I used to really enjoy the games page in this group, but it seems to have been taken over by 'Limerick lovers'. There are, at least, 6 games on the go all to do with limericks, which usually I don't mind, but do we really have to have so many??
And also, if a game has reached the 1,000 I do wish admin would put a line through them, or highlight the 1,000, so we can see straight away that we don't need to click on it unless we just want to see the outcome of the game!!
We are in desperate need of new or other games in Gnet.
----
Rant over.

The b!!!! roller blind I am trying to put up in the tiny window of the bathroom...I swear to...!!! I say I will never ever buy one again but yes I did, I've quite lost my temper with it about 30 mins ago. angry

Doodledog Mon 18-Sep-23 20:42:26

Did you manage to get it fitted, bikergran?

NanKate Mon 18-Sep-23 21:23:27

The moving Ads on GN, one midway down and when I delete it a small ad pops up bottom right. It usually takes two or three taps for me to get rid of it.

When these intrusive ads first came on GN someone contacted HQ to say how annoying they were and GN said ‘we are dealing with it’ or suchlike. Clearly this was just to just a delaying tactic when GN had no intention of getting rid of them. ☹️

Right now it’s the voice-over on Channel 5 (The Inheritance)
