Good Morning Tuesday 12th September 2023

I volunteer for our local Air Ambulance who encourage Gift Aid. My donations are made in DH's name as he is the tax payer.
I use a phone app called My Charity Shop where I can get a bar code for the charity to scan or even print my own labels.
Our shop puts a barcode on each item which links to the donor.

We donate to Headway who also put stickers on as we drop stuff off.

PS. It's sunny here!

Regarding donation bags. I have stickers for the Cancer research bags with my Gift Aid no.
BHS put on the stickers when the collect them.
For this reason, they are the only charities, to which I donate bags.
Just be careful about your tax. When I ran out of sick pay and had no income, I had to inform the charities that I was not paying tax.
Otherwise, I would have been liable for the gift aid claimed.

A late good morning from a cold dull Eden.
DH was meant to walk today but we got moving too late and it is very cloudy. The nights are much more bearable as it is getting cooler.
Those old railway lines in the Borders reminded me of treats when we were young taking the Waverley line from Carlisle to Waverly Station. The ride itself was a holiday as was the one that ran from West Cumbria along Bassenthwaite Lake to Keswick,now part of the dual carriageway.
A rejig of today's plans as I was expecting to be by myself and do some family History.
Happy days.

I Gift Aid for all my charity bag donations- clothes to Mercy in Action and books to our Oxfam Bookshop.
It adds up. A year or two back I had a letter from Mercy in Action thanking me for my donations, saying how much they had raised (a startling figure north of £700) and over £200 in Gift Aid.
I was delighted because although I give to both charities, I have to admit I don’t donate as much as that in money!

Thanks Marydoll and Blossoming for the info. I knew about gift aid for cash donations and claim it for my monthly pledges, but as I’ve been dropping stuff at the same shop for weeks, nay, months now, it’s the first time Gift Aid has been mentioned, so I was a bit puzzled.

Morning everyone from a very wet Sherwood Nottingham. It's been raining heavily since last night. Just as l stepped out to walk to the bus stop to get to choir. All I've heard all night was drip drip drip still quite warm. Not going out may be some housework things have been neglected as I've not been well for a while . An actual doctors appointment next week. Hope he doesn't send me for tests again. Iceland to deliver later. They've sold out of ice 🍦cream. I always read about everyone's doings but don't often post .
I hope my brother on holiday in Spain and my youngest sister in Miami are having better weather. Have the best day you can.

My favourite pastime of spending a day in the garden is ahead as it’s tidy up time of various plants which are just about hanging on but are now a straggly mess. Welcome coffee breaks in between.

Morning all from a Dunblane where the sun is shining. Life in the Scapa household is back to normal after a long weekend with the DGd’s staying here. The have been safely returned to their parents who had a lovely time in Krakow. The cafe and taxi service have been closed for now. DH and I will spend a quiet day I think recovering! They are no bother and behave very well but it is just the faster pace of life they go at and the many activities they take part in. Must be getting old🤣. Hope everyone enjoys the day the best they can thoughts as always with those with worries or are I’ll.

Yesterday the plumber came to look at the en-suite shower. It’s rather tired and in need of some TLC. A bit like myself this morning. He asked some questions, took some measurements, made lots of notes and is going to let us have some samples and a quote. The shower tray and screen need replacing, there is a leak and a damp patch on the ceiling of the cloakroom beneath. I hate disruption but he assures me it is not a big job.

MrB is at the dentist, routine checkup so hopefully will be back shortly. No real plans for today apart from checking out a firm to replace the windows.

I have a gift aid declaration with a couple of charities Georgesgran. As I am a Uk taxpayer they can claim 25p for every £1 I donate, either cash or value of goods.

They are able to claim money back from HMRC for your donations. I have it for BHF and Cancer Research donations. You would be amazed at how much more your donations make.

Good morning from a cool, overcast Durham. It’s dry now, but the path is still wet from yesterday’s and overnight rain. After coffee yesterday, I dropped another couple of bags off at the local charity shop - they have some very ‘superior, snobby’ ladies there! Not very grateful nor interested, although I was asked if I had gift aid. Anyone here know why?
A nothing day, so a bit of laundry first - dreadful noise before I realised I’d left 4x£1 coins in a pocket! Might venture into Newcastle, as I could manage new shoes for a forthcoming holiday.

Goodbye morning from North Yorkshire. It’s been raining since late afternoon yesterday so I don’t think I’ll be gardening today. I have lots of pots that need attention.
DD2 is safely back home after her run on Sunday. She was pretty stiff yesterday so it was a slow walk to the station!
I’m going to make a start on the windows today. Local history society this evening.

Such busyness on here this morning. Enjoy all your book clubbing, tai chiing, gardening, exercising, singing, travelling, swimming, baking and volunteering.

I am sitting upright in bed still, after taking a weekly tablet. I’ve thirty minutes before I can move. Great excuse to be lazy.

Today will be spent tidying I think, putting away summer clothes probably, we’ll see where the day takes me.

I believe you all think I’m braver that I really am. The children are supervised by their mums. I just keep an eye on the door for escapees and help putting out and tidying up. Nevertheless, the noise is ferocious and rather tiring.

Volunteer phones yesterday were odd, more like directory inquiries, people asking all sorts of odd questions.
ENT appointment today re my nosebleeds, parking will be an issue.

I had wanted to go home yesterday to attend my art group today, but DHwanted to stay til tomorrow, so we’ve compromised. Yesterday we did an interesting bus trip, but both DH and Sis IL relied on me to find the buses they wanted which was a trip to Pickering, then the Coastliner to Whitby,then te Coastliner back to Scarborough. I got the first bus wrong and we had an hour to wait! They checked further buses!! The scenery was beautiful, we went through ‘heartbeat’ countryside and not much had changed!

Good morning from a cloudy Suffolk with rain forecast later. I’m hoping this forecast is right.

I had a lovely time with my friend yesterday although the main purpose of my visit,applying for our Indian visas, couldn’t happen. In spite of the website implying that you could apply for a tourist E visa for up to a 30 day stay, up to 120 days in advance, the website wouldn’t let us input our date of arrival.

Another try on another day. We had a good catch up and lunch in the pub at the bottom of her road and on the local train to her station,I met someone I knew from my working days.

Today I must spend reading papers for a whole day Teams meeting. This is a monthly commitment I have which links with my earlier career and I very much enjoy it and hope my many years of working in the same field makes a useful contribution.
