Ahh love her / disgusted by her - is she your Marmite? Saw the interview on ThisMorning...she's made the front cover on Vogue...at 82
She can be very hilarious but loves her fart talk -was most interested in her mint front botty therapy....what do other GNs think?

I agree with all those who have described her exactly as she is, a vulgar, crude, and in my opinion, talentless woman.

Not my cup of tea at all.

hear, hear, horrible woman

AmberSpyglass Wed 13-Sept-23 22:25:51

I’ve been lucky enough to see some of her theatre work in the 80s and 90s and she definitely has talent in spades - what a shame that women her age don’t get the kind of roles anymore that can showcase it.

Doodledog Wed 13-Sept-23 22:32:53

I think she has talent, and she may be a very nice person. I just don't think I'd want to be in her company for more than an hour or so. She was very funny in Blackadder, and as Nurse in R&J. I've seen her in other things, and she is good when she is playing a role. I think when she is 'playing herself' she is OTT though.

I can understand your crush, AS - she does have lovely eyes.

Luckygirl3 Wed 13-Sept-23 22:34:14

She was superb in Ladies in Lavender - spot on for the part.

FoghornLeghorn Wed 13-Sept-23 23:03:40

I think she’s pathetic. Like a young child who has learned some naughty words and is out to shock. Revolting woman.

Callistemon21 Wed 13-Sept-23 23:11:24

She doesn't need to shock with her puerile language like a six year old boy who's just learnt that words like poo, bum and fart will shock Nanny.
She's talented and I like her and her work when she's not showing off like that.

Over-indulged as a child? Or perhaps it's a form of Tourette's Syndrome.

👍 She makes me laugh. She speaks/enunciates perfectly imo.
I loved her first book and I’ve ordered he second book.

I love her voice, just dont like what she voices.

Apologies for grammar.

harrigran Thu 14-Sept-23 09:03:40

Horrible, uncouth woman. I change channels if she appears on the TV.

An appalling foul mouthed old bag!

😂
Straight to the point

I adore her. Frankly, I have a bit of a crush. Once you overlook the bodily functions stuff - and honestly that just gets overquoted, I think - she’s brilliantly insightful and hilariously funny. And although she’s not typically beautiful, I think she’s absolutely gorgeous.

This is a joke right?
Shudder.

dogsmother Thu 14-Sept-23 09:42:42

She speaks as she sees. No room for niceties. Only problem she has is she doesn’t really care about who cares. That makes me laugh.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Sept-23 09:49:10

Oreo, I think Amber’s view might be different because she is attracted to women, as is MM.

Callistemon21 Thu 14-Sept-23 09:52:49

I like listening to her voice and perfect enunciation until she starts talking rubbish.

annodomini Thu 14-Sept-23 10:18:36

I can't stand Marmite - much prefer Vegemite. However, I am ambivalent about Miriam Margolyes, On the one hand, she is a fine actor in a variety of parts. On the other hand, I wonder if she, at 82, is trying to get away with being the girl she always has been, but didn't exactly go public with it, until recently. Could I get away with it? We're almost the same age. Would I want to have a public persona at which audiences laugh but secretly feel slightly ashamed of laughing. Think about it. If a much younger woman came out with a string of expletives and references to bodily functions and excretions, would it be regarded as funny or embarrassing? I know she talks a lot of sense and I'm with her politically, but, I can't really like her as she presents herself.

suzikyoo Thu 14-Sept-23 10:56:42

To use a good ole Aussie phrase: 'rude, crude and unattractive' !

Harris27 Thu 14-Sept-23 11:03:39

Not my cup of tea. Can’t stand her. Marigold hotel thing put me off.

Bea65 Thu 14-Sept-23 11:10:00

Yes I do like her voice and she can be entertaining but I too, would be intimidated by her in a 1-1 situation or conversation- GrannyGravy I didn’t mention her weight/shape re Vogue photos..they liked her face😀

mbody Thu 14-Sept-23 11:44:34

Revolting old lady

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Sept-23 11:45:28

I wouldn’t use the word ‘lady’.

Eloethan Thu 14-Sept-23 11:54:32

Luckygirl What a fantastic review - so interesting and insightful. Is writing your profession?

As for Miriam M, I do like her very much, although sometimes her outrageousness irritates me. For me, her humanity balances out all those irritants.

leyburn Thu 14-Sept-23 11:55:00

A hideous creature, can't stand her.

Beau1958 Thu 14-Sept-23 11:56:31

I find her intriguing. She says it as it is and I admire her for that and not caring about what people think, I wouldn’t dare say most of the things she says but i think them. Loved her on the trips to Scotland with Alan Cumming she had so much empathy towards his troubled upbringing. I really like her.
