Good Morning Saturday 16th September 2023
(66 Posts)Good morning from Cornwall where there's rain. My plants certainly need it.
An amazing, quiet, almost painfree day yesterday because I stayed at home for a change. Lopped trees, watched Poirot, sewed lace on a dress, mended my swing seat cushion, chatted to my neighbour about her brambles and sawed down a giant echium, now well dead. So relaxing. May do similar today, minus the echium-sawing, as that was the last of them for this year. However, four have self-seeded into a plant pot, so those are next year's monsters.
Re bus travel, I had assumed all bus passes provided free travel at any time of the day as ours do but obviously it's down to the different companies across the UK. When I lived on Merseyside local rail travel was free too and that saved so much money.
Good morning Mick and all who follow.
We had a wonderful time at the wedding in Dorset, but boy was it hot! Then up to North Devon where we also had a great time, MzOops and GS also joined us for a couple of days, before GS goes to University for the first time.
We haven’t had wifi and resisted the urge to use our phones as ‘hotspots’, so I’m not up to speed with everyone, but I hope we all have a good day and thoughts are with those who are unwell or caring for loved ones.
Good morning. I’m in Cheltenham - a short break. Yesterday was retail therapy. Today we are meeting friends for lunch in the Cotswolds.
I hope everyone here has a lovely day and is enjoying the lovely Autumn.
Good morning, it’s dry here in south Gloucestershire at the moment.
Yesterday I did more gardening, mainly tidying up. The soil is bone dry, I have started watering it then adding spent compost from pots to try and bulk up the fibrous content. I’ve been doing this for 25 years now so it must be doing some good I hope.
Cleaned through the house too so was pretty tired by the afternoon.
Today more gardening bits although it’s meant to be showery 🤞🏻 I think. I will walk the dog first thing too.
Have a lovely weekend everyone 🌹
Good morning from a warm corner of La Sarthe, following a very sunny day yesterday which saw us still sitting outside until nearly 9.30 pm.
Before it was too hot, we shopped for contraband for our return to the UK, which included the usual boxes of wine and bottles of fizz, all from Lidl, from where we also bought a lovely dress for under 10€! Today is our last full day here.
You did well to be so productive but remain pain free, Mizuna! And you called that a quiet day!
I’m glad you enjoyed your trip away, including the wedding, Oopsadaisy1. Good luck to GS at university.
Enjoy your break in Cheltenham, RosesandLilac: a lovely city!
Happy weekend, everyone! 🦩🥰😎💐🦩
Sorry, it’s Rosalyn in Cheltenham! 🙄
Good morning from a non descript day down South.
Going to a boring meeting today. My choice. I dont have to go.
But want to see the probable future direction of the "company" I volunteer for.
If things get too boring, I will leave half way through the day.
Good morning from a wet s somerset, cooler nights now and I need to change my sheet for a light duvet
Not such good sleep last night but probably a bit too cool in bed. I went to Wells yesterday, my car needed a run and I needed a trip for some bits, back by lunchtime as I always do everything early. Pattern alterations were finished in the afternoon
I am going to finish my wardrobe sorting later, did a lot of removals yesterday, all toiles and time to go, after having enough wear to `prove` the patterns.
Back in the sewing room later too, very enjoyable as I am onto slow sewing on good fabrics now. Often in silence as I sometimes cannot stand radio babble
Have a good day
Good morning from Bristol. The dawning sky is pale “ashes of roses”.
mizuna, your energy puts me to shame. All that in one day? Yes, bus passes differ according to the LA. Neither Kent nor Bristol have offered me free trains, either.
Yesterday was interesting. The young man teaching Spanish was very energetic and kind, quite different techniques to my Kent tutor; the students all pleasant. One gave me a lift home. Two others live in my little town. We did a lot of revision, given loads of homework. I enjoyed it.
I’m still fiddling, finishing my quilt. Slow work as it is mostly hand sewing.
Church coffee this morning.
Sending gentle thoughts to the poorly, sad and in distress. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩
Good morning from an overcast South Downs. It is forecast to be sunny and hot at 27c but we shall see.
Just making my morning cup of tea, before showering and taking the dog out whose tummy is better - in fact seems to have gone into reverse, but I’m not complaining.
More bulb planting to be done and cutting down. Put out washing before the forecast rain all next week. Autumn is coming!
Hope everyone is ok and coping with what life is throwing at them.
Peace and harmony to all
Morning Mick, morning All from an about to be wet corner of Somerset. Very threatening sky confirms the forecast.
Fortunately Mr C soon became bored supervising my cleaning of the conservatory frames and left me to it. We tackle jobs very differently! It took me most of the day around a phone call or two, strangely I enjoyed it.
Must head out to top up supplies this morning. The question is do I go while it’s quiet and risk rain or wait until this afternoon and the forecast dry weather. We’ll see.
Goodness mizuma your quiet day sounds exhausting. Are you setting out tomorrow ash. If so wishing you an uneventful trip. Pleased you had a good time oops.
Right, I’ve decided a quiet early shop is worth getting wet. Wishing you all the best day it can be.
Good morning all from a grey North Leicestershire.
Today is DS1's 52nd birthday!!! We are taking him out for breakfast - bonus! More kitchen restoration when we get back.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning everyone from a cooler and cloudy north Kent although the forecast is for another warm day later on.
Yesterday I walked down to DH’s allotment so he could show me what he has been up to. Looking very neat and tidy; he’s been busily harvesting and tidying up so it looks very ‘back endish’. He likes me to come down and inspect every now and then just in case I think he does more chatting than working - I think there’s a lot of both!
Today we are meeting with friends for lunch; it will be good to catch up with them and hear their news.
Hope everyone has a good day
Morning all
Popping out to local shops for some good bits first thing. Then we have GD & GS here this afternoon whilst DD4 and DiL go to Bluewater, our reward is they are taking us out for dinner tonight.
Have a good day folks 🙋♀️🦩
Good morning all and it’s a bit dull here in Essex, but sun is forecast for much of the day.
I’m off on another coach trip today, this time to Cambridge Botanical Gardens. I’m looking forward to it.
Hope all your days are ‘good’ ones 🌻
Good morning from Shropshire.Yesterday was a lovely sunny day but not such a good forecast today.
The plumber came at 8 and had left by 9 with the problem sorted. We spent the morning unpacking, mowing the lawns and doing the holiday laundry. All sorted by lunchtime so the afternoon was spent reading.
DGD had written a speech to apply for the school council and was voted in by her peers. She is so delighted as are we all as she is a lovely kind girl but not overly confident.
Today we are going to the garden centre to get autumn/winter bedding plants. We will have our free coffee and cake while we are there.
Safe travels Ash and olddudders.
Have the best day you can everyone🌺🦩
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I’m still in bed so no idea what the weather is like. OH is off to visit his bees today. I will be in the kitchen doing some prep for our lunch tomorrow. Some very old friends are coming for Sunday lunch. We have known them for nearly fifty years! They love my puddings so I’m making Delia’s chocolate bread and butter pudding. It is extremely rich but that’s how we like it! Leg of lamb is also on the menu so I took it out of the freezer last night. Why is lamb the most expensive meat now? There are millions of them running around the country side. Have a wonderful day, especially those of you with difficulties.
Good morning all, it’s grey and damp here in South Lanarkshire.
My goodness Mizuna, that would be a busy day in my book.
Nothing much to report here, yesterday’s childminding was uneventful apart from there being a joiner in the kitchen all day rejigging cupboards to make space for a dishwasher. That made feeding everyone at lunchtime rather awkward.
DH and DS managed two trips to the dump so we can now see some floor space between the mountains of boxes.
Work today, hopefully it won’t be too strenuous.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning from a brightening Colchester. Dry with a high of 24° today.
DS is home for the weekend and his laundry is in the machine. DH and DGS1 have just left to fish for the day.
I need to pop to Aldi for a few bits, otherwise a quiet day.
Love to all 🦩 x
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very grey South Yorkshire but there is no rain in the forecast. Had a good walk round two of the lakes in the country park yesterday with two of my neighbours, stopping for coffee halfway in the little coffee shop. There are plans to build a proper restaurant it seems which will be welcome. Not much planned for today except to go out and buy some meat for a Sunday lunch and maybe sort out my wardrobe. I’m hanging on to too much stuff I’ll never wear again. And I might clean the car.
Have the best day you can folks.
Good morning from Kent. A lovely warm day yesterday, I think today may be the same.
DGD's are still in bed, youngest has dancing later, then we are going by bus to do some shopping and have lunch.
I hope you all have a pleasant Saturday xx
Good morning from a cloudy and dull Black Country, but still warm.
Sat outside in the sun yesterday with brother and SIL for an hour. MrJ arrived home around 6.30 from Bristol, so we went out for fish n chips!
Early evening today is my family and friends birthday meal. There will be 18 of us. Should have been 20 but 2 are on holiday! My 70th is next Wednesday, but we are flying to Sicily on the Thursday.
Wishing you all a lovely Saturday
'Lopped trees, watched Poirot, sewed lace on a dress, mended my swing seat cushion, chatted to my neighbour and sawed down a giant echium.'
I feel I must explain, for fear that I'm giving the impression I'm Superwoman-on-Crutches. My quiet day revolved around my patio, so I reached the tree branches with long loppers (stood up, walked two paces), sawed the echium (climbed three steps), sat to mend my swing seat (no paces), ditto sewing on the lace, ditto talking to my neighbour. Poirot was three steps down and three paces back into my flat. So I hardly moved, which is why it felt like a quiet day!
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cloudy and grey
Think I’ll have a trip into town this morning, I’ve not been in for ages and I need to collect an order from M&S. After that nothing planned so I’ll probably be in the garden later if it’s dry.
Enjoy your trip to the Botanical gardens Gingster I’ve been a few times when I’ve been in Cambridge and always enjoyed it.
Well done to your DGD Susan such a good achievement 👏
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
