Ponchos

We occasionally get a Cotton Traders catalogue in the post, as my husband once bought something off them. They are offering a free womens' poncho if you spend an amount of money. Do women still wear ponchos? I've not seen one for years.

I haven’t seen ones for years either littleannie
We certainly don’t have any come in the charity shp and that’s usually a guide to what’s worn and what’s not worn
Perhaps that’s why they are free 😂😂😂

I have a rain poncho - find it useful on holiday

Gosh I’ve been looking for one, they’re quite trendy! I’ll take a look there.

I’ve still got one from years ago it’s so warm and fluffy but I’ve only worn it indoors on a few particularly cold evenings for a long time. Can’t bear to get rid but maybe it’s fashionable again.

Gillycats
Just had a quick look on the website. No mention of it in the main text, but there is a small red banner across the bottom of the page advertising it. That's on my Samsung tablet, may not be there on a laptop screen.

I love them

Is the free one a plastic rain cape? (Rather than a woollen poncho). I have a knitted one from White Stuff - bought a couple of years ago - useful in Spring and Autumn.

I have a soft grey cashmere one from The White Company, and several other everyday ones. They are an easy transition item before coats are needed.

Free one is tartan fabric.

Thank you Littleannie!

Actually, looking again it's wide panels in shades of grey and beige, not tartan as I originally said.

Me too!
Mum crocheted one for me and I wear it loads.

Oldnproud Fri 22-Sept-23 14:56:52

Five or six years ago, when I started doing regular school pick-ups for one of my dgc, lots of the mums were wearing what I thought of as ponchos, though there was a much wider variety of styles than I remember from my younger days, with some more formal than others. Very nice a lot of them looked, too - I quite fancied one myself!

Always remind me of Clint Eastwood!

dotpocka Fri 22-Sept-23 15:03:34

jax i wore them in the 70 s and people said iwas being clint!!!!

karmalady Fri 22-Sept-23 15:03:56

I don`t like ponchos at all, they are frumpy. I had two poncho patterns, I made the knitted one, wore it a couple of times only in the house and donated it. I sewed another one and could not like it at all. I will never wear one and will never buy or make one

My aunt in Ireland made me an Aran wool poncho in the 1960’s when I was a teenager and I loved it . I wish I’d held onto it. I saw a similar one in an Irish knitwear shop recently for £130.

I crocheted this one last winter. Whenever I’ve been out in it I get asked where I bought it.

I also made a fringed one in alpaca yarn and got so many bids on it I made a great price!!

They are great for driving in as they are much less bulky than a coat.

Mollygo Fri 22-Sept-23 16:57:29

I made one years ago and wore it often. There were a lot of them around in the naughtiest too.
Now the only poncho I wear is the waterproof one that bought at Puy du Fou. Great for walking the dog in a downpour.

StacyAnna Fri 22-Sept-23 16:59:23

Frumpy? I think not!

Fleurpepper Fri 22-Sept-23 17:06:51

StacyAnna, where is that one from, please? Looks great.
