Hello kitchen people. Gosh, so many of us have got various ailments and injuries. At least my covid is beginning to clear except the constant tiredness. I remember that from when I last had covid. I’ve managed to cook a Diana Henry recipe for dinner - sausages, bacon, onions and potatoes layered in a casserole with parsley and cider. A one pot meal. I’ll have a small bottle of Prosecco with mine. I had one last night and it helped me sleep. OH is out tonight so I’ll continue watching the Thick of It for the third time round. Love it. Have a good evening.

annsixty Tue 17-Oct-23 17:53:48

Good evening all.
I want to say I hope you are all well but I know that just isn’t happening so I hope you are all as well as you can be and improving all the time.

Sued I hope you have a lovely holiday “across the pond” and enjoy your family for a short time.
I am just so tired all the time, I had my Covid jab yesterday, no sore arm or anything, just tired as usual.

Coffee with a neighbour this afternoon, her H died 3 days before Christmas last year and her birthday is on Sunday, it seemed to be upsetting her and she talked about his last day a lot.
I am taking her out for lunch early next week to commemorate her birthday.

Out in the very cold air this morning on my sturdy scooter, I had a letter to post but was glad to get back home for a warm drink.
Pork fillet with a mushroom and shallot sauce tonight, I am having to really make myself cook these days.
I just don’t enjoy it anymore or want to eat when I have cooked.
Old age is a b….r.

Grannmarie Tue 17-Oct-23 18:10:13

Ladyleftfieldlover and Annsixty, your dinners sound delicious, enjoy!

LFL, you've reminded me that I have a box set of The Thick of it, I was a great fan of Malcolm Tucker! Glad you're getting over Covid now.

Ann, you are a good support to your bereaved neighbour, very kind. I'm glad you're getting out and about on your mobility scooter. Maybe try your dinner on a tea plate and freeze your meals in small portions until your appetite picks up again?

brook2704 Tue 17-Oct-23 18:56:10

We’re having exactly the same dinner as you this evening grannmarie, air fryer salmon and roasted veg, one is my favourites.
Sorry to hear you’ve got covid, Yia, hope you’re on the mend soon and you get your gp sorted too- really frustrating!
Safe travels SueD pleased you got those jelly babies You’re probably well on your way now I hope
I’ve had a busy day, the gym this morning and a volunteering session this afternoon - all went well with two different groups of medical students. I don’t know who was more nervous though, them or me as it was quite a difficult scenario with a lot to remember. I’m think Im definitely ready for a rest this evening!
annsixty take care, 💐

SueDonim Tue 17-Oct-23 19:26:43

No apology necessary, Blossoming! I like these funny little chats. smile I’m sorry you’ve had a fall, that must have been quite a shock.
Poor you, Yia. Aren’t we all just sick to death of Covid by now? flowers I’m sure LLFL must be fed up of it, too.
I’m glad the leak has been fixed Grannysomerset but I too would be salty, (as my DD’s say) with the hassle and expense.
Don’t talk about bed bugs, Granmarie. I’m currently in a hotel and am paranoid about catching them! 👀 👀
You’re a lovely neighbour, Annsixty.

Thank you for all the holiday good wishes. As mentioned above, we’re at an airport hotel, car stashed in a long stay car park. We’re about to go for dinner then bed, as we have a 4am wake up call tomorrow. 😱 First flight at 7am though I haven’t been able to check in online yet as the third flight won’t have departed yet.

This morning we did our workout with our PT. He’s somehow inveigled us into taking part in a charity quiz night next month. Then I decided to change the bed linen so it would be fresh on our return from holiday, and got that laundered and put away. It’s ages since we both went away for any length of time so I had to remember things like throwing out the last of the milk, emptying the bins and watering my plants before leaving.

Take care everyone. TOYA. Xxx

Good evening Kitcheners. Some lovely meals described on here! I've had a busy day. We walked to the swings this morning but didn't linger because of thick fog and freezing temperatures. So the picnic plans were on hold. Dgs1 was again such a good boy, playing quietly while dgs2 slept. Later we went on another walk, led by dgs2. We ended up doing a circuit round the houses and visited a small green space close by with lovely trees and some open grass. I visited mum who was having a good day. She had eaten well and chatted quite a bit with me. I've just had dinner. Stir fried chilli chicken with honey and peanut butter in a red wine reduction and rice. I have enough for tomorrow too. I'll have another early night I think. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.

brook2704 Tue 17-Oct-23 19:34:19

Have a safe journey SueD that’s an early wake up call. Hope all is on time with the flights 😀

Grandmabatty Tue 17-Oct-23 19:59:57

Sue safe journey. Annsixty good to hear from you. What about those ready meal companies? Would that help? Brook you are a very busy lady. Yiayia sympathies. I hope you get better soon 💐

Grandmabatty Tue 17-Oct-23 20:01:03

Grannmarie I hope your soup turned out. Dgs2 had three bowls of my ham and lentil soup today

Nannytopsy Tue 17-Oct-23 21:26:26

SueD have a wonderful trip!
Yiayia sorry to hear you have Covid - there is an awful lot about round here.
The window cleaner came at 8,so we have had a long and productive day.
Shed sorted, lots if glass taken to the bottle bank ( dozens of jam jars, and that was after I kept the good ones!) , 4 lots of washing and a load of ironing.
DD is 25 weeks now and really having back problems. She has lax ligaments and two pregnancies close together have caused lots of problems. Her work are fantastic and she is working from home for two weeks, to see if it helps.
I planted lots of bulbs in pots today like Monty says, so there should be plenty of colour in spring.

brook2704 Tue 17-Oct-23 22:57:28

Aww your poor DD nannytopsy what a shame but good that her work are being so supportive, it’s not always the case. Hope she can take it easy a little bit and rest if she can. Whenever we have a trip to the bottle bank it’s usually to take the empty wine bottles and only the odd jam jar … 😳

Nannytopsy Wed 18-Oct-23 03:15:48

There were lots of bottles too Brook 🤣

Naughtyneine Wed 18-Oct-23 11:00:27

So finally I'm in a better place. I'm not going to bore you all my wobble when compared to what some of you are going through...it's trivial.

Urms...my spirits lifted when I read about your DH. Such wonderful news and your elation was palpable...as it should be. Onwards and upwards. Prayers heard and answered too for your DDIL Corner. It was lovely to read that Mr C is back not only on driving duties but early morning tea too. ( DOH brings me one every day).
Blossoming...I sorry you've had a fall....especially as I was happy to hear that the exercise thing I sent had helped you sleep better. I had a fall last week too. Slipped off the kerb and fell heavily on both knees..arms outstretched etc. I just managed to jerk my head back before I face planted the pavement. Of course that caused some mild whiplash to go with the cut knees and fibro pain in hand wrists elbows and shoulders. Ooh it did hurt.
Yia and LLFL...Covid...you poor ladies.... Just when we thought life was getting back to normal.
I've only had 3 jabs and not allowed any more as I started to go into anaphylaxis after the last one and as I was only allowed the Astra Zeneca one due to previous anaphylactic shock I'm scuppered now.
SueD....at long last you will be on your way now to see your DS. That's going to one long cuddle at the arrivals lounge methinks. Enjoy.
Grandmarie...I stayed in Nice some years back and did the same journey to Monaco too. I had the worst and most expensive coffee in Monte Carlo...but was fascinated by the revolving toilet!!!!. I'm glad you were able to enjoy happy times with your sisters...memories made. ♥️
Harrigran....I hope the sadness of your anniversary has eased a bit... It's still very early days for you but I hope that the love you so obviously had with your DH comforts you as you remember him and happy times shared.
GrandmaB.... I love reading about all the adventures you have with your beloved GC....long may they continue.

SomersetGran...we too had 'a problem'. Our lovely friend who dog sat while we were away left a window open...it's one of those that can go horizontal and the rain fell in down a wall then found a joist to creep along and make its presence known on the bedroom ceiling....luckily the remedy was to close said window and eventually paint the ceiling.
Soop..
I wince when I read that Mr S has bumped an already sore head ..again. Bless him. I think internal anaesthesia in the form of a dram or 3 is needed for both of you before the Brillo pads appear!!!!!

Christmas Cooking....well I think the words I need are Heaven Forfend ( a favourite of mine). I have home made mincemeat from last year ( does that count? )...and I recently made a batch of pear, apple and plum chutney and strawberry jam but as for the actual C word... It's not happening yet.
For all of you I haven't mentioned... I'm sorry..it really isn't a case of I'm not interested it's just I really do need to write everything down before I start to post as every time I scroll back..I lose what I've written.
Anyway it was lovely to hear ALL your news
Keep safe everyone who might be affected by Storm Babet. ( a pretty name for something nasty feels a bit wrong to my mind).

X

Blossoming Wed 18-Oct-23 11:10:59

Have a fabulous trip SueDonim.

Grannmarie I am feeling much better, apart from self inflicted thumb wound grin. It’s tightly bandaged so I don’t have to see it!

Neine it’s lovely to hear from you, I will read and absorb your post shortly.

It seems I may be suffering from postural hypotension, I have experienced this before. I feel fine when sitting or lying down but start to fade out when I stand up, Today I will be taking blood pressure readings while sitting and standing.

Blossoming Wed 18-Oct-23 11:19:37

I think you’re allowed a wobble or two in the circumstances Neine. I’m sorry you’ve had a fall which sounds much worse than mine! It’s important to protect your head when you fall, sometimes at the expense of some other body parts. I really can’t thank you enough for those exercises, being free from that particular pain and able to sleep makes everything else so much easier to deal with. Look after yourself lovely lady flowers

Have a safe journey SueD that’s an early wake up call. Hope all is on time with the flights 😀

Thank you for the travel wishes - sadly the flights have not been on time! The Edinburgh/London flight was delayed which meant we would miss our connection. They rebooked us onto a flight to Chicago but we’ve got a six hour wait at Heathrow. We were meant to meet our dd on the original flight but she’s had to go ahead without us. The irony is, that flight was also delayed so we could probably have managed to make the connection!

By the time we arrive we’ll have been up for almost 24hrs so should at least sleep.

soop Wed 18-Oct-23 12:54:24

Please accept my apologies for neglecting you lovely lot. It has been an unusually busy time since I last joined you in our kitchen. I am well behind with all your news. Sorry. flowers

Our Australian visitor is due to fly into Campbeltown airport early tomorrow. The weather forecast is dire.

I have an appointment with a surgeon on Friday morning. I shall report back over the weekend. Love to you all.

Charleygirl5 Wed 18-Oct-23 14:46:28

I have just booked my Christmas slot with Morrisons. Silly me did not realise I had to order the food also so I have done that- I can make some changes nearer the time if necessary because strangely I will not know what I have run out of then. It was easy as I only have myself to cater for at Christmas.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 18-Oct-23 15:00:39

Imagine the brightest red in the world. My bedroom/study is being painted as we speak!

Yiayia4 Wed 18-Oct-23 16:32:20

Good to hear from you Niene. Please take care and you also Blossoming.
That’s bad luck your flights are delayed Sue. You will need a good rest when you do arrive.

Hope your hip is a bit better Jax, sounds very painful.
You have such a busy life Grandmabatty make sure you look after yourself.

Still feeling rubbish hopefully a another few days and I’ll start to feel better.Feet up watching the rain and leaves falling from the horse chestnut tree.
Have a pleasant evening all, keep safe from the storm.

GrannySomerset Wed 18-Oct-23 16:43:35

A frustrating day waiting for someone to look at the non-working boiler. Finally cracked at 4.00 pm and rang again, to be told airily that nobody could come today. Am promised someone tomorrow morning but will not hold my breath. Meanwhile it is cold!

Grandmabatty Wed 18-Oct-23 17:40:39

Good afternoon kitcheners. Neine it's good to hear from you. I hope things are ok from now on. Yiayia 💐 to you and to Blossoming. Grannysomerset that is very annoying for you and it's miserable when you're cold. Soop fingers crossed that your visitors make it in. Suedonim how annoying for you.
Today went well. The boys and I had an M and S picnic, mostly chosen by dgs1. After buying the food, we had a visit to the toy shop next door and new cars were bought for grandma's house. Lots of outside play today because the forecast is awful. The picnic was a success. Later on we walked to Polmont Woods which are close by. Dgs1 was very excited to see squirrels and a rabbit which bolted close by. Only when we were at the furthest bit did dgs1 ask where was dgs2's shoe. I hadn't even noticed the wee soul was limping along one shoed! Of course we had to retrace our steps. Fortunately we came upon it close to the start. While out, royal mail delivered my very expensive pastels, so I shall play with them on Friday.
Tomorrow is the last of my four days stint of childcare, not that I'm counting 😄 I fear it'll be an indoor day unless we manage some puddle splashing. I'm going to build dens in the various rooms in the house tomorrow early for the boys to hide in. Wish me luck! Have a good evening Kitcheners

brook2704 Wed 18-Oct-23 17:59:54

How frustrating SueD flight delays and missed connections are just awful and so stressful. I hope you’re relaxing on a plane somewhere mid air now. It’ll be worth it when you arrive but try to get some rest if you can
Good to hear from you neine sorry to hear about your fall, hope you’re on the mend without too much damage done
I’ve had a busy but good day, the gym this morning, lots of laughter and a bit of work too, my gym buddies really are the best! Then a long relaxing chat with my friend in Starbucks this afternoon. It’s not the best cafe but the staff are lovely, there’s always lots of space and comfy sofas and they let you sit as long as you want, so it suits us fine.
Pleased you found the shoe grandmabatty, easily done, your day with today the little ones and the picnic sounds lovely. Tomorrow sounds good too, I think I’ll have to come along for a play date 😀
Yia hope you feel better soon and hope your BP is behaving too Blossoming

Jaxjacky Wed 18-Oct-23 18:29:32

Hi kitcheners, I waved to SueD as a big plane flew over 🙂.
Good to hear from you neine onwards, no more falls.
You have never ending energy Grandmabatty it’s rained non stop here for at least five hours, no sign of stopping.
I did walk this morning and shoved a load of mince and onion in the slow cooker, then hygienist and dentist, not my favourite, but job done.
Enjoy your evening all.

Grandmabatty Wed 18-Oct-23 18:37:37

Brook you would be very welcome to come on a playdate! Jaxjacky the rain is due to hit here tonight. My energy levels have flagged now. I'm lying on the couch watching TV. I'll have to get moving soon and tidy up the kitchen.
