I think that chicken is absolutely splendid, GMbatty and I am certain he is already ruling the roost (sorry! grin ) in your house.
Delivery people Soop. I don’t know what to make of them sometimes. Last week I ordered something, it was delivered two days later, then the following the day I was notified that it was going to be delivered again the day after that! As it happened, nothing arrived but it makes you wonder what’s going on. MrSoops Brillo pads sound terrifying. I hope it’s not as bad as it sounds.
Poor haggis, Granmarie! Maybe they just wanted to try it for themselves.

Lots of walking going on with Kitcheners, it seems. Well done! I’m afraid I do t walk as much as I should as I have plantar fasciitis and then, I just find walking so darn boring! I am always thinking I could be reading or cooking or gardening or - heaven forfend - cleaning the windows.

Yesterday I visited the beautician for attention to my eyebrows, lashes and nails, which are now Barbie Pink, in readiness for our visit to the US. I also did some last minute bits of shopping, although I now need to do more last minute shopping as I forgot the jelly babies that are a non-negotiable part of visiting DS & family.

Today dd came over with the children as they’re away in Aviemore from tomorrow. They had their tea here after which I bathed & hair-washed the wee ones, and popped them into pj’s so dd could take them home and get them to bed.

I also started packing for our trip, which mainly consists of putting things on the spare bed, at the moment. I’ve written a list, so I think that counts as progress!

Sweet dreams, everyone. Xxx

Good evening dear Kitcheners. It’s been a beautiful bright and cold day. We have been out visiting family, 2 of my beautiful grown up nieces and children. 2 of the children, my grandnephews, are teenagers and much taller than me! They are such confident and articulate boys and very well brought up, obvs grin

I’m worn out now, sat in my nice warm bed in my “Granny Clampett” nightie and warm bed socks on! Quite the sight.

My thermals will be in use daily now Jax and Brook. I rather enjoy sharp sunny days but my muscles, joints and circulation don’t agree nowadays. I’m with you Hulahoop, my mobility is not yet good enough for winter walks and it is frustrating at times. That is a splendid chicken Grandmabatty, would it be chicken for dinner per chance? Parcel deliveries can be so frustrating Soop, I can imagine it’s worse where you are. Granmarie you should definitely encourage the Wee Boy’s interest in cleaning. Good luck with the packing SueD, you must be getting excited now.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten to mention something but my fingers can’t spell any more so I’ll sign off now. This time last week I was so poorly, I need to make sure I don’t try to do too much.

Goodnight lovely people, TOYA ❤️

Catterygirl Mon 16-Oct-23 00:20:48

Just popping into your lovely kitchen to wish everyone a good night’s sleep. It’s so important to how you feel the next day.

Ali08 Mon 16-Oct-23 04:59:49

SueDonim forfend?
I'm learning new words today, it seems!

Blossoming Mon 16-Oct-23 12:48:13

Maybe it’s an Aberdeen thing Ali08, heaven forfend was a favourite of my mother’s.

Grandmabatty Mon 16-Oct-23 13:58:42

It's more of a Scottish word I think. I've used it in the past

GrannySomerset Mon 16-Oct-23 14:37:58

Returned home an hour ago after a lovely weekend with DS and family, having got myself there and back by taxi, train, underground and bus, to find that something upstairs has leaked and the kitchen ceiling (the newest in the house!) is in danger. I am waiting for an emergency plumber, but feel the fates must be telling me never to leave the house! I am beyond cross and fed up.

Grandmabatty Mon 16-Oct-23 17:28:39

Grannysomerset that's rotten. I hope it can be fixed quickly.
The boys have been dropped off and I'm resting on the couch for five minutes before I finish tidying. Today both boys have been really good. We went to the park this morning and lots of playing and running around. The cygnets are now full grown and surrounded us, clamouring for food. Both boys were wary as the birds were much bigger than them. This afternoon dgs1 played quietly with cars while dgs2 had a two hour nap. No screaming or tantrums today. Phew. Tonight I'm having roast chicken, roast potatoes with asparagus and tender stem broccoli in mustard sauce. Then apple sponge with custard. I definitely deserve it! I've been up since five and on the go. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

cornergran Mon 16-Oct-23 17:30:49

Oh heck grannysomerset. You must want to stamp your feet and scream. I’m so sorry. Hope the plumber is speedy and the damage not as bad as you fear. A hug coming your way

Things are heading in the right direction with family hearts. Our daughter in law is stable. Such a relief. Mr C has been checked by the GP today and reassured all continues to be well. We’re very fortunate.

A plumber was here at 8am this morning and sorted our misbehaving toilet without bankrupting us. Bit of a relief on all levels.

I’m in need of a serious rest, been awake since 3.10 am. How precise is that? smile. I’m beyond tired now, fibro pain is waking me most nights, truly a pain.

I’m off to find something to feed us. Suspect scrambled egg as Mr C loves it. TOYA.

brook2704 Mon 16-Oct-23 17:39:21

Hi to all our kitchen pals good to see you here
Oh my goodness GrannySomerset after doing so well with your travels how awful to come home to a problem like that. I hope the plumber arrives quick enough to save the kitchen ceiling - what a worry. I hope it’s easily fixed but don’t let it spoil your happy memories from your weekend away.
I did the yoga class at the gym first thing, still learning the basics and finding it a bit of a challenge but I’ll keep going. My other gym classes are quite energetic so the yoga is a welcome change, especially when the instructor turns down the lights, puts some relaxing music on and leaves us to ourselves. I almost drift off to sleep 💤
Then gardening this afternoon, still lots of leaves on the trees but lots on the ground too that need clearing up
Good to hear you’ve had such a good day with the Dgs grandmabatty, hope you get a rest later
Brilliant news about your Dil corner and Mr C too 💐
Thanks catterygirl you’re so right about a good nights sleep

Grandmabatty Mon 16-Oct-23 18:46:02

Cornergran that's good news from you.

Jaxjacky Mon 16-Oct-23 18:58:25

That’s a bit of a bu**er GrannySomerset hope it’s fixed soonest, the last thing you needed.
Excellent news corner relief on many fronts (and bottoms!).
Sounds like a good day all round Grandmabatty enjoy your yummy dinner.
A pretty non productive day here, the voluntary phone kept me busy, little else, other than washing was done, still, I’ve done my bit.
Washing is drying indoors as there was no sun, a grey day and cool. Still, quiz soon, let’s hope my brain can contribute something to the team.

Blossoming Mon 16-Oct-23 20:55:50

Good evening dear Kitcheners. It’s been another cold bright day. MrB has been to the optician, he needs new glasses but they didn’t have the frame in the colour he wanted. They will ring him once they’re in stock so he can go and have a look before they put the new lenses in. I have been quite productive, done lots of laundry and vacuuming. The dehumidifier has been delivered, I will get it set up tomorrow with MrB’s help. This house is not damp but I don’t like loads of washing drying indoors in winter. MrB will be going shopping tomorrow so I made him a list.

How upsetting GrannySomerset, not what you want to be greeted by after a long journey. Hope it’s soon put right.

I thought it might be an Aberdeen thing Grandmabatty because I know SueDonim is in that part of the country. My mother’s other favourite was ‘Merciful heavens!‘ if something was particularly shocking. Glad the boys behaved well today.

Good news Cornergran, hope you sleep well tonight.

What a busy day Brook, I am in awe of your stamina.

Jax manning the ‘phone is productive and very necessary so thank heavens for volunteers like you. Good luck with the quiz tonight.

I’m tired now as I have been quite active, up and down stairs, fetching and carrying. This time last week I felt too ill to do anything. Life is sweet and I’m very grateful.

Goodnight lovely people, TOYA ❤️

Charleygirl5 Mon 16-Oct-23 21:44:22

8GrannySomerset* that is awful having spent a lovely weekend away it is not quite what you want to find on return.

corner that is really good news firstly with Mr C and now with your daughter in law. I hope she is receiving proper pain relief and does not find herself at home too soon just because she is making good progress.

I know it is stressful for you at present but you must look after yourself and to get some sleep.
TOYA

SueDonim Mon 16-Oct-23 22:56:55

I’m grin at the discussion of the word ‘forfend’. It’s a word I’ve always known, it feels. I suspect I learnt it from the rubbishy novels I read when young. 😂 I don’t think it’s particular to any area, I was born and raised a Maid of Kent.

Grannysomerset, how upsetting. I hope the plumber has managed to find the source and that the damage is very limited. flowers
GMbatty & Cornergran you were both early birds today. I’m sure you’ll sleep well tonight. Good news about your DIL and Dh, Corner.
You had me thinking about learning new things, Brook with your yoga. We’ve been doing a new routine with our PT and have struggled with doing the exercises. Then last night, it all fell into place, I didn’t need to watch the videos and remembered the sequence, too!

I went into town for last minute bits today - there seems to be a shortage of jelly babies! I eventually found two small bags lurking on a shelf in WHS. Then home to create a meal out of Things In The Back of the Fridge before spending the evening packing. I think it’s mainly done apart from the last minute stuff like toothbrushes and make up.

Wishing everyone a peaceful night. Xxx

Nannytopsy Tue 17-Oct-23 08:50:17

Morning! The window cleaner has already been, so that was another early start. The decorator was due to repaint the kitchen but has a car problem. Who knows when he will come?
I know forfend and I was brought up in the Black Country.
Today we are sorting out the shed 😱 to make a cool space for the wine we brought back from France. It’s taken a while to get round to it. Have a good day

Blossoming Tue 17-Oct-23 10:20:20

My apologies SueDonim blush

Yiayia4 Tue 17-Oct-23 12:53:26

Have a wonderful holiday with your family SueDonim.

Hope the leak can be sorted quicklyGrannysomerset.

I have Covid and feeling rubbish.I think I have picked it
up on the plane home DH ok so far.Had to cancel my rheumatologist appointment and lots of things this week but such is life.

We are having a problem trying to change doctors since moving. Our present surgery said we are out of the catchment area, we live
just 2 miles away but, we can go to another across the road from old one!! The nearest surgery to us is not taking new patients it’s absolutely crazy.

Have a nice afternoon and evening Kitcheners.

Blossoming Tue 17-Oct-23 13:09:33

Sorry you’re feeling so rough Yia, hope the GP situation is resolved soon.

GrannySomerset Tue 17-Oct-23 13:18:38

I feel your frustration, Yia, and hope you can find a satisfactory solution. New plumber has been and sorted out the problem (ching!) so now the long wait for walls and ceilings to dry out so that the painter can do his stuff. Am trying to take an objective view but finding it hard..

Jaxjacky Tue 17-Oct-23 16:35:22

Have the best holiday with your family SueDonim how exciting.
On no Yia fingers crossed it’s mild, passes quickly and you get a GP sorted, very frustrating.
Taken the sheen off your trip away GrannySomerset, a high to a low, but I’m sure it won’t take too long, hopefully you can find something to cheer 💐.
Today the sun eventually came out, I stored the geraniums away, went for a walk and saw a physiotherapist who diagnosed my now waning 🤞thigh pain as a ‘niggly nerve. Studiously avoided any housework, but must really clean the hob.

Grannmarie Tue 17-Oct-23 17:19:34

Good afternoon, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. I hope MrSoop's head is on the mend.

SueD, you sound all organised, titivated and packed, so have a safe journey and a wonderful holiday with your DS and family.

GrannySomerset, I'm so sorry to hear about your water damage, but glad to hear that the plumber has been. Do you have a dehumidifier to help with the drying out?

Glad you're feeling much better, Blossoming. You will be amazed at how much water your new dehumidifier will 'sook up', I don't know how I survived without one. My washing is drying on the clothes horse indoors, like Jaxjacky's yesterday, so it's currently on Laundry mode in the kitchen, too cold outside today.

YiaYia, I'm so sorry to hear that you are not well with Covid. Wrap up warmly and drink lots of honey and lemon 🍋, maybe add a wee hauf ( measure of whisky) to make a toddy? Purely medicinal! 🤣

Hello 👋 Nannytopsy, good for you, clearing out your shed. I definitely need to clear the garage, but so many bits and bobs belong to the boys ( our three sons) that I can't risk throwing them away. No one seems to want them though!

Good news all round, Cornergran, I hope you had less pain and a better sleep last night. I agree with Charleygirl.

Your yoga class sounds wonderful, Brook, so restful! You must be very supple. I'd love to try something like that but I have difficulty getting up and down on the floor, especially now with my wonky knee.

Grandmabatty, sounds like a lovely day with your wee boys yesterday, I hope today went just as well. I hope your Mum is content and comfortable.

I've been very sleepy since I came home from Nice, so I had an unusual long lie this morning, the trick now is to stay awake till bedtime, no sofa snoring 😴! I've been keeping busy, made another pot of ham and lentil soup, family favourite. Also got completely up to date with washing, all clothes and bedding done now. I pushed the bare bed from one end of the room to the other so that I could hoover underneath as well as the mattress!
( I've read on GN about French bedbugs so I'm being extra particular 🤣)

Air fryer salmon, roast veg, couscous and salad for dinner tonight. TOYA.🥰

Blossoming Tue 17-Oct-23 17:19:57

Good evening dear Kitcheners. It’s been another cold bright day here, getting very windy now. MrB has been shopping, I have done very little as I fell this morning leaving the bathroom. My thumb got caught on the radiator and is quite a mess, I think I will lose the nail. I haven’t checked for the inevitable bruises yet! I’ve been feeling quite dizzy and nauseous since so have been lazily resting listening to my book. I set the dehumidifier and it seems to be doing its job on the things I washed yesterday. My poor appetite has not improved, I haven’t eaten yet but have drunk plenty of water. MrB is making poached fish and steamed veg for my tea, which shouldn’t upset my stomach. Despite all this I’m am still feeling good and will no doubt be all the better fog a good night’s sleep.

Glad the plumbing problem is sorted GrannySomerset, hope the ceiling isn’t damaged.

Good the thigh pain is lessening Jax, did the physio advise on any ongoing therapy?

Goodnight all.

Grannmarie Tue 17-Oct-23 17:31:57

Aww, Blossoming, crossed posts. I'm so sorry to hear about your fall, sounds like you've given yourself a right sore one! I hope you feel better after a good night's sleep.
Sorry you're still in pain, Jaxjacky, hope your physio helps and you get relief soon. I recently had a course of medical massage at my GP surgery for a trapped nerve in my shoulder and arm, what a difference it made after a few sessions. I know I'm lucky to be in a very good practice now, my previous GP practice certainly didn't have an in house masseuse.
Thinking of the Urms, Baggs and her DD and family, also hoping and praying that all is well with Neine and her lovely man.

Enjoy your Tuesday evening. I'm looking forward to The Big Scottish Book Club this evening. 📺
