I accept the criticism of the term mistresses, but I was making the point that even men who might use the term would wish women to have safe places.
Makerfield. I wonder how itās going!
Offer of cash - what would you do?
Transgender Dylan Mulvaney has won woman of the year š¤£š¤£ you couldnāt make it up. Not one woman was worth the win. What do you think š¤

Yes you were.
I cant decide whether to get on my high horse.
If a person means well, but upsets a minority, that is ok.
Yet those who are offended, nowadays they may take umbridge.
Another thing to have gone back to front.
Quite apt to say this on this thread.

As a women I find the term mistress more palatable than the term bit on the side
I could weep at yet another trans person taking an award away from a natal woman.
Trying not to bore you all with my constant mentioning of how the WI are welcome transwomen into our Institutes. I was astounded to get a reply from the National WI to one of my emails telling me they accept transwomen who have not completely transitioned and in their opinion they are WOMEN! If you have a penis you are not a woman, end of!
I got what you meant grumpa
I ve never heard of this Dylan man but thatās what he is A MAN
so he cannot win a title of āwoman of the yearā however much the need to want is
Absolutely ridiculous and makes me very angry and doesnāt do the world of trans any good at all I wouldnāt think

I'm not offended by the terminology - just surprised it's still in use.
If I am offended by anything, it's what it represents. Mistress is a throwback to a bygone era when it was accepted that men would have both wife and mistress. I think the institution of marriage has changed a bit since then.
Of course, "mistress" is more polite than "a bit on the side" ... a nicer way of saying the same thing. I can't imagine many young people using the phrase, or even tolerating the concept!
Your point was well made grumppa and good to see.
It may have been marginally better if this award had been presented to a fully transitioned trans woman. Still not a woman and never will be but much better than a man complete with his genitalia being given the award.
I think we differ slightly on this point smileless. It makes no difference to me what men do or dont do to their bodies. A woman is not a man with his penis removed.
Got to agree, utter b*****ks.
I keep wondering whether all those who want to be thought of as a cat, are still going around being, um, cats!
How do they earn their income?! etc.
grumpa - I dislike āmistressā, the term and all it stands for. Thanks for posting here š
It must be significant that he won the award from an LBGTQ magazine though.
And Grumppa, I agree with your sentiments. So what if āmistressā is outdated. Itās succinct and better than some alternatives.
We have just all got to accept, that even a grifter like Dylan is better at being a woman than any of us.
I nearly choked on my cereal Ilovecheese!

Who organises this award? Presumably they are a bit hard of thinking, at the very least!
Is it Kier Starmer? Just remember he cannot answer the question 'what is a woman' and says that only 99% of women do not have a penis. This is the man most on here seem to be wanting for PM.
He only started his "journey" in early 2022 and achieved woman of the year in October 23! Think of all the "real" woman who will have done far more in that time (and a lot longer) who are far more deserving of an award. Really makes you wonder if the award is worth having?
I think it is a bit harsh coming down on grumppa for using the word mistress he was only trying to get the point across in a more general way. I too prefer the word mistress to some of the other terminology and if you look at the definition of the word there is also this:
"a woman in a position of authority or control". Just like the word gay which once upon a time had a totally different meaning.

Yep - frightening isn't it ?

It made me laugh because I thought it was tongue-in-cheek. š
And anyone who doesn't think many men and women indulge in extra-marital affairs needs to have a bit of a rethink.

I don't need a "re-think".
Men and women have been having extra-marital affairs for hundreds of years.
It was absolutely rife in Victorian times - the happily married man sitting around the dinner table with his wife and children, being kind and charming whilst anticipating his later visit to his "mistress". Women had no choice but to accept it as they were not financially independent, mostly. So they indulged their menfolk... it's just men, they have needs, etc. All of it playing into the sense of entitlement that some men feel they have.
Times have changed though and now women are independent and they, too, have extra marital affairs - they, too, have needs.
But unless they have an open relationship - either one is lying to and deceiving the other. It may work for some, but for others the betrayal brings misery and heartbreak - and not just for the adults involved.
However, I do accept that my view is a tad unfashionable and out of date. But that doesn't mean that I'm not aware of the realities of present-day relationships.
I agree Galaxy, which is why I posted that a man can never be a woman.
Any organisation presenting a trans woman with a 'woman of the year award' is absurd, even more so when the 'woman' has retained their male genitalia.
I felt the term mistress was tongue cheek and itās sad that people took exception to override or divert the original post. The Dylan M chap has killed off Bud Light in the US. Itās sad that anyone admires his synthetic take on femininity. Gives me the creeps. As do Miss Portugal and another Miss something or other.
Never heard of the award, nor the man involved.

I agree with all of this. Grumpaās post was intended to be supportive- we donāt want to alienate people who are trying to speak up for women because of their choice of words. I might take issue with the word in a different thread, but the gist of the post on this one is that Grumpa wants to protect womenās rights.
Yes, Dylan is not as great at being a woman as the award suggests, given the Budweiser debacle
. Itās another example of someone socialised as a man pushing to the front of a womenās cause in a typically masculine way.
