..... I am writing the pub quiz for the end of the month and I have devised this round. I want to try and get some feedback as to whether it is too difficult - it will be a table round. These are synonyms of the words of well-known songs and you need to identify the songs. All feedback gratefully received! It's quite long!

Crazy Songs
1. Allow me to escort you on a descent
Since I intend to travel to fruit meadows
Zilch is true
Zilch to be anxious over
Fruit meadows in perpetuity.

2. You are beneath my my epidermis
You are well below my cardiac area
So well below my cardiac area that you are a personal portion
You are beneath my epidermis

3. However, everything is fine at this moment, actually it’s flatulence
However, everything is fine; I am Leaping John Expose
It’s flatulence, flatulence, flatulence.
Leaping John Expose, it’s flatulence …… [repeat!]

4. (1997 version)
Farewell to Albion’s flower
May you always enlarge in our cardiac areas
You were the goodwill that self-seeded
In regions where living had exploded
You cried to our nation
And spoke softly to those suffering anguish
Now you reside in Paradise
And the asterisks transcribe your moniker
[chorus]………. I am of the opinion that you existed as a taper, subject to gusts
Always unaware whom to grab
When in a new shower.

5. Territory of desire and splendour
Female parent of those liberated
How shall those of us who popped out of your womb
Tell you how great you are?
More extensive and more extensive
Will the edges be defined
Allah who created your strength
Make you even stronger.

6. I am imagining a pale Midwinter
In keeping with those of my past
With arboreal shimmering, and infantile attention to
Chariot chimes in the blizzard.

7. I adore her vibrant raiments
And the fashion in which rays sport in her tresses
I pick up the noise of soft speaking
In the gusts that elevate her scent via the atmosphere
I am hearing splendid oscillations ……….

8. Were I to remain, I would be an encumbrance
So I will leave but comprehend that
I will dwell on you at each pace on the road.
And I will hold you in permanent affection
I will hold you in permanent affection, my beloved.

9. [chorus]
What are your emotions? What are your emotions?
Being with no dwelling
Like a total nameless person
Like a wheeling pebble?

10. Alright, following the departure of my infant
I have discovered a new place to live
It’s at the lower extremity of Solitary Road
At Grief Guesthouse
Where I will be so unaccompanied, I’ll be so unaccompanied, infant
Alright, I’m so unaccompanied
I’ll be so unaccompanied, I might depart this life.

Once I was given the first one I tuned in and got the others. Perhaps your quiz can start with the clue and the answer ‘ strawberry fields’ to give your audience confidence?

I got all of them, and know that my family will too - they are the sort of questions we like - and we divide the teams so there are all age groups in each. I don’t think it will need to be an interval round. I’ll print them off and let each team work on the questions together. Or maybe put it on PowerPoint with a timer for each question.

The quizzers are not in the first flush of youth!

Jeanieallergy21 Thu 19-Oct-23 16:01:05

Enjoyed that, thank you. I couldn't get no. 8 and had to read the comments to get the answer!

Flo122 Thu 19-Oct-23 16:04:30

Very clever. There's something similar in the programme House of Games. I would like to see something like this in a quiz I went to.

If you thought all these up yourself, congratulations for the hard work and. As everyone has said, the good mix of easier and harder ones.

Some I could hear the music as soon as I read them and others took some thinking. Unfortunately I saw the answers before I had had time to work them out. "Flatulence" should cause a lot of amusement!

I got the first one straight away but I’ll have to spend a bit time on the others .

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 19-Oct-23 16:58:06

I agree Jacky, congratulations Lucky, you’re very clever.

Wouldn’t have a clue. I wouldn’t be back for a 2nd one

Luckygirl3 Thu 19-Oct-23 17:35:57

Glad some people enjoyed them - it makes me hope that the quizzers in the pub will too!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 19-Oct-23 17:54:09

Those of you who haven’t a clue, did you read the explanation of number 1 which I posted? And some others have posted answers too. Looking at them, do you really still not have a clue?

It's great and fun! We did lots of family quizzes over Zoom during lockdown between 4 branches of the family, all different age groups, and taking it in turns to present the questions. It became quite hilarious - this would definitely have gone down well.

Tanjamaltija Thu 19-Oct-23 21:11:17

Let me take you down, 'cos I'm going to, Strawberry fields...

I got you under my skin.

3 ?

The Last Farewell

...and that's it, because I have a deadline...

For LuckyGirl -- I think that's a pretty good 'team' round. You might need to beware cheats using mobile phones these days?!

For several years I wrote the questions for the local WI charity quiz, and it's very hard to get the right balance. Especially if they let teams play a joker on a round, (some quizzes do that), as you'll get moaned at if somebody is lucky enough to pick an easy round!

Another obvious team round is celeb pictures. Good luck!

No …I d have me cider and go for a chat
I love music but wouldn’t know all the words so not my sort of quiz
( ps I got one or two right but lost interest)
But well done if they are the sort that will enjoy this
Cleverly done I m sure, but not for me
