Very dark, wet and dismal today, but I don’t care.

Christmas puddings are on the hob to simmer until 3.30 so I can’t go out anyway - I need to keep topping up the water. And I won’t feel I ought to be doing something healthy and virtuous out of doors, instead of sitting on the sofa and getting on with my knitting. 🙂

I like your thinking!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 29-Oct-23 12:00:16

Two GS’s have been returned home, dishwasher is on, house tidy.

I have downloaded a jigsaw puzzle app on my iPad, snuggled on the sofa until I have to start preparing dinner (roast beef 7pm)

The sun has decided to put in an appearance here, but I have my feet up listening to Vaughan Williams, waiting for my floors to dry (not too quickly I hope😊), and then I’m going to make some mushroom soup. Why? Who knows?

Just waved DD and little family off, text to say DGS is asleep already! Brunch to clear away but a little sit down first 🤫

It’s lovely here, calm and sunny. Going to persuade DH to come on a long walk.

Raining here too, just going to finish the ironing then the sofa calls. I am going to start my new book club book, The memory keeper of Kyiv, it looks an interesting read.

Raining, no the sun's out. oh no it is raining again, ah here comes the sun....................

Quiet day, in a while i will light the wood-burner for the first time this year and Dh and I will sit infront of it and read and knit, respectively.

I'm cooking a roast dinner, we haven't had one for months smile

I am indoors staying warm and dry. Sadly a number of surrounding villages are water logged and impenetrable. I feel for my friends and the predicament they are in. Hoping that all areas and people affected by these terrible floods will recover soon.

I'm feeling very sorry for myself! I'm extremely tired (M.E. etc. and a busy day yesterday), but mainly feeling low because my daughter is staying for a week, but I've barely seen her since she arrived last Thursday. She is either in her room all the time or out with friends and their families. This is quite normal for her; I don't think she likes spending time with me, but it does hurt. I will see her for a short while tomorrow, as I'm taking her to see my mum (her granny) and hopefully go out for a bit.

Visitors yesterday and then today lunch out with my daughter. This morning I went about for a walk while the sun shone. Now feet up and finishing off a cardigan I knitted for a friend, something easy on the TV that I'm really just listening too rather than watching. Will put the lamps and heating on soon.

I'm feeling very luck as hate the dark nights and dull days.
Beautiful sunny mild day here. 🌞
Line of washing out and dried including bath towels.
Extra hour , so set to and cleaned Shower room, brain had not adjusted to new autumn time so technically up an hour early.
This afternoon conservatory was lovely and warm so spent couple of hours reading and playing patience on my tablet.
Only clue to end of October was being surrounded by Halloween stuff for three small boys 🎃.
Dark evening will be a shock , but hopefully as sun and clear sky at the moment, we should hold on to the light a bit more than if it was a dull day .

I hardly dare say that it's been a lovely day here.
I can see some more flowers appearing on my delicate clematis 🤞 they will survive.

Witzend Sun 29-Oct-23 16:13:00

Did you have a lot of mushrooms to use up, Greyduster?
I’ve only made that once and it wasn’t very successful, so I don’t know where I went wrong.

The sun eventually came out here so after the 🎄puds were done I did go out for a healthy, virtuous walk. Big puddles everywhere! So much rain - I’m very glad we live on a hill.

But before that I’d finished all the pesky fiddly bits for my third Wise Man - sleeves, hands, beard, sash, headdress, gift, etc. This one always looks more majestically regal than the other two, and I don’t think it’s just down to the white beard, instead of black.

I shall finish the stuffing and sewing up tomorrow.

It’s poured down in Durham since 9pm last night. The garden is waterlogged. It’s weather for ducks 🦆☔️
Freezer crisis sorted, floors
steamed, admin up to date, cottage pie assembled ready for the oven, then a glass of red and an evening with Lewis.

It was having covid badly that showed me that I don't need to buzz round all day.

I am still tired so am occasionally watching programmes I have recorded. No guilt involved !

Aveline Mon 30-Oct-23 13:34:04

Next cataract op tomorrow so doing last minute jobs. It's cold and very windy outside so I'm not going for a walk although I know I should. I dread getting a speck of dust or something in my newly operated eye. (My fringe whips on and off my face in the wind.)
So, once I've put on the last washing I'm planning a TV binge. I'll still feel guilty though.

I too fancy a Roast Beef Dinner. Might drive up to Toby Carvery and pick one up .😂

MiniMoon Mon 30-Oct-23 13:41:43

I made a large pan of "clear out the fridge" soup this morning. The window cleaners came and scared the cat.
I've just written a birthday card for GS 3, and am taking it to him later. After yesterday's rain I'm pleased to say that today is fair and quite bright.

Aveline Mon 30-Oct-23 13:52:36

crazyH I know what you mean. Sometimes a Toby carvery is just exactly the thing I fancy.

Zwettler186 Mon 30-Oct-23 13:54:59

How lovely 😊
Hope to start my Christmas puddings soon!

This really touched me Cloughdancer.. how very rude and uncompassionate of your daughter. I wonder if she really understands how unhappy her behaviour ismaking you feel.. it might be worth it to tell her..

My Christmas puddings and cakes are left over from last year 😁 It was the first year for ages we actually had Christmas just by ourselves and was bliss.

This year our house guests will be here with us for Christmas and some of their family are going to visit - we're having a Ukrainian Christmas meal, whatever that is. I'm keeping out of it and letting them get on with it. It feels very odd not to be organising things though.
