Good morning, lots of rain overnight and more forecast for later.
We have the Dog for the week, MissOops house appears to be surrounded by people having early fireworks and it freaks the dog out, yesterday she also had some localised thunder and the dog was a shaking stressed out mess, once here she calmed down and sat in the garden under a tree.
We rarely get fireworks, but MissOops will spend the nights here for the week, just in case. She is such good company.

Stay safe everyone and stay dry.

Good morning all and I’m about to pick up little DGD for school. Never know how the traffic will be.

Dh hopes to go fishing but will decide, when I’m back with the car.

Looking forward to seeing two grans for lunch. I’ll walk up to town and have a look around the market first.

Have a ‘good’ day. 🌻

Good morning all, its wild in Glasgow this morning and only 5°C.

I had hoped to go to All Saints Day Mass, but I'm feeling a bit ropey, trying to stave off a chest infection. I was up and down all night at the loo, due to those blooming heart pills. This is now the norm. A day in the house I think.

Yesterday, I received a surprise phone call from an ex colleague and we had a lovely chat. She was a couple of years above me at school, but the first time we met was working as students on the Knorr stock cube and Mazola corn oil line fifty years ago. We were awful at our job, with the supervisor continually ranting and swearing at us for our incompetence.
She told me that she had just arrived back from Santiago di Compostela and I jokingly asked which bone she had broken this time.
On Monday just before flying home on a last visit to the cathedral, a gust of wind caught her brolly at the top of the Cathedral steps, she flew into the air like Mary Poppins and landed at the bottom of the steps.
Yesterday morning, she took herself to A&E, where she discovered that she had broken her shoulder!
Nearly every time she goes on holiday, some disaster befalls her.
I asked her about an old family friend of hers, who has been missing at church for months. She is 86, went to a family wedding in Dubrovnik, where she fell and broke her hip. The lady is amazing, she has made such a good recovery, that she is just about ready to drive again.

Susan, I thought I had died and gone to heaven, the first time I visited Cheshire Oaks. I was on a girls weekend and at that time, we had nothing like that in Scotland.

For all those on holiday and spending time with family, enjoy and for all those struggling, I wish you a gentle day.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 6° and very wet. Mizuna I love your patio. It is so twinkly. Ash that's a nuisance about the egg throwing. It can be so unsettling, I know, as I had similar in my last house. Grannygravy I haven't seen any Christmas adverts yet. Gala I'm another who usually doesn't sleep longer than two hours at a time. I do similar to GrandMattie and I have an audiobook on fairly low. If I can't fall over again, I listen intently to it and often that's all it takes. Otherwise I get up and make a hot drink then try again. Susan enjoy your day with the grandchildren.
Yesterday was a good day for dgs2 and I. We went out walking although he's in some discomfort, poor wee man. He has a pediatric appointment in December. He doesn't let it hold him back and he trots everywhere. After I dropped them off, they went out guising. They visited me on the way to their other grandparents. Dgs1 was so hyper. He told me two jokes and then buzzed around. Dgs2 was dressed as Spiderman and his party piece was doing the Spiderman moves. I was very glad I wasn't having them for a sleepover last night!
Today is a lovely, quiet day. I haven't finished one of my books, so I'll leave the library until tomorrow. I need to pick up a parcel in town later and I'll visit mum tonight. Other than that, I'll be pottering around. Have a good day all

Enjoy your meet up ladies! 💚

Good morning from a wet East Yorkshire.

It seems like it’s rained virtually non stop in the last 24 hours. We had the GC yesterday. We took them to a garden centre where they enjoyed the indoor soft play area, choosing some decorations for there Christmas tree and enjoying lunch and an afternoon treat and drink.

Today I am off to one of our local theatres for a matinee which I am looking forward to. It’s a new play by John Godber. I will go by train making the journey quicker.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone. Very wet in N. Bucks. DH has cancelled his golf.
I have to finish getting materials together for our project at craft club this afternoon.
This evening is our WI . AGM along with a ploughman’s supper and social.
Somewhere along the line I want to make a table centre for the competition. Not compulsory but I like to join in.

A good day wished for all.

harrigran Wed 01-Nov-23 08:14:31

Good morning from a grey, damp NE.
Yesterday the bank complaints department rang again, they still haven't managed to sort out the problem. Five months is a long time, they told me it would be sorted in 15 days.
This morning my solicitor is bringing papers for me to sign, this is the rescheduled visit from last week.
Don't think I will be seeing DS as he still has covid.

NanKate Wed 01-Nov-23 08:30:18

Good morning Mick and All from a calm before the storm type of day in South Bucks.

My youngest DGS is on his first PGL holiday on the Isle of Wight which is about to be battered by storm weather! I do hope he and his friends are holed up safely until the weather improves when he returns on Friday. 🤞

Alygran Wed 01-Nov-23 08:32:18

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s still raining. I expect it’s going to lead to more local flooding from the River Swale. It’s certainly the wettest autumn for a long time Greyd.
I have an online Mind course to do this morning, “Conversations in the Community”. I think it will be really helpful in talking with our parent carers.
Coffee with a friend later and I may go to the garden centre for an amaryllis. I haven’t had one for a few years.
Enjoy the company of grandchildren all of you helping out with half term. Have a good day everyone.

NannyJan53 Wed 01-Nov-23 08:43:10

Good morning from a damp Black Country, where it is cloudy but not raining at the moment.

We need to get the Gazebo down today for the Winter, and before the storm starts!

Apart from that no real plans for today, but I'm sure something will crop up.

Wishing you all the best day possible

BlueSapphire Wed 01-Nov-23 08:48:00

Good morning everyone, and Happy White Rabbits Day from a damp and grey Northampton, but the sun is trying to show its face.

Yesterday turned out lovely; at 12.30 it was pouring with rain and I had decided not to go out; 20 minutes later the sun came out and it stopped raining, so I scrambled to get ready and rushed out to join my walking group. We had a lovely walk in brilliant sunshine (over 7000 steps), followed by coffee and delicious caramel sponge at our local charity HQ. Afterwards I went into their charity shop and bought a brand new mini-skirt for £3.50. It will look nice with thick tights, boots and a matching jumper. Just because I am in my late 70s doesn't mean I have to dress like an old lady!

Bad news on Monday evening while I was at the theatre - one of my younger sisters had a really bad fall at home. Luckily she was found by her carers on their morning visit who called an ambulance. Turned out she had broken her hip and also her neck; the hip was operated on yesterday and they are awaiting a second opinion on the neck fracture.

Her daughters have decided that she is not safe to live alone any longer, (she is prone to falling over), so will be looking for a care home in the next few weeks, hopefully nearer to family. She is also becoming more confused and forgerful, and had been going through tests for dementia. Visiting is difficult, as she lives 150 miles away, but my DD has said she will try and organise something if I wish to see her.

Not sure whether to try and get to the well-being cafe this afternoon, it depends on the weather. If not it will be an afternoon of reading. And I have a garden chair to put away should Northants get the forecast high winds.
Chicken satay stir-fry and rice for dinner tonight.

Take care in this stormy weather.

Urmstongran Wed 01-Nov-23 09:06:30

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s actually lovely and sunny! It wasn’t like this earlier though - we had torrential rain at 7am. I’ve stripped the bed and put it in the washer as I might be able to give the sheets a blow in the fresh air, always nice.

November already eh? x

EkwaNimitee Wed 01-Nov-23 09:07:06

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very wet Carlisle.

Yesterday lunchtime, I went for my covid jab. Hopefully there will be nothing worse than my currently sore arm as it was Pfizer. The last one was Moderna and I was unwell for 2 or 3 days. My jabber confirmed that you were more likely to get a worse reaction from the latter.

Today I have a few little jobs then I need to have an admin session on the Mac. Life seems to need a lot of admin these days. As it's likely to rain all day, I may even get started on my new book later.

I'm another who can have sleep problems. What has greatly helped me is the meditation app on my tablet. It has a sleep section. The breathing, relaxation and visualisation exercises get me off to sleep quickly and calm those racing thoughts. As for getting back to sleep in the middle of the night. one of its tips was gentle breathing and counting mentally down from 100 on your exhale. Usually works. If not, I may turn radio 4 on, it switches to the World Service from 1-5am and I find concentrating on some interesting, not usually political, talk soon makes me nod off again. Lavender oil on a tissue close by is also helpful.

Half-term is over up here, the children didn't have a bad week weather-wise. There'll be no outside fun today for those off this week I guess. Good luck to all of you getting the storm, I don't think we'll be badly affected here.

hollysteers Wed 01-Nov-23 09:08:46

Good morning and white rabbits from a brightening northwest coast.
DD and DS here. We had a lovely time last night. DD cooked a spag bol (or spag bog as I call it) and we had lots of interesting chat. Nice not to cook, but I cleared everything away. DS will tackle some little jobs waiting to be done. After the busy day, music club, shopping then evening fun, I have slept through a solid eight hours.

Hope you all have the very best day you can and I will read through later🌺

.

Blossoming Wed 01-Nov-23 09:11:34

Good morning Mick and all from cloudy Lancashire, currently 12°C.

Yesterday I managed to break 2 bones in my hand in a totally freak accident. Luckily it’s the hand I don’t use, so no problem keeping it immobilised. MrB is taking me out for a coastal drive today to see all the visiting geese on the salt marshes. I suspect he is trying to stop me from doing any more damage! We will call in to RSPB Marshside, which some Grans will be familiar with.

Have the best day you can 🌹

Sar53 Wed 01-Nov-23 09:18:36

Good morning from a very damp and dismal Essex coast.

I'm meeting up with Gingster and GG13 later for lunch. We haven't seen each other for a very long time so there will be lots of chatting.

First off I'm going into town with DH who has to visit the bank. I'm sure we will have coffee as well.

Have the best day you can and stay safe in the wind and rain xxx

dustyangel Wed 01-Nov-23 09:23:35

Good morning everyone from a dry algarve 18°.

I had a very disturbed night, DH’s lower legs kept giving out yesterday afternoon and he was also a bit confused but very insistent that he would be fine when he’d had a rest. He got worse early evening and eventually landed up in Faro emergency department.
A long wait of course but I think we were lucky with the timing as he was seen after about an hour or so. They were going to do tests overnight and advised me to come back home and he might be back this morning.

I eventually got home about 3.00am and woke up again before six.
It’s going to be a long day I think.

I’ll try to catch up with you all through the day.

Oh golly Dusty. I hope all is well.🌹

GrannySomerset Wed 01-Nov-23 09:32:39

No heating this morning so am waiting for a call to say when someone can come to look at the boiler which I thought was fixed last week. Not cold, fortunately, but could do without this buggeration - I would, just like a few weeks without domestic dramas!

Singing this afternoon if the expert comes this morning, otherwise will be hanging about all day. Local experts coming to collect the long case clock in the hall so it can be overhauled and out of the way next week when the new floor is laid. Clock was DH’s pride and joy and I was never allowed to touch it so it has not gone for the best part of three years. It will be really nice to hear it again. One way and another I am spending money as if it was going out of fashion!

Gwenisgreat Wed 01-Nov-23 09:48:39

Good morning all from drying up Harrogate
Had a wakeful night with my throat on Fire. When I took my Alendronic acid on Saturday it got stuck in my throat and I think it’s burnt my throat which has been getting steadily worse. I’ve spoken to the doc over the phone 📞 who thinks really it will get better on its own! I wish I was as optimistic! Did try to get manuka honey in a shop in Leeds but they didn’t have any. Will go into town shortly and try there. We did order a fridge freezer from JL which should be with us on Monday, hooray! Have cleared up the mess from the old one.
Have the best day possible folks

luluaugust Wed 01-Nov-23 09:48:54

Blossoming wave the word Osteoporosis past the Dr just in case. Not a club anyone wants to join..................

Good morning from BN3 which is just west of Brighton. I am at my youngest DD’s. She has Covid and is very poorly today. I did the Halloween round of neighbours with DGDs and a gaggle of children aged about 2 to 10. There were several ‘callers’ during the evening to whom I dispensed the treats DD had bought. All very polite but several were quite bedraggled as the rain had started about 6 and didn’t stop.

I got GDs to school this morning. Their school is just round the corner. DD WhatsApped me from her bedroom in the roof to tell me what to do about 8 year olds packed lunch. Fortunately the 4 year old was willing to have the roast chicken dinner that was on the school’s lunch menu for today.

The wind is already quite gusty here on the channel coast. I feel for NanKate’s GS and schoolmates on the Isle of Wight. I imagine all activities will have to be indoors. I was knocked off my feet by our campervan door blowing into me in the Needles car park a couple of years ago.

Sorry to hear of broken bones Blossoming and BlueSapphire’s sister 💐💐

Dusty, thinking of you and hoping for better news of your DH 💐

I better go and see if DD wants a hot drink and if anything needs doing. Otherwise I may relax and read my book. I’m tempted to go down to the beach to see the big waves but I will tidy up here first.y

Take care all who have, or will have, storm Ciaran.
