Good morning from soggy Somerset! Well there was ☔️ ☔️ and more ☔️ last night ! Can’t tell if it’s stopped now as it’s dark and the house is very soundproofed.
Easy drive down yesterday, it’s quite relaxing spending several hours driving alone with just Radio 4 and occasionally Classic FM for company .
I have a horrible feeling a walk is planned for this morning “Just a gentle one, Mum, only about 3 miles” 😱😱😱
I may be some time.
Wishing you all a pleasant day

Mizuna Wed 01-Nov-23 05:45:23

Good morning from a dark, wet Cornwall. The pic is my patio very early yesterday morning with the burgeoning light reflected in the mirrors. Today I'm off to my son's house to stay overnight and 'sit' my 13-year-old grandson while his dad is away photographing a convention at the Eden Project. My grandson is now bigger than me (and I'm tall) yet it seems no time since he was two and I helped my son as he learnt how to be a single dad. Apparently there's a cottage pie in the fridge to share and I have instructions to 'Cook lots of veg to go with it please mum.'

Good morning from a wet Torbay.

Welcome to the soggy South West, RosiesMaw, and good luck with the walk!
Your patio looks intriguing, Mizuna! Lovely to have time with your DGS.

Good news: DH arrived safely and to the local Torre station so I didn’t have to drive to Newton Abbot in the wet weather.
Bad news: we had an egg lobbed at our window. It made the same noise as the fizz bottle we had just opened but not as pleasant to experience!

It’s good to have time together again and we shall probably go to Wednesday Club.

Happy hump day! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

White rabbits 🐇🐇🐇🐇
Good morning from Bristol. Didn’t it rain overnight? I’m glad your trip was easy, RosiesMaw, and I hope that olddudders is safely back in Blighty.
I decided I didn’t want to freeze at tai chi, so walked the 25 minutes to Waitrose, did my shopping, the decided to walk back, instead of taking the bus, as it was very sunny.
The rest of the day was filled with this and that, a lot of hand sewing to finish the quilt, Spanish homework, etc.
I had a WhatsApp chat with DGS, reminiscing about his dad, who loved the chicken wings I was having for dinner. I don’t hear from him much, so it was nice to chat.
May today bring nothing but gentleness and ease to all. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩

Morning from S Hampshire, I could hear wind and rain in bed, my gunky eye needed sorting, hence the early hour.
Final sorting of garden yesterday, tulips and viola’s planted, I’m on call to pick up our granddaughter today when her exam has finished, ditto tomorrow.
Fizz definitely preferable to eggs Ash cheers🥂 to you both.
Safe journey to travellers over the next couple of days.

Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire.
It is the WI coffee morning today. Should be fun.
OH has a hospital appointment this afternoon which I’ll drive him to. Parking is so difficult so both of us need to go. I have a WI committee meeting at 6 pm but I’ll to ask someone to deputise as secretary in case I’m not back in time. If we’re home we’ll take the opportunity to watch the covid enquiry with B Johnson probably trying his best to wriggle out of the huge hole he dug for himself.
Have a good day.

Gala Wed 01-Nov-23 06:38:44

Good morning from a wet underfoot Sefton. At least it appears to have stopped raining.
Yet another disturbed night. I seem to have lost the ability to sleep longer than a couple of hours. Reading through recent posts this appears to be quite common. Is it an age thing? I'm getting quite paranoid lying in bed at night worrying about getting to sleep.
Zoom exercise class first thing then Pilates. Hope I have sufficient energy.
No nursery pick up for us this Wednesday as it's half term. OH off to a football match this evening so an early tea for us.... better not get too engrossed in a good book!
Take care out there those of you who may be affected by yet another nasty storm.

Susan56 Wed 01-Nov-23 06:41:17

Good morning from Shropshire.

We had a successful day at Cheshire Oaks yesterday. We didn’t manage to get to Liverpool but may go at the weekend.

An early start today.DD1 and SIL are working so we will drive over the border into North Wales to collect the grandchildren then drive to Staffordshire to spend the day with DD2, SIL and DGS1.

Glad all travellers arrived safely.

Take care and have the best day you can everyone🌺🦩

Good morning all from a still dark North Leicestershire. I think it's wet out there.

I have a fasting blood test at 8.40 and also need to be at the other side of the county by 10.00 having eaten! Not happening really is it. Hey ho.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-Nov-23 06:42:03

Good morning from a soggy South Downs, although yesterday was actually rather pleasant. The dog had his quarterly clip and always returns really pleased and exited with himself as if to say “look at me!” I purchased the JI2 for 3 very large amaryllis bulbs - so get those sorted some time.

Today, we are taking my sister to East Grinstead for the nurse to look at her dressing. It was actually booked for tomorrow, but sister changed it because of the pretty severe gales forecast 70+ winds which we don’t fancy travelling in.

The winds are due to start this evening and go on all night and tomorrow - which I hate and worry about the roof etc.

Spicy fish stew for supper

Peace and harmony to all.

grandMattie Wed 01-Nov-23 06:44:08

Gala, the last thin* you need is to spend the night worrying about not sleeping.
What I find helpful is to have some almost inaudible music, and just lie there wool gathering, planning the next day, or whatever. When you reach say 0500, you can give yourself permission to get . The best thing is that you are resting your body. Have a nap, no more than 30 minutes in the afternoon, and you’re fine. This has worked for me for the last twenty or so years.

karmalady Wed 01-Nov-23 06:55:05

Good morning from s somerset, braced and battoned here, bad wind and rain in the night, trees full of leave and soaking ground, not a good combination

I slept well last night, apart from getting up to shut some window vents and keep some whistling wind noise out

Pottering was busy and pleasant yesterday, hard to say what I did but very limited knitting and pottering is keeping the house nice

Today, a short run to recycling, just to take cardboard, I am not leaving cardboard out tonight. I am a weather buff and watching the weather intensely, this storm could well move a bit north and will be very damaging. Pressure on my weather station is already 991 and is likely to fall quickly to 950, which is a record for november. The wind will also change direction to a north westerly. Fingers crossed that the storm might, just might go down the channel. Very hard for the met office to make predictions right now

Have a good, safe day

Nannagarra Wed 01-Nov-23 07:07:01

Good morning from Sefton where it has been raining. All is mild and calm.
Not a great deal to report. Like others, we watched D. Cummings yesterday. The mood lightened with GGBO enjoyed with a take away of Chinese food.
What a pretty and inviting patio Mizuna. There’s lots of busynesss apparent in your posts; may you all find a smile today.

Gala Wed 01-Nov-23 07:08:22

Thank you grandMattie. I will try to follow your advice. It's the switching off of the racing mimd that's the hard part. I'm my own worst enemy always finding something to worrit at. And a nap in that mid-afternoon 'dip' instead of trying to work through it sounds a much better idea. Thank you.

Greyduster Wed 01-Nov-23 07:09:33

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Wet again in South Yorkshire at the moment. I spent some time in the top garden yesterday, tidying dead stuff away and the lawn felt like a sponge. I don’t know when we’ve ever had such a wet autumn. I’m sorry for those who’re battening down for the latest storm, but hope it blows itself out before it does too much damage. We had no trick or treaters last night. That’s a first. Writers group this afternoon and I have a book waiting for me at the library.
Glad olddudders made it home safely Ash. Enjoy your time together!
Have a good day folks.

Good morning from a damp Colchester. The calm before Storm Ciaran, which is forecast for overnight and tomorrow here.
Usual Wednesday morning coffee meetup in the city centre. I'll bring home some fresh bread and make a beef stew for tonight as DH will be home from his fishing trip.
Love to all 🦩 x

Liberty Wed 01-Nov-23 07:22:13

Good morning from a damp looking Suffolk after a lovely sunny day yesterday.

I missed the last storm which hit eastern England badly but DH sent me photos of flooded fields and damaged bridges. These were repaired in 5 days and are better than the original ones but farmers need access for their tractors. I think we may miss the worst of the coming storm and hope that other parts of the country are not too badly affected.

Off to my keep fit class in a couple of hours and then coffee and a chat up afterwards with a friend who goes. Between us we’ve missed 4 weeks so lots to catch up with. I feel I’m slotting easily into my usual routines which is good after my trip to India.

Thinking of those whose routines have had to be changed because of ill health of theirs or loved ones.

cornergran Wed 01-Nov-23 07:25:50

Mornings Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset will need wringing out soon. It’s very soggy indeed.

With luck we’ll meet with friends this morning, an easy journey for us, less so for them. There will be much chatting, coffee and lunch involved and a walk around a bygones museum with lots of ‘oh, I remember those’. Indoors fortunately. Then it will be head home and try to ignore underlying anxiety about the potential for damage from the storm. If wind speed is predicted accurately it will be lively here.

Hope Wednesday is kind to us all,

GrannyGravy13 Wed 01-Nov-23 07:26:58

Morning all

The wind is already blowing here in S E Essex and it’s very wet under foot, but currently not raining

Off to meet two GN friends for lunch and lots of chatting later.

Have a good day folks, cannot believe it’s November, the Christmas adverts have started on the TV 😱🙋‍♀️🦩

brook2704 Wed 01-Nov-23 07:29:49

Good morning everyone from a grey Inverness, rain forecast for later
Gorgeous patio mizuna I love the mirrors reflecting and enjoy the time with your DGS later
A busy day ahead, I’m off to the gym this morning and later collecting DGD from school as she’s asked to stay over.
Safe travels to all those out and about especially with the bad weather forecast
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

luluaugust Wed 01-Nov-23 07:31:06

Good morning it is looking very grey and wet. Hoping to go to a local tea room to meet a friend but I shall see what she wants to do as she has the longer walk. DDIL finally has an appointment to find out the way forward for her cancer treatment, it has been along wait for her.
Best wishes to all

RosesandLilac Wed 01-Nov-23 07:32:09

Good morning from the wet west Wales coast, clouds are scudding across the sky here.
Yesterday started with bathing the smelly dog, she wasn’t impressed at all. We had another lovely walk on the beach in the afternoon, the sunshine was warm . We really have been very lucky with the weather, sun every day bar one for the last 10 days.
Today a pub lunch I think. DH is taking the dog for a long walk.
The next 48 hours may be interesting if Storm Ciarán hits us here, the house overlooks the beach across the road……
Take care everyone 🌹

monk08 Wed 01-Nov-23 07:32:13

Good morning all from the Black country rain overnight but dry at the moment.
We didn't go to the castle in the end it is such a walk from car park and the rain was so heavy we decided it wouldn't be much fun walking round the castle soaked. The boys decided that they would like the soft play instead. After there we went for a meal then dropped them at their cousins for a sleepover.
Ironing and some housework today unless a better offer appears.
Mizuna your patio looks very magical along with your woodland I think I could believe in fairies 😃.
Keep safe out there those travelling enjoy your Wednesday whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.

Georgesgran Wed 01-Nov-23 07:34:26

Good morning from Durham. It rained most of yesterday and the same is forecast for the rest of the week - yuck!
I’m meeting a friend for coffee at 10am. She has RA and it’s getting worse after being quite stable for years. She’s also a breast cancer survivor, a lovely lady.
Then I’m taking Little Dog home, as I’m babysitting DGS2 this afternoon near Newcastle, but looks like we’ll just be playing indoors. On my way home, I’ll check on DD1’s house, as they’re away.
Best wishes to all. X
