The return of David Cameron

What a very clever move indeed to bring David Cameron back into the Cabinet. Tories all must be shaking in their boots with a General Election nigh and the shambolic government at present.

David Cameron was respected by a great many people and his return must give a much needed boost to Tory morale. The chap has a backbone.

It doesn't say much for the rest of the Tory MPs that none of them are fit for the FO.

Sounds as though Cleverly isn’t happy about being moved from the Foreign Office.

I have to say that I was surprised by this appointment.
I’m not very keen on Cameron and I’m certainly not keen on him being made a Lord in order to get him into the Cabinet. I think it’s quite underhand.

The Economist has an article headed.

“The return of one of Britain’s worst Prime Ministers” saying that he was in effect the root cause of everything wrong the U.K. is facing today -of which there is much - and has now been brought back to fix it!!!

Cameron held the referendum because so many Tories had defected to UKIP and he wanted to prove that it was a lost cause. He was wrong!
The way things are at the moment, I think it highly likely that the current party will split and the more right-wing members will form a new party.

Never mind Cameron, my MP has been made chair of the conservative party. To be fair this is probably good news for Labour, he really isnt very good.

My MP, too, Galaxy. But isn't he standing down at the next GE?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Nov-23 08:36:19

The more I think about it, the more I question Sunak’s judgement over the Cameron appointment.

It just seems wrong from every angle. Just looking at his record on foreign policy tells us that he was a failure, let alone all the other areas. You can bet your life that the media is now chasing up his record of known and possibly unknown scandal.

That is another car crash waiting to happen.

He wont have a seat because of the boundary review which is a bit different to stepping down grin I assumed they would parachute him in elsewhere.

Kandinsky Tue 14-Nov-23 08:44:23

Don’t think it really matters anymore who gets what job in the Tory party. Labour will win the next election.
I’ll be focusing on what they’re planning.

Sorry that was in answer to Maizie.

Sorry that was in answer to Maizie.

👍

His girlfriend was 'stepping down', too, yet I've seen her tipped as a rising tory star. She's also affected by the boundary changes. Another parachute job, I wonder...

Will probably help Sunak lose the GE with less damage than if Braverman were still in post. Good riddance to her.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Nov-23 10:25:54

What I do think is that the more right wing media support Braverman, and will almost certainly do their utmost to dig out dirt on Cameron and undermine Sunak.

The “Doberman” has been removed so hurrah 😄 to that and the “Bullingdon Boy” is reinstalled. I don’t suppose it could be much worse really that it has been🤨 …could it?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Nov-23 10:48:11

How about this idea?

Sunak has moved Cameron in, as he intends to step down soon and can then move Cameron in as a caretaker PM until the election?

Glorianny Tue 14-Nov-23 10:57:02

I don't think Cameron would take it on. To lose one election (referendum) might be considered unfortunate to lose two looks like carelessness. to paraphrase Oscar

Glorianny Tue 14-Nov-23 10:59:04

Anyway Cameron's got a nice seat in the Lords. Why would he go back to the Commons?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Nov-23 11:25:35

True - just a thought🙂

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Nov-23 11:28:30

Is he getting a ministers salary as well as a very lucrative ex-PMs payment?

toscalily Tue 14-Nov-23 11:38:58

"Richard Holden, the newly-appointed Conservative Party chair, told BBC Breakfast that Lord Cameron had returned "out of a sense of duty" and would bring experience to the role."

Where was his sense of duty when he left Downing Street with such haste after the referendum?

He’s not claiming the ex-PM payment whilst he’s a Minister.

annodomini Tue 14-Nov-23 12:06:33

Is he also taking his allowance for sitting in the Lords?

Glorianny Tue 14-Nov-23 12:33:19

Just thought I bet Tony and Cherie are fuming- Cameron a Lord!!!

nanna8 Tue 14-Nov-23 12:43:32

Hope they are fuming, nasty people.

Cameron did refer to himself as the future PM and not previous PM in an interview hmm
