What are the chances?

My poor DS arrived for lunch distraught. He'd left my birthday present on the bus. It's very wet here and he was juggling parcels and his umbrella. It was a named carrier bag containing a very expensive perfume that he'd been saving for specially.
Obviously, he's now contacted lost property but, realistically, what are the chances of a decent person finding it and handing it in?
I'm not so much bothered about missing out on the present as it was the thought that counted for me. However, he's very upset. Cross with himself. It was a big thing for him. Oh dear.
Fingers firmly crossed that someone does the decent thing. Secretly - not optimistic. sad

I fear that as the perfume is a 'consumable' someone will just keep it and chuck away the birthday card. Not something a nice person would do but...

I got out of my car once and found a pair of very expensive sunglasses lying in the gutter behind it. I wasn’t very far from the local police station so walked there only to find it wasn’t open for public enquiries so I had to phone the main HQ who took my details and said if they hadn’t had an enquiry within three weeks, I could do what I liked with them. It didn’t hear from them so I gave them to a charity shop.

I found a phone lying in the gutter. Phoned the first person in the contacts and had a very interesting conversation with someone who was convinced that I had stolen it! Sometimes trying to help out is a pain. Hope you recover your gift, but TBH it's not overly likely.

Given that there was a card addressed to ‘Mum’ the finder would have to be pretty hard hearted not to try to return it. I still have my fingers crossed Aveline. 🤞

Thanks LauraNorderr

Aww bless him. Like you say it’s the thought that counts and you only want him to feel better. I’d post it on Facebook or anywhere else you can think of. There’s many more honest people about than not . Fingers firmly crossed for you 🍀

If you know what it was- just buy another one and tell him the bus company found it.

That could be embarrassing though, Fleurpepper, if the bus company then finds it and rings him to say so. smile And of course the card would still be missing….

A belated Happy Birthday and I hope a Good Samaritan comes to the rescue. One did for me last week when I left my purse (with £50 cash and all my credit/debit cards within) in a supermarket trolley outside! There are good souls out there. x

Fleurpepper he's the one who's contacted the bus company. It would look a bit odd if I suddenly said it had turned up!
Lots of good stories from people here. Obviously there are decent folk around.

look on facebook pages for the location where the bus was bound, and interim ones.

I have, of course, done that. What has been helpful is my FB contacts have liked and shared my despairing post and I've been invited to join several useful local groups that I could not have found myself. The word is well and truly out and shared widely.
