I moved to the Nationwide after Barclays closed.
I have a debit card with them and earlier this year I noticed an odd payment on my weekly mini statement I have posted onto my mobile phone. On contacting the fraud department I queried this payment which was to a sports company I had never heard of. They agreed I had been hacked stopped my card, reimbursed me and 5 days later issued me with a new one.
DH suggested I only used it to take money from my account and use our credit card for other purchases. The NW said to start my new card I had to use it in a shop to initialise it, which I did just the once.
On checking my mini statement yesterday I saw two odd payments which I knew I hadn’t made. So back again to the fraud department who said the payments were to a US company which I had never heard of. The money was reimbursed to me by NW. I asked how anyone could have got my details when I had only used the card once in a shop and the rest in NW. I’m not sure I understood their answer but they have assured me my new card will not be linked to my old card as has happened here.
If you have weekly/monthly statements can I encourage you to check them regularly. Finally I was advised these scammers start with small amounts so that it is easy for you to miss the fraudulent payment.
