Do you like to be given flowers for the home as a birthday gift, anniversary etc or as a nice surprise? Would you buy yourself flowers? I ask because I would prefer a pot plant or chocolates

Flowers flowers flowers every time Really lifts the spirits
We put fresh flowers in our holiday let’s sometimes garden sometimes shops. On our reviews it is frequently commented upon how welcoming it makes them feel when they arrive. The only down side is I feel like second hand rose cos if there is life left in them I bring them up to the house

Always have flowers in the house - usually lilies in the lounge in Summer and I add fresh ones every week, weeding out those past their best.
Spring flowers in season and from November onwards I buy chrysanthemums (I know they’re considered naff) in shades of gold and brown for the lounge instead of the lilies.
I also have the odd plant, succulents and orchids here and there, plus bowls/baskets of hyacinths.
I’d prefer a giant bag of Co-op ready salted crisps to chocolate though. Another cheap date!

Flowers are my weekly extravagance as late DH bought them for nearly sixty years. Now I have to buy my own but hate a house without them. One biggish bunch in the sitting room, a smaller one in the kitchen and a little one in the hall, often last week’s recycled, and a constant joy.

I had a lovely bouquet from my son for my birthday, I didn’t spot a lily hiding in the middle !
It was only when I started wheezing coughing and sneezing that I traced the rogue lily !
Daughter removed it , I was fine with the rest of the flowers , but I do prefer them growing in the garden

I love flowers in the house, my children gave me some autumnal chrysanthemums today as we took them out to lunch, I occasionally buy them for myself. I kill any pot plants always have done and don’t like chocolate, so cut flowers please.

I have a vase of fresh flowers every week. I'm always happy to have more.

Or a pot plant.

Or chocolates.

I'm easily pleased grin

^ I bought a Christmas cactus for the bathroom but all the buds have dropped off☹️^.

Apparently once the flower buds start forming they don't like the position of the plant to be altered. I think they try to turn to the light and that breaks the connection between the flower bud and the plant. They'll flower again next year though and it'll give years of pleasure. I have a Christmas cactus I bought 40+ years ago (well, I doubt if it's the original but it's from the same plant) just before my DD was born. It obliges every year around about her birthday.

It is always a real treat to be given flowers, I love watching them open and eventually they can be thrown out; unlike pot plants which demand continuing care and house room. I don't know why I don't buy flowers for myself but I think it would spoil the treat.

I don't have too many joys in my life but the one thing I love is to buy myself a small bunch of flowers each week as it really lifts me spirits looking at the beautiful colours. I wish someone would buy me flowers for my birthday but agree pot plants do last longer. No chocolates for me.x

Not routinely but I enjoy them if I'm gifted them as a treat.

A few weeks ago a colleague sent me The Most Enormous bouquet to say thank you for conducting her mother's funeral. It was very unexpected, I was honoured to have been asked. I enjoyed every minute of the three weeks they lasted. 💐

I always have flowers in the house. I have a delivery every two weeks and my DD buys me a monthly subscription for my birthday every month.

Greyduster Sun 26-Nov-23 18:27:13

I love flowers in the house, either bought, or cut from the garden. DH always bought flowers for birthdays and anniversaries or for no reason other than he liked them too. Every few weeks I buy both red and white roses to keep beside his photograph. They last well, make me happy and honour his memory.

I love Fresias and any flowers are most welcome 🤗

Yes I buy flowers for the lounge and the hall. I love flowers as a present and try to make them last.

For decades I had a low arrangement delivered for my dining table once a fortnight...then the lovely florist gave up her business and there was no one local to buy from so I get them from Freddies Flowers now .Lovely seasonal ,unusual selections that last well for the 2 weeks .I still buy flowers sometimes if I see some I like when shopping and I have plants bought by my daughter with instructions on watering as I always kill them eventually .I do have 2 in my sitting room that are over 2 yers old and I'm very proud of them and myself

I always have flowers in the house (roses) and often my daughter brings me some too.
I much prefer them to pot plants.

Years ago I made a New yYear's resolution to always have flowers in the hall. It's the only New Year's Resolution I have kept. I buy myself some every week for the hall and the kitchen.

I love cut flowers from the garden. When they aren’t available I buy every week. Not huge expensive bouquets but a bunch of ordinary relatively inexpensive. I like tulips, love the way they fall
I really appreciate flowers sent on special occasions
Flowers brighten the house

Gosh. I’m amazed at this response and how many people buy flowers for the house.
Never occurs to me and I don’t much notice them in other people’s houses. If given them it’s always an inconvenient moment and I stick them in the laundry room and have been known to forget about them…
Not that I particularly want chocolates either.

SachaMac Sun 26-Nov-23 21:20:19

I love flowers, I treat myself to a nice little bunch most weeks & I pick whatever I can from the garden in the spring. I’ve had quite a few orchids as a gift which are lovely but I can’t seem to keep them for very long.

Redhead56 Sun 26-Nov-23 21:23:38

I love flowers but I never buy them special times Easter Christmas etc when the price doubles. I buy them weekly Aldi flowers last well usually. I have bought flowers by post in the past for family but wasn’t impressed.
Not mad on chocolate but at Christmas time I do like liquors.I make chocolate truffles for my DH he loves them.

Garden flowers stay in the garden - I'm out there most of the time so that is where I enjoy them most.

I do like flowers indoors occasionally and buy a bunch every now and then. I'd much rather have a few stems than a big bouquet and always try to 'buy British'. Dark red gladioli are my favourite.

Mollygo Sun 26-Nov-23 21:34:57

I love to have flowers in the house, whether given or bought -usually from Lidl and especially Alstromeria -they last so long.
A useful tip from Bloom and Wild has improved my cut flower arranging too.

Scapa1 Sun 26-Nov-23 21:43:37

I love fresh flowers in the house. I always have one vase and I am quite happy to buy them for myself. They don’t have to be a fancy bunch anything will do.

crazyH Sun 26-Nov-23 21:49:14

I buy fresh flowers for the entrance hall, every 7-10 days. Wish I could afford to have them all over the house, like Elton John
