Do you like to be given flowers for the home as a birthday gift, anniversary etc or as a nice surprise? Would you buy yourself flowers? I ask because I would prefer a pot plant or chocolates

I like receiving them (usually Mother's Day or birthday from my sons) but I buy cheap bunches from Asda every so often.

Just a £6 bunch from Asda or Tesco

Yes, I love fresh flowers in my home.
Daffs and tulips in Spring, Roses in Summer and especially Poinsettias and Amaryllis at Christmastime.
I often buy them for myself.

I always have flowers nowadays. Actually it's only since my mother died that I regularly started having them. She had a rose bowl which I always filled in her memory (I posted a picture on Gransnet). She always had a tall bouquet standing by the hearth as she spent most of her time in the latter years sitting in the lounge, looking at them.

Usually I buy a cheap bunch of roses or tulips for myself and complement them with some greenery from the garden

But at the moment I have 5 bunches around the house because it was my birthday last week. All autumnal colours - everyone was thoughtful enough not to give me Christmas-themed ones!

I have fresh flowers at least once a week, and being sent flowers is one of my favourite things.

I’ve never seen the point in flowers. They just sit there dying day by day then you have to throw them out. I hate being bought them.

Always have fresh flowers in my home.So does my daughter and my mother always did. When we go away on holiday,i always have flowers in a vase when i arrive home from daughter, and i do the same for her. At Christmas time,i treat myself to a special bunch.

Love them. Buy them every week. Want loads at my funeral. Wouldn't like a pot plant or chocolates. My late sister-in-law hated flowers in the house, said flowers were for funerals hmm

I love having flowers in a vase in the hallway. I’ve got some lovely miniature white roses in there at present. A friend passed them to me 10 days ago and they still look lovely. Later this week when I need to throw them out I’ll buy a bunch from Sainsbury’s.

A useful tip from Bloom and Wild has improved my cut flower arranging too

No I don't. They Don last long and I prefer them still alive in the garden and countryside.

I have asked for just one posy from my son and his family on my coffin Missiseff, and for others to donate to an animal charity instead of buying flowers. I hate to see heaps of flowers decaying on a grave and think of what those very transient tributes cost. I would prefer the money to do some good.

I like flowers and house plants.

I tend to buy flowers more between Spring and Autumn. I love daffodils in the Spring. My favourite cut flowers are peonies. I grow them in the garden but never cut them. I buy them when I see them in the supermarket. It is true that they last longer on the plant than in a vase.

I buy carnations quite a bit as they last for at least two weeks in a vase and they are reasonably cheap.

I have about four orchid plants that have been bought for me. They flowered for a few years but have not flowered now for about 18 months. I am on the verge of chucking them out. The leaves look very healthy but no signs of flowers. I didn't cut the green flower stems off when the last lot of flowers died. However, the stems did go brown eventually so I did cut them off then.

My favourite vases are wider at the
neck so the flowers droop out to the sides. I used to try arranging with oasis, but B&W suggested making a grid using sellotape strips across the top of the vase.
Then I arrange the flowers as I like and they stay in place. Easy to add extra water, easy to remove and re trim stalks, or remove any dead stuff. It works for me.

I buy myself flowers weekly without fail.

I love flowers and always like to have at least one vase of them in the house. We recently moved house and now have a long hall - our previous home had a small lobby only - and it gives me great pleasure to have a vase of flowers in the hall as it looks so cheerful to enter the house and see them. I recently bought a lovely, colourful Poole Pottery vase in a charity shop and it is perfect for the hall. From January onwards, l treat myself to a bunch of daffodils each week. It is the most gloomy time of the year and they are a sign that better things are on their way.

I'm amazed by how many of you actually buy flowers for yourselves. Whilst I'm happy to receive them as a gift, I think they are a bit of a waste. The only time I buy them is in February when the first daffs are in the supermarket - just to celebrate the onset of Spring!
I would not buy imported flowers, that is so wrong.
I cut flowers from my garden in Summer when they are plentiful, but otherwise happy to have silk or dried flowers around the house.

Yes, always have flowers here in the lounge. Currently some very beautiful lilies which are opening out at their own pace. Lovely.....

Yes, I like flowers in the house, and as they have become so expensive, it is some years since I stopped buying them for our home.

So I like being given flowers. And buy them for those I know will appreciate them, but not for myself.

I like having cut flowers in the home but it depends on their water foot print, I feel too guilty otherwise. However, it is very nice to receive them from friend’s gardens.
