Good afternoon and A Happy New year one and all. It’s been a bright sunny day here.
I am currently sitting chilling on my sofa and I am pooped. The family came over to our holiday lodge overnight. It was lovely if rather hectic. I’d forgotten how tiring it can be with small children. The 2 year old is not as easy a child as her big brother was/is! This morning we went for brunch on another park site just down the road. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The family headed home about 1. I sat and had a coffee with a drop of Baileys in then we went for a walk for some much needed fresh air. Looking forward to our evening meal we’re having salmon en croute and dauphinois potatoes I think Grandad dinosaur can cook tonight. I am now heartily sick of meals, food etc and after today my body will be crying out for simple food. So I’ll leave a box of mince pies and some Indian party snacks for anyone.

Afternoon kitcheners, I hope you’ve all had a gentle day, either recovering one way or another, socialising or sorting out your home.
Mixed fortunes there dusty hope your heal gets better soon and your wm pumps out.
Glimpses of sun this morning, then drizzle, now rain, it got dark very early. We’re off out later meeting my son and his partner in a micro brewery bar that does food, it’s my son’s birthday tomorrow, so his choice.
After that, as you say Grandmadinosaur* we’re back to simpler food, we’ve got a very small amount of Christmas cheese left, everything else has been eaten or frozen down.

We stayed up for the bells last night, watching Rick Astley. He’s such a nice guy. Then a toast to the New Year in Kentish ‘champagne’ and off to bed.

I woke to sunshine today, you know, that yellow stuff! ☀️ I moithered about how to fill my day and decided taking down all the Christmas stuff was just the job. That’s been done (albeit with patches of paint removed from a wall when the removable sticky pads I used proved to be anything but. 😳 Time to get out the Tippex!) It’s all packed away now, bar one item - there’s always that one thing that gets missed, isn’t there?

Although it’s a bank holiday in Scotland tomorrow my cleaner is coming, which also partly nudged me into making the place tidy again. I’ve got the dentist on Thursday, oh the joys, but also a New Year concert to go to one evening.

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone. Sue my cleaner came on Boxing Day! It’s not a bank holiday here and I was going to tell her not to come but I’m so glad I didn’t. We gave her the same money and a small Christmas box for shorter hours but it has made a world of difference to me this last week.

We’ve enjoyed a lovely afternoon with family this first day of January. Home now to clean bedding, pj’s and a mug of tea. I didn’t realise 2014 was a Leap Year!

Evening everyone! Hi pantglas!
We went out to a house just around the corner for New Year drinks at 12, with lots of lovely nibbles. I took potatoes in blankets - a new recipe this year, just small new potatoes with a bit of sage and seasoning, wrapped in smoked streaky bacon and baked in the oven. A hit!
I came home and fell asleep for a couple of hours ( so easy!) and we have been reading. It’s ham (the last!), egg and oven chips tonight.
For those with health problems, I wish you a very healthy new year!
We are off to the pantomime tomorrow with DGC - it’s a tiny theatre, so everyone is at risk when the water pistols come out.

Good evening everyone. So good to see a busy happy kitchen. I have been for a walk to pay my respects to the spirit of the river, I know it’s a RomanoCeltic myth but it’s one I rather like. The river plays a large part in my health and well being. Have a lovely evening and a restful night x

Really enjoyed watching the firework & drones display from London on TV, as we raised a toast to the new year.
I hope that 2024 is kind to us all.
Earlier last evening, not sure what to watch, we came across Andre Rieu, new year's eve, from Hanover & from Vienna, (2 out of 3 separate programmes), it took us a while to realise that they were from 2003 & 2001.! Still enjoyed it.

Good evening Kitcheners. I had a lovely meal at my aunt and uncle's house and was thoroughly spoiled. They are off to Spain at the weekend and I'll miss them. Later, the boys video called me to say happy new year and that was lovely. I've just put lentil soup in the slow cooker and it's bubbling away. It's for tomorrow as dgs1 is coming for a sleepover and dgs2 is coming for a couple of hours. I'm looking forward to both

I like the sound of potatoes in blankets and look forward to giving them a try!
I wonder if I am alone in looking forward to "normal service being resumed" ? No more clearly pre-recorded "Christmas specials" on TV will be a start.
I had a lovely Christmas, was happy enough with Rosie and a bottle of champagne for New Year, but actually will be even happier when my normal activities resume next week.
(And if I don't hear the words Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for another 11 1/2 months that's soon enough for me!)

MrsHat I tested negative but DH was positive 😞 which was a disappointment… it’s his day 16 too.

We’ve been reading that sometimes CEV people who have had antivirals continue to test positive but aren’t infectious.

The strange thing is he has recovered with no cough and mine is awful!

OH, younger son and I have just watched the first two episodes of the Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock. We’d forgotten how good they were.
OH and I had lunch at our favourite restaurant today. We had a delicious meal. Younger son stayed at home and got everything washed and packed for his return to London tomorrow.

Good afternoon kitcheners. Ooft. It's been a hard shift with both boys this afternoon. Dgs2 was particularly moany and dgs1 has reached the age of arguing back 😊. We all survived. Dgs2 has gone home with his mum and dad and dgs1 is watching a cartoon while I have a cuppa. Then I'll sort his dinner. He wants noodles. I'm having steak pie and mashed potatoes. The boys are much more amenable when apart! I hope no-one is suffering too much from the next storm. Have a good evening Kitcheners

Hello all, today hasn’t turned out quite as planned. The weather has been foul all day and my balance has been playing up. I fell over in the hallway while reaching for something and it was in a very awkward spot. It took me a good 10 minutes to get back on my feet and I now have a lovely bruise on my backside and arm and my right hand is hurting. So no walk today. MrB needs to go out later to collect his brother in law from the hospital, we will have something from the freezer for dinner and I think I will be ready for my bed after that.

Llamas99 the history of Roman Britain is an interest of mine, and they had a strong presence in this area. The river in my photo, which I live beside, is the Ribble and was called Belisama by the Romans. Belisama was the Celtic goddess of lakes and rivers, worshipped in Gaul. The Romans were quite happy to adopt local deities. She can be quite an angry goddess at times so it does no harm to pay my respects now and then . I haven’t gone as far as offering her a libation of wine though, the guys in the boatyard would think I’d lost my marbles!

I’ve started putting the Christmas decorations away and DH has taken down the outside lights, we’re about half way through everything that needs doing. It’s taking ages as I like to clean as I go along - a rare event in this house

Good evening Kitcheners.The wind has been terrible in this area.My DS2 had to come home from work as his neighbour had a tree go through the side of the house.DS’s house is ok but ,his neighbour will be unable to live in his house.DGs 4 was very upset the noise must have been terrible.

We are still coughing but feeling much better thank goodness.

Hi kitcheners, how interesting Blossoming thank you.
Our meal out last night was burgers, of all permutations, with fries, all of which were lovely, messy and original. It was lovely we were asked by my son and his partner, good to see them and today he is a sort of grown up 33 🙂.
Boy was it windy today, wet too, I’m glad I nipped to the village early, then hatches were battened. MrJ is at bowls, back to routines, except quiz is tomorrow, not Monday.
Hope your grandson is settled Grandmabatty.

Hello kitcheners. It’s been a foul day weather wise here too.

We packed up our stuff from our lodge this morning and whilst doing that I watched Rafa Nadal in his comeback match. He looked very fit and a reminder of how much he’s missed on the tennis circuit. We were going to stop off in Beverley on our way home and have a look in the sales. With the awful weather we decided not to bother. This afternoon I’ve been having a tidy up of the fridge seeing what needs to go in the freezer or thrown out etc and this evening putting up new calendars and transferring birthdays etc in to my new diary.
