Paw experienced so many sorts of ill health from UC from his teens which morphed into PSCin his 40’s ultimately necessitating a liver transplant without which he would not have seen his 50th birthday but also -whether or not as a result of the punishing drugs regime which followed - osteoporosis, an aortic aneurysm which meant open heart surgery, Lymphoma and a bowel resection, TIAs , blood disorders, weekly blood transfusions, and finally organ failure after kidney disease and sepsis 20 years after the transplant.
We used to joke that he had been in every department of the Royal Free except Gynaecology- but it did give us both exposure to a wide variety of disciplines. We also got to know various hospitals big and small around the country!
I’m glad that our experience of Paws episode was helpful, I hasten to add it was not a diagnosis (!) but a suggestion based on what happened to Paw

H all are you hiding behind the furniture, or gadding about at Christmas doings (she said checking deodorant is on)?
Hair trim today, I’m blessed with thick hair, but was looking rather Boris like, all sorted and a lighter head. Followed by microsuction of ears, again, second time this year, I now get a discount, really.
Presents have moved, from under the bed, tomorrow we WILL start wrapping, except I’m out for lunch, must be done by Friday, before the grandchildren stay.
My daughter has made a decision, with Imogen on which drug to try for her seizures, 🤞 it all goes well.

‘Evening All’.

A busy but wonderfully uplifting day here. First thing this morning Himself and I scooted over to the infant school to see L’il Miss (6) in her nativity. As I sat there, holding the hand of my very darling man I admit a tear slid down my cheek.

Home for a mug of restorative tea then I crossed the road to get a train into Manchester Oxford Road station where I met up with our Yorkshire Lass. We wandered to Manchester Art Gallery on Whitworth Street and spent a very pleasurable couple of hours there. We love it there. It’s smallness makes it intimate and friendly.

Cultured out we had lunch in an Italian restaurant. She got the train home with me as she’s decided to stay the night and of course her dad was delighted to spend time with his ‘big girl’.

A day for the memory box indeed.

After a good night's sleep, I felt much better today. I still have a cold but it is receding. I visited mum after lunch. She was quiet and tired. Then I met up with a couple of friends for afternoon tea. It was lovely! I'm in my jammies now and have been watching A Ghost Story for Christmas on Talking Pictures. The cards are finally written and will be posted tomorrow. All in all, a pleasant day. Have a good evening Kitcheners

I enjoyed a couple of classes at the gym then picked up DGD from school. She’s just gone through to bed now after a lovely soak in the bath with one of her glittery bath bombs, she smells lovely. She’s so different to her brother who supposedly has a wash without even getting wet.. The workmen are getting on well with the new en-suite, the plumber and electrician were here today and I think the tiler will arrive tomorrow.

DGD has just informed me it’s Christmas jumper day at school tomorrow and I’ve only got her school uniform here 🤦‍♀️

Too many days have passed for me to catch up on GNetters doings but suffice to say, you’re a busy lot! for those with illnesses and other buggerations and I hope the Christmas plans are all going well.

It’s been a trying week so far with our flooded house. No one has acted with much haste and we are no further forward than on Sunday. A ‘drying’ company was appointed by insurers on Monday then cancelled, unbeknownst to me. I’ve spent three days mainly doing online chats and making phone calls.

Finally this evening, two nice chaps seem to have come up with a plan. A different drying company has been appointed to ‘stabilise’ the house and 🤞🤞🤞they will make contact tomorrow. They will also pay a sum of money into our bank account to cover our alternative accommodation, which is a glamorous Travelodge, until the end of December. It’s convenient, comfy enough, clean and the staff are nice.

We’ve cleaned up what we could of the house, removed some items to the garage such as soaking wet small electrical items and sodden furnishing such as bean bags. We really do need the carpets removed and drying to take place now before anything else can improve.

How I wish for a boring life. I feel like a lost sheep.

I’d popped in hoping for news of you sued and there you are. I am sorry there has been a delay, although once working the process sounds much like the one we worked through in a much less damaged home. We were able to stay in ours alongside the huge and hugely noisy dehumidifiers. Wishing you well, not good timing for sure.

If covid has done one thing for me it seems to have cured my insomnia although a more pleasant way would have been preferred eyes are closing so I’ll wish you all a good night.

Good evening dear Kitcheners, I have had a busy day, MrB took me to collect my prescription and then shopping. I managed well and have walked quite a long way. The shops were not as busy as I’d expected either. I am very sleepy now, feeling good otherwise.

Hello lovely ladies. I had my difficult cataract removed late on Thursday. Unfortunately the consultant punctured my eye causing jelly to appear from the back of the eye. The operation took over an hour and I was monitored in hospital for two days. Recovery is expected to be good in about a month. It was done in a London hospital and they have so many senior consultants. The service has been excellent.

So sorry to hear that CatteryGirl, I hope it heals quickly.

Thank you blossoming. I would have gone blind without this op. No regrets and already seeing improvement in sight. Just uncomfortable medication for a month and am happy to put up with that. Lovely son will cook Christmas dinner. I feel blessed.

SueD my heart goes out to you. Our friends had a major flood in spring from the top floor of a 3 storey house, which brought down ceilings etc. They moved back in last week. Like you, this is a year they will remember.

Just lost a long post, it seems to be happening more, first time for me though for some time. SueD commiserations on your house saga, what an awful thing to happen.
I hope it gets sorted entirely to your satisfaction and fully funded and compensated.
Soop I hope your H’s poor head is soon less sore and I hope Grandmabatty soon feels better.
I fear you pick all these ailments from you DGS’.

I had my friend round yesterday for coffee and mince pies.
All she wanted was a cup of weak tea.
She was very down and upset.
It is the first anniversary of her H’s sudden death next week.
I had to look at lots of photographs of him and them together.
Her AC both live away, one 2 hours , one 4 hours distance.
She is going to her D’s for Christmas but I can’t decide whether to alert her D as to her state of mind.
She is a friend of my own D.
I will give it a few days to decide.

Damp and miserable again here today , Sainsbury’s delivery due very shortly so I must get my skates on as I haven’t had breakfast yet.

I am behind with all the latest happenings in our kitchen. A busy time right now. Mr Soop Had appointment with audiology yesterday afternoon. Guess what? He needs a hearing aid. I would never have guessed.

Yesterday he awoke with a swollen left ankle and foot. Today it is worse. No GP on duty but he may be contacted by phone later. Maw, as he suffers with bad circulation, I am right in thinking that he needs reassurance?

I have a wardrobe that needs immediate attention. Most skirts no longer fit over the hernia. Most pairs of trousers, ditto. I tried on a plaid skirt and Mr Soop had a hell of a job getting it off. The hernia made it difficult, nigh impossible to pull it down or over my head.

I may be gone for some time this afternoon. The Red Cross shop is in for a treat. So...here goes...

We dropped DGD off at school first thing and then I went to the gym for a swim and a relax in the jacuzzi. Later I met my friend and we enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch at a local hotel. We sat most of the afternoon chatting and putting the world to rights. I’m not fit for much else this evening except relaxing on the sofa ..The workmen here have been busy all day, the new bathroom is taking shape and looking good - will post pictures when it’s done

Hi kitcheners, MrJ has earned an extra big kiss today, he’s wrapped 20 odd presents beautifully, then dropped me to Winchester for lunch with friends. A while later he picked me up, now he’s at bowls while I write labels, I’m having to watch my writing.
I can’t imagine how dreadful that is for you both SueDonim, I just wish you a little more efficiency from people and a swift drying out.

I'm meant to be decorating the tree this afternoon, but I'm currently sitting here w/ big plans & no energy, lol. 🌲

I have had some lovely news about DD2 (the theatre designer) who started studying psychotherapy back in the pandemic, has completed and passed her course and practical placements - and is now a qualified counsellor!
She said that the closing of all the theatres made her realise she could do with a second string to her bow and perhaps a more family friendly career.
She is still working in the theatre, currently on a play for the Royal Exchange in Manchester but so often she has to work outside London, even abroad and it isn’t good for their little boy to have Mummy away from home.
However this is an exciting new direction and I am thrilled for her.
And TBH she is incredibly empathetic and the person I would go to in a crisis, I think she will be excellent (but of course I am biased)
