Having to enter my year of birth on a web site and feeling the lactic acid build in your hand as you keep scrolling back and back or hearing a song a thinking that must be a new one I don't remember it, it must be after my "time" , yes it was but it is from the 90s which is 30 years ago ..how is that possible aren't the 70s only 30 years ago 🤔

Fearing that the Christmas decs may have to stay up all year rather than going to the bother of squeezing the whole lot back in the attic!

I don’t like mirrors!
I used to go through my house like a dose of salts, now it’s a case of doing what I can manage each day.

All these aches and pains which I never used to have. Especially when you get up in the morning. Plus I just looked at my neck and it is getting those nasty crinkles. Yuk yuk and double yuk.

Being in A&E recently and having a CT scan and X ray due to my advanced years. Yes neck very yuk

A form (recently seen) set out with boxes alongside requesting age, a bit like this

20-35 []
36-40. []
41-55. []
56-65. []
OTHER

Obviously now an OTHER!

Not being able to sit down on the floor/ground because getting back up is so awkward

Struggling to shake off a virus for three weeks and the extreme tiredness when it finally goes.

At least my doctor says “at our age”

Running after children makes me feel old... Their energy seems endless

Seeing myself in photos. I've never been photogenic, but it depressed me now.

Being told by a doctor that a suspect mole on my thigh was an age spot. And age ranges for skin products - they don’t seem to go over 60!! Do they assume we have given up the ghost?? They should see my dressing table

I was born in the 1960s and houses of that era are called post war. I was just about coming to terms with this when I heard a news item about the declining birth rate and it referred to the high post war birth rate reaching its peak in the 1960s. My year of birth, 1964 (l was born in December of that year) was particularly cited. And yes to the scrolling further and further back on official forms to the year of my birth. Even worse when you accidentally stop it in the wrong place and have to start all over again.

Yesterday I had a delivery containing alcohol and the delivery man had to verify my date of birth. As he scrolled back on his machine he said “I’ve never had to scroll back that far before!”

MillieBoris, I agree. So many bloody age spots! Saw a dermatologist recently and was happy to hear none were cancerous. All 'age related'!! She did use a cryotherapy tool to burn a few off my face, but it's so depressing.

I've had word of three deaths of friends in the last couple of weeks, all about my own age. And others are cognitively challenged. Time is running out.
I don't feel old in myself, health still pretty good really. But I do find myself thinking about past times a lot.

How do you think I feel? Two of my children are older than you!

silverlining48 Mon 18-Dec-23 12:56:32

Oh yes all that scrolling, quite depressing really, especially as I zoom pass 1964 and remember seeing the Stones and the Beatles that year and I started work in 1963 when you were but a twinkle musicgirl.

silverlining48 Mon 18-Dec-23 12:57:48

Romola sorry about your friends flowers

Trying anything on in our local M&S. The changing rooms have all round mirrors so there is no escape from seeing my body as it actually is.

Oh yes, dressing rooms in general remind us all of the truth!

I also think about past times a lot, particularly at this time of year when I think of my mother who died in November a few years ago.
My husband's three best friend are dead now (though one died before he was 40) and I think he feels a bit marooned since the last death about five years ago. His old friends from work are also dying and because he's not very sociable he's not really making new friends now.

Me too, I look so faded and don't look good even when I smile!

Yes our address book is depressing so many names crossed out!

I can't bring myself to cross people out when they die.
